Most people would stay in their countries in both countries most of the time.
and it is really stupid question. You constantly create shit for Russia and then come and say "See Russia is a bad country!"

I have crossed a lot of borders in times long ago. It is very, very obvious what borders are meant to keep people out and what borders are meant to keep people in. First world borders are screening for illegal immigrants, you look first world, they don't look at you except for agricultural reasons. (Nations such as the US and Australia are strict on things like food, we usually get sent to agricultural inspection, but they run the bags through the x-ray and only look at the bags containing organics of reasonable density. This is entirely different from the strictness of immigration control. Expect such things in any nation without neighbors with a similar climate.) Third world, they'll be looking at details, but with an eye to finding some deficiency to use to get a bribe out of you. Second world--much more document inspection, much more luggage inspection.

Why not? It's always been a federation of "republics", each of which has its own identity. There's no particular reason why any of them must forever be ruled from Moscow; Many would love self-rule, if that didn't imply getting crushed by the Russian army.

Take away that army, or make it an object of ridicule rather than of fear, and fracture of the Russian Federation seems not a lot less unlikely than was the fracturing of the old Soviet Union.

Indeed, it is fear of that consequence that is a major reason why Putin started this two week Special Military Operation in the first place. The fall of Kiev in mid-March of 2022 was intended to send a stark message that even a region as large and as autonomous as Ukraine could not hope to stand up against Russian irredentism.

The continuing independence of Kyiv in 2026 is, of course, sending the exact opposite message. Regional populations are now thinking "We dared not declare independence, because if we did, Moscow would send in the tanks. But all of Moscow's tanks are now twisted and blackened wrecks scattered across the Donbas, so..."
