Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

Still waiting for AOC to accept that 10 grand from Ben Shapiro to debate her. She could donate that money to a charity and improve some kids lives. But, nope. The embarrassment of her losing to Shapiro outweighs her kindness to do something with the money to help people. So sad.
You will be waiting until the Greek Kalends. Her response at the time: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Twitter: "Just like catcalling, I don’t owe a response to unsolicited requests from men with bad intentions. And also like catcalling, for some reason they feel entitled to one. https://t.co/rsD17Oq9qe" / Twitter I don't see any evidence that she has changed her mind. He is a Gish Galloper and an intellectual bully. I like how his BBC interviewer stood up to him and how he called that interviewer a left-winger.

In other words, AOC doesn't want her arse whipped in any debate she'd be completely humiliated as the moronic bimbo she really is!

So this thread has evolved into Ipetrich giving daily news on AOC, and a few others on the level of "she say sky blue, she so stuuupid"

Been there, done that. Six times. Not for asylum seekers specifically, but for people coming to Alaska to work who needed a place to stay rent-free for a few months while they got situated. Also loaned a car to some Bulgarians here on H-1B visas last summer, and am currently providing rides to some Jamaican H-1B visa workers when the weather's bad or they can't get to where they need to go on their bikes. Also provided a nice down jacket to one Jamaican girl this year (she was freezing in our spring weather), and have bought coats and food for others over the years. My husband has a knack for finding cars, tools, and whatnot on Craigslist for very reasonable prices, to give free of charge or re-sell at no profit.

It's not hard to be helpful and in my experience, most people only need an occasional boost so they can succeed.

The greatest difference been that the people you have helped as you claim came to Alaska to work, not welfare bludgers!

In the United States, asylum seekers are not eligible for welfare. If it's differant in Australia, that's on you.

You forgot the link to a blog that references the same out of context statements from all the previous blog links.

AOC talks 2020 election, giving up social media and why she supports Rep. Omar - YouTube - 2019 Apr 19

I may have heard it earlier, and I may have posted on it, but it is interesting. For some curious reason, the video was all in grayscale, like "black and white" photography.

She talked about immigration and people fleeing strife, and how Ilhan Omar seems to be a better speaker of English than some of her critics, despite English being her second language and her critics' first language. One of the hosts pointed out that AOC's tweets are in much better English than tRump's, despite English being AOC's second language and tRump's first language. But could this be senility or dementia for tRump?

AOC states that she has contact with some Republicans, but that they are afraid to talk about it. Including one who is against WalMart and the like and their buying influence, though he considers himself a super capitalist and believer in the Free Market.

As to Amazon, she marvels at being credited with defeating that company with only 5 tweets. She asks where the claim of 25,000 new jobs comes from -- an Amazon press release? She also notes that $500 million of that deal will be gifts to Amazon, like construction of a helipad for the company(!)

She talked about growing up after the Cold War and not experiencing Communism, and instead experiencing successful northern-European social democracy as an alternative to ultracapitalism, as it might be called.

Finally, a very big issue: Mets vs. Yankees, those two NYC baseball teams.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Explains Socialism During Instagram Live Stream: 'It Does Not Mean Government Owns Everything'
I've never tried to catch any of her Instagram livestreams, however. Seems like her answer to FDR's fireside chats.
"You can have free market economies with democratic socialist businesses. What on earth is a democratic socialist business? A perfect example of that is worker cooperatives...which means that...workers own the shares of the company," Ocasio-Cortez said.

"So a more 'democratically socialist' business would have workers on the board of the corporation instead of billionaires on the boards of corporations. So it's really about democracy in the economy.

"It does not mean government owns everything. Socialism does not mean government owns everything. I disagree with that notion as well because I think it is undemocratic. I think that it is very easily corrupted and I don't think that that's a good thing.

"But I do think that having more democracy in our economy, aka worker power, worker accountability, is a very positive thing."
That would be a good idea. But it is a great failure of US labor unions that they have not tried very hard to achieve this goal.

"Government owns everything" might have some value if the government is democratic, but the most prominent examples of that in action have been Marxist-Leninist one-party states. That model has been a failure, with most of the surviving Marxist-Leninist regimes accepting a lot of capitalism.
"Imagine if we had to pay tuition for our kids to go to school from kindergarten all the way through twelfth grade. It would be untenable, unfeasible, and we would have to rely on businesses that are always trying to profiteer," she said.

"Imagine if Walmart ran your public school. That does not sound fun at all. And so, some people are able to send their kids to private schools. You can do that if that's what you want to do. If you want to pay $30,000 to send your kid to kindergarten, which some people do in New York City, that's your business.

"But we as a society have decided that it is important and that it is vital enough that we provide a public option for elementary education in the United States," she said, adding that the U.S. military is the "original federal jobs guarantee."
I recall from somewhere that the biggest supporters of charter schools and school privatization are billionaires rather than educators or teachers' unions wanting to set up teacher-run cooperatives, almost as if they are in it to suck subsidies more than anything else.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: Student Loan Crisis Means My 'Entire Generation...Is Delaying or Forgoing Purchasing Houses' -- the housing industry is one of numerous industries that millennials have supposedly killed by being unwilling to spend on such things.
"So we have never seen a world where government owned all businesses, but we have lived in a world where big business has owned and bought our government. It has resulted in catastrophic consequences," she said.

"Business-owned government has gotten us a student loan debt crisis, it's gotten us a health care crisis where people are turning to GoFundMe to keep their children alive after car accidents.

Let's not forget that the progressive's hero FDR (also a Democrat) put people in internment camps in WW2. But, that is glossed over by the Dems and progressives.

FDR was wrong to do so. See, some people are capable of criticizing their "heroes". When was the last time you criticized Trump?

Also, it is not glossed over, as many who are criticizing Trump on this issue are specifically drawing attention to the fact that he is using the same camp location FDR used during WW2.

It's hard to completely fault Trump for this considering the separation policy was put in place by the Democrats, not the Republicans.

Ah, the tried and true HL tactic of changing the subject.

Again with her completely inappropriate hyperbole. And "abolish ICE". She wants illegals to have an even easier time to enter and stay in the US than they do now.

When W abolished the INS, was that so "illegals" could more easily enter the US than they did before?

10 grand...for a children's charity! She said no. But, I thought she's a down to earth woman of the average working Joes.

Because that is exactly what down to earth women and average working Joes do every day: debate conservative YouTube celebrities. Right?

Maybe. On the otherhand, at the time of the offer, she was busying campaigning to win her seat and probably did not have the time to deal with a troll.

Here is an assessment of Ben Shapiro and his tactics:
But the holes riddling his reasoning are so wide that, in real time, it takes an uncertain moment or two to make out their precise contours, because you become convinced that you must have missed something important, because surely no one could say something so nonsensical while maintaining a straight face. Yet there is an entire online ecosystem that fetishizes exchanges like this one as unimpeachable evidence of Shapiro's argumentative prowess, and that purport to draw broadly-applicable rhetorical lessons from his intricately-reasoned arguments that you, too, can employ to own the libs with the same effortless aplomb. (The title of the video above is "Ben Shapiro DESTROYS Climate Change Again!!!") These lessons work even if the "mistake" on which you pounce is something as simple as an opponent's inartful turn of phrase.

In this context, it is easy to understand why Ocasio-Cortez had no interest in Shapiro's overtures: They came from someone who advertises himself as a sober logician, but who, as Current Affairs' Nathan J. Robinson put it last year, is merely "a very confident person who speaks quickly." His preferred style of "debate" is less about the good-faith exchange of ideas than it is a forum for intellectual illusionists to showcase new tricks, fine-tuning their acts for future performances by listening to the volume of orgastic cheers and jubilant high-fives that follow. And unlike Ocasio-Cortez, or any of the other public figures whose attention he craves, he has no interest in finding solutions to tangible policy problems. That process entails hard work, and does not lend itself to the type of thirty-second clip that he knows his target audience will watch, like, and retweet.

BTW, there is nothing stopping Mr. Shapiro from making that donation to charity. It would be a real class act - which is probably why he has not done it.

Because that is exactly what down to earth women and average working Joes do every day: debate conservative YouTube celebrities. Right?

If she's as smart as she thinks she is, imagine how much recognition she could get if she beat the great Shapiro in a debate. Her ideas would get out to millions of Americans. Slamming down Ben would do wonders for he career.

Shapiro even offered 50 grand to debate Bernie Sanders. Sanders denied it. Wonder why everyone's so scared of their great socialist ideas.

Zero.

She would get zero recognition.

The Shapiro fanboys would dice and splice the video to make it look like she didn't have her facts straight, or that she paused or stammered or stared blankly for 10-15 seconds at a time, or that she slurred her speech and sounded drunk, or some other stupid shenanigan to influence the perceptions of people too lazy to seek out the actual video, and the vast majority of people would wonder who the heck is Ben Shapiro and just shrug their shoulders over the whole thing.

It won't matter if she won the debate. She will get zero recognition.

Shapiro's fanboys will distort her words and performance to make it look like she lost, and most people won't care either way. Ben Shapiro is a big fish in a very small pond. He's practically a nobody.

That is precisely what happens when you pay the minimum payment. If that's your plan, just ignore the loans. Odds of getting sued are minimal. Only pay the loans if you are able to pay a huge sum at one time. Paying the minimum each month leads to nothing. Same thing with credit card bills. If you are only going to pay the minimum, just ignore it.

No. It is the truth. Paying the minimum payment gets you NOWHERE. If that is your plan, it is best to just ignore it. If you have a lot of money, then pay off a huge portion of the balance. Otherwise, it's not worth it. Do you know how many debt accounts get sold off to debt collectors? Tons. The odds of getting sued are minimal. Even if you do get sued, you can settle for a lower payment because the debt collector bought your debt for pennies on the dollar. They can buy 10 grand worth of debt for 500 dollars for God's sakes! Then, they technically have no right to collect your money because you never gave them permission to buy your debt. Most of the time you ask them to prove that you owe the debt and they can't prove it because they don't have the statements. So, you're off the hook and they move onto the next sucker who doesn't know to ask for proof.

Do you guys not know how this works?

Most of us didn't learn from the grifters school of economics. Incidently, what you described is most definitely not how it works anywhere in the world.
