When I was reading on WWII the first tie I read the casualty estimates on the eastern front it was staggering.
Russia vs Germany was a war of attrition. Hitler thought it would be easy. The Germans never developed effective supply chains and transport.
Part of the success of the Russians was aid from Canada and USA over the North Atlantic.
Including trains.
I’d have to fact check, I believe trains were crucial in the relief at Stalingrad.
The Germans had to contend with the Allies in North Africa, Italy, and finally the invasion of Europe. Stalin pushed for an invasion to take pressure off Russia.
There were several factors at play in Russia. Russia developed relatively simple rugged tanks easy to maintain in the field. Germans developed a series of bigger, heavier, and more complicated tanks. Maintenance and manufacturing problems.
Hitler wasted time and many on many development projects that never went anywhere. They never had a mass produced truck like the American two and a half ton truck.
In Europe the ‘Red Ball Express’ running from the beach in France to the front.
Some thought Germany last the war at Dunkirk, even post war German officers. The bulk of the British army escaped. Plus Goering’s failure to break England. One of Hitler’s bluders was switching from attack British aviation and military infrastructure to terror bombing of the Brits.
Hitler invaded Russia with England standing, a great blunder. The Germans were not prepared for long term war in Russia, and not prepared for winter.
Hitler thought he was smarted than the military leaders. Putin and Trump have the same failing.
At the end Germany had no human sorcerers left and no war production. British and American bombing.
So the idea that Russia single handedly defeated Germany is a fantasy. Same fantasy as Trump discrediting the Allies in WWII claiming we did it by ourselves.
Both the Germans and Japanese could not match the prediction capacity of the Americans and Canadians.
WWII success was group team effort.
Australian War Material Production in WWII
Yes — while Australia began WWII relying heavily on imports from the UK and US, it expanded its industrial base during the war and manufactured a wide range of war materials, including weapons, ammunition, ship components, and other supplies.
It was not a Russian war, it was a world war.
And again Stalin had made a non aggression pact with Hitler in exchange for part of Poland. He enabled the start of WII. The Allies warned Stalin Hitlerr was preparing to invade.
