Lawyers for Capital One on Friday asked a federal judge to dismiss a lawsuit brought by President Trump’s trust over its closing of Trump Organization-affiliated accounts years ago, saying it did so only after money laundering concerns were flagged by experts.

While attorneys for the Trump Organization, led by Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, have alleged Capital One closed more than 300 Trump-linked accounts in 2021 over politics, lawyers for the defendants wrote in a Friday court filing that the financial institution closed the accounts “for anti-money laundering” reasons.

“The closures were the result of months of analysis and a careful review by Capital One’s [anti-money laundering] team in accordance with bank policies and regulatory guidance,” added the 23-page motion, filed in federal court in the Southern District of Florida.

“Capital One never publicized the termination decision nor its confidential internal process giving rise to the closure, and it permitted Plaintiffs several months (and granted several extensions) to find new banking services, which they did,” the filing continued.

Trump administration to pay German firm to halt US wind projects

The RWE payout is the latest in a string of deals cancelling wind energy projects, a power source long derided by Trump.

German energy company RWE has said it will abandon its offshore wind projects in the US after reaching a $1.2bn (£892m) payout deal with President Donald Trump's Department of the Interior (DoI).

RWE said that it will now reinvest the sum into conventional gas projects, including $900m (£669m) in a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminal project in Louisiana.

"After careful consideration, it was determined there is no path forward to permit these projects in the US for the foreseeable future," the company said in a statement.

Trump has derided wind power for years and often uses his rally speeches to rail against "ugly" turbines.

So, from what I've been able to glean, Trump holds a personal grudge against wind farms because he bought a golf course in the UK and didn't want the ocean views "ruined" by wind farms.

I have a sister who could match Trump's pettiness, but at least she's batshit crazy and isn't getting god knows how much money from the fossil fuel industry.

I have to say it because it's obligatory: if this were any other POTUS, it would be a huge scandal. Now, it won't stay in the news cycle for more than 36 hours or so.

So, from what I've been able to glean, Trump holds a personal grudge against wind farms because he bought a golf course in the UK and didn't want the ocean views "ruined" by wind farms.

I got a chuckle out of Trumpo's rant about Abdul El-Sayed in Vegas: "He's a man of hate." This, out of the most abusive mouth in American politics. Later, I watched Nicole Wallace's show. She showed another clip from Vegas and asked Elizabeth Warren to comment. In the clip, Trump says of El-Sayed: "He's full of shit." Neither woman commented on the crude language. This, surely, is a measure of how Trump has debased the country, and how much he absolutely disrespects his office.
Even ten years ago, hearing this from a President would have touched off a media storm. Now, we just expect it of him. I think of all the churchy, country club Repubs I know (my family tree is crawling with 'em), and how I've heard them disdainfully comment on how liberals have degraded the moral standards of the nation. Their hero is this foul-mouthed con man and serial liar. I saw one proper lady in this town proudly wearing an "I'm Voting for the Felon" shirt, back in '24. This is a cancer in the country, and it will require repeated surgeries to root it out -- if it can be rooted out.
