An absentee ballot is requested by the person who will be voting. You have to make an effort to become an absentee ballot. Granted it isn't much of an effort, barely any effort at all, but it still requires proactive effort.

Mail in voting reverses that and sends a ballot to everyone on the rolls.

all three were already filled in. Which is good, because i would not have remembered if i used my full middle name or my initial. (Wife used the full name, i used initial, one son used middle initial with a period, one son used his middle name).
I just signed one and posted it.
IIRC, the ballot requires a signature, too, so, still the same edffort, same vulnerabilities.
