You're right. Unprofessional behavior isn't acceptable from officers. Your solution (revoke his job, throw him into a system where he'll get hurt or killed in jail by habitually violent persons, and put his face on the news, hype the fact that he was unprofessional at one point in time, and otherwise make him unemployable) is not a good one. We should see first if the smallest amount of effort is sufficient to prevent him from being unprofessional. If that means he is off the street and behind a desk for the rest of his career, then put him there. But don't make it a 'punishment' or do it to 'punish' him. And if he shows he is capable of normalcy in the future, let him be. Nothing more NEEDS to be done.

Some instances of "one time" are more severe than others. A bagger who puts the milk on top of the bread one time can be forgiven. A doctor who prescribes high dose cyanide for a sinus headache one time should have his license suspended at best, revoked more likely, and should probably be subject to a criminal investigation. A McDonalds cashier who serves a quarter pounder instead of a Big Mac one time can be forgiven. A CIA supervisor who sells Top Secret material to the Chinese resulting in exposing a majority of our regional operatives just one time should be thrown in jail.

What the officer did mitigates the leniency he might earn from having done this "one time."

She's already trying to get away. I would be very surprised if force in some fashion wasn't used.

Do you have evidence she tried to get away, or are you just assuming she did? Do you have any evidence she was resisting arrest, or are you just assuming she did? There is nothing in the video evidence presented in this thread that supports either claim.

Watch the video again. The confrontation starts before the punching.

I've watched the video several times. There is nothing in it that supports your claims she was resisting arrest or trying to get away.

I don't think she did any deliberate attack on the cop, she was merely trying to escape. That doesn't change the situation.

She might have done something arrest-worthy. It doesn't look as though she did anything gutpunch-worthy. And I don't know where you get the idea she was trying to run away. At what point in the video does that allegedly take place?

The video very very very clearly shows him still standing on his step stool as the policeman passes in front of him to go after the girl. Check around 3:01. Cop passes in front of the preacher. Preacher does not say anything about arresting her at that point or any time before. Cop is then seen shoving the girl, yanking her by her hair (3:06), shoves her to the ground (3:09) That is when preacher says "now she's gonna get arrested" (3:11). He's still on top of his stool, far away from the girl and the cop; he was never "attacked" and never in the video claims he was. The girl does scream at the cop - sounds like she says something like "get the fuck off me" (3:14) and that is when the cop starts punching her in the stomach.

There was no threat, no "melee", no attack, no nothing except a bunch of people screaming at each other until the cop - only only the cop - got violent.

Skinny policeman appears to grab her on the throat all of sudden it seems.
Whose parade was it anyway? if it was gay parade then they should have let them have their parade without Christian harassment.

There's nothing ridiculous about this thread. The only ridiculous thing here is a handful of members that don't recognize abuse of authority when they see it and are in denial about the militarization of our police forces. The simple fact is that we pay police forces to "serve and protect," they are there to keep the peace, not shatter it on a whim. My father worked in law enforcement his entire life. He's done everything from being a court bailiff to serving warrants in some of the shittiest, gang-infested cities in America. What I see here is disgusting and part of that disgust comes from being raised by a man who was a cop for nearly half a century. I am often apt to give our police forces the benefit of the doubt because of him. Their job is thankless, stressful and difficult and on top of that you are on-edge all day long because you must always be prepared for your next moment to potentially be your last. But nothing I see in these videos leads me to believe that there is any sort of justification for the violence displayed here. Our police forces are out of control, and what's even more alarming is that this behavior is becoming even more and more acceptable amongst new recruits. Just recently I watched the video of Albuquerque police killing a homeless man, essentially for camping. For those of you that haven't seen the video, or that would prefer not to watch it, they had him surrounded with guns pointed at him, and he had camp knives in his hands. Like many of the homeless, he was mentally unstable and when he finally prepared to lie on the ground and submit to the jackboot for the crime of camping in the fucking desert the police fired upon him, sicked a dog on him, and handcuffed him. I watched this video with increasing alarm as I found out that this was merely one of some 26 police killings by Albuquerque police in the last 4 years. Add this to the pepper spray incidents during Occupy, and other incidents such as the shooting of the man on the empty bus and I become more than a little concerned about the current state of our police forces, and everyone out there is justified in feeling that at least. Those that don't, are in denial IMO.

Actually no. It is because there are a lot of people who describe themselves as conservo-libertarian, and plenty of right-wing media outlets who use the term to describe themselves as well.

Google it if you don't believe me. Yes, many of the results come from this website, but just as many come from right-wing sources describing themselves.
