• Welcome to the new Internet Infidels Discussion Board, formerly Talk Freethought.

What are some positions you would recommend I have before I run for congress?

I graduated got my degree communication and media. Had a job working in social media and marketing.

That's it? That's all you've done?

And you "had" a job working in "social media and marketing." So you don't have that job anymore? Wow.

For shits and grins, I looked up a US Congressman I've actually talked to from my state. Ruben Gallego graduated from Harvard, joined the Marines after college, then after serving in combat in Iraq came home, served as a Chief of Staff for a Phoenix City Council member, and went onto become vice chair of the AZ Democratic Party. He followed that up by being elected to the AZ State House, spent a few years in state politics before running for the US Congress. He's been reelected 3 times now and is on a path to become a US Senator.

How does your resume stack up to that, sport? Because if you want to be elected to the United States House of Representatives AND be taken seriously, that's the kind of resume you need.
I have time though I'm only 24 years old. That person is probably in their 60s.

I am looking to have that type of resume though.
So...apply to an Ivy League school. Join the Marines or whatever branch of the military appeals to you. Work for a city council member or local politician to learn the ropes. Run for the state house in whatever state you live in, and after you've got some experience under your belt go for the big prize.

Or...keep arguing with people on a back corner of the internet and see how that works out for you.
Yeah those are good ideas I am currently running for a spot in my state to start out.
Ruben Gallegos was born in 1979. He’s 44, not 60.

I found that out in under 30 seconds by googling his name. I knew he was substantially younger than 60 but I wanted to be as accurate as possible in my post.

I honestly do not mean to be rude here but you seem to lack the work ethic required to be a politician. Your motivation for wanting to hold office seems to be to impose your world view on others, rather than to serve your state or your country or your fellow citizens. And yet, you seem to lack the very basics of understanding public office or public service, the basic workings of government in any level, or the foundations of this country.

You're 24 and you've had like...one job?
I've had four but I only mentioned my current one because it's the one I have after college.
So you have no relevant experience that even qualifies you for a staff job for a state representative or member of the local city council. What's your degree in, son?
My degree is in Communication and Media.
Really. You've pissed on every piece of advice I've given you over your brief time on this board, but can you guess what my degree is in?

Yep. In fact, I've already told you that I've worked in media. For decades. You missed that, didn't you? Over the course of my career, I worked for some of the largest media corporations in America. That's how I got to spend time with so many politicians, party operatives, and consultants. And yet whenever I managed to hold back from mocking you for your utter ignorance, I gave you some advice. You ignored everything I told you.

I don't know where your coming to these conclusions man. That's not true I have a good work ethic I understand public office and service.

As far as you've indicated, you have no experience in public or community service.

From my meager experience, if you can't manage what you consider pettiness here, you have no shot in politics.

I am wondering what are some positions you would recommend that I have before I run for congress?

Consider student body president.

You seem to be comparing yourself to me and your resume but you shouldn't be doing that at all. It's true you have more experience but you are WAY older than me. I'm only 24 years old you are probably in your 50s or 60s so you can't compare mine to yours because I am MUCH younger.
I misread the post at first I thought you were talking about yourself that's why I changed my response.

My degree is in Communication and Media.
I'd say those are useful skills for politics.

I suggest volunteering for a public service charity to add to your resume. Work on campaigns of other politicians you support.

Their problem is they are woefully undereducated, underskilled, and generally useless. They can't work as a staffer for a politician because they have a communications degree. Whoopee! If they were talented in such a field, they'd need to be working in it within the political sphere, gaining experience, instead of asking ridiculously silly questions.

Working politics is shit job and getting into it is extraordinarily hard. At this point, they are competing with under- or unpaid law school students/graduates, who are used to putting in tremendous amounts of effort. Those people are doing whatever is being asked of them, likely 24/7 in an entirely thankless position.

Are their committees that you can volunteer for? Like Citizens Advisory, or other conservative type committees? This will get your name out there and boost your resume. Is there a Board or other type of organization that you can join? How about a county commissioner or planning commission?

Really? You had never heard of Ruben Gallegos nor had you taken 30 seconds to google and read about him. Instead you looked at someone well accomplished and made an assumption that he must be in his 69’s. Sounds lazy and entitled to me.

Instead of widely reading about the issues most of your community is facing and investigating strategies to address them..,you’re here on this forum asking for advice. You literally want the grown ups to tell you what to do.

Just make up a resume like George Santos and hope you don’t get caught.
Your so pathetic all you do is sit here and troll people posting unhelpful comments just to try to get a rise out of me. It's actually really sad and pathetic.

I don’t mean to discourage you. Heaven forfend! Rather, you should go with who and what you are. Here you are in this latest thread of yours, asking US what positions WE would recommend that YOU should take before running for Congress. But why? You’ve already outlined your stands on the issues — and all your stands are odious.

But in today’s MAGAt (formerly Republican) Party, taking horrific, inhumane and barbaric stands on the issues are strengths and not weaknesses, PROVIDED you find the right district to run in. I don’t know where you live, but unless you already live in a ruby-red district infested with MAGAts, you would probably be better off moving to one of those districts and then running for office. You have plenty of dingbats and wackaloon Red State pols who can serve as role models for you: Marjorie Taylor Green, Lauren Boebert, Ted Cruz, Matt Gaetz, Mike Johnson, and, of course, Donald Trump. Learn from them! Copy how they succeeded and then do the same.

Ditto this. Actually, all he has to do is to pledge unquestioning loyalty to the orange fool. That's 95% of the deal. Let the public know that no amount of treason and insane ideas from Von Drumpf will make you criticize him.

Lauren Boebert is a Republican Member of Congress.
Matt Gaetz is a Republican Member of Congress.
Jim Jordan is a Republican Member of Congress.
Marjorie Taylor Greene is a Republican Member of Congress.
. . . And the list goes on.

Are we sure Mr. Buzz is not OVER-qualified to be a Republican Member of Congress?

I'm not an idiot you edited that part out but I remember you called me it yesterday I just didn't have the energy to respond back to you.

You just wanna argue and fight. You have been putting me down the entire time I have been answering your questions. Your not making any sense.

You asked me what I majored in and I told you Communication and Media and you went off and said all this stuff.

I don't even know what the hell your talking about.

You just wanna argue and fight.

You've argued and fought with everyone on this site, even the ones who gave you honest advice. When someone challenges your positions, you get defensive and lash out. I don't know what other forums or comment sections you frequent, but this place is full of people who are skeptical by nature and will challenge people who come here looking for honest discussion, so if you don't like your ideas being challenged, you're in the wrong place. You're not really here for honest advice, though. You're here to have people tell you what you want to hear, to agree with your positions, and tell you how great you are.

Also, this place doesn't deal in bumper-sticker slogans and simplistic thought processes, so unless you don't want to get into a long, involved discussion, this is (also) not the place you're looking for. You claim you want to be a politician?

One of the things an effective politician must to - in fact perhaps the most important thing - is to READ THE ROOM. This place is a freethought board, and populated by (mostly) people who are part of a small religious minority which has long been marginalized and discriminated against. Yet you come barnstorming in there declaring your intent to win elected office and set about discriminating against marginalized minorities, and parroting the right wing rhetoric that many people here find abhorrent. You're not going to win any converts here.

What are some positions you would recommend I have before I run for congress?

  • You must practice the bending over position. This was explained to you in another thread. You have to find a sugar daddy and do everything he wants. That is how you will get the proper funding as a conservative congressperson. BUT you have to make this connection somehow before you ever get the job. If you make it very clear you are willing to bend over for these guys and start doing it, they will see you as an ally early on. So, take a look at your corporate overlords and Christian sharia law advocates--see the thread on IVF for example--and start advocating for their positions very loudly in public...like newspaper op eds, crazy QAnon tweets, and other media...to be discussed more below.
  • You must practice the standing up, jumping up and down like a knuckle dragging gorilla position. It's a pretend position, like you were always doing it (not bending over), like you are an alpha, and especially like you are mad on behalf of the little guy. This is very, very key in right-wing populism to reframe all your support of your sugar daddy as if it supports the little guy. Here's an example. Suppose your sugar daddy is the CEO of McDonald's. They've recently had to give $20/hr wage to employees in California. So scream at the top of your lungs how it is unfair to everyone else who makes less than them. Scream about how it is going to raise prices extremely effecting poor consumers. Never ever mention all the profit you and sugar daddy are getting or that they've been raising the price an average of 10% per year. You have to jump around, screaming, pointing fingers, yelling about communism on social media and in traditional media about this.

See how the bending over and standing up, jumping up and down like a knuckle dragging gorilla positions work?

Like what type of resume should I be building up and having before I run for congress?

I recommend AM Radio as a start. You already have a communications degree and so you should try very hard to be a talker. Note the first two positions I mentioned, though: bending over and standing up, jumping up and down like a knuckle dragging gorilla. Your opportunities to find sugar daddies to appeal to goes up exponentially when they can hear you propagandizing the issues like right-wingers do. They can see you have reach. No one is going to hand you a position and so you should aim to be the quirky third or fourth person on some talk show or morning music or whatever but where you can inject politics. Then, you need to learn and grow into a celebrity. This is how many right-wingers made it into politics like Reagan and Trump. Eventually, what you do (after sugar daddies contact you and are willing to support you), you make a statement about how fed up you are and so you will resign from radio and run for office. You should only do that after you've built up a very large gullible base of brainwashed minions. You can also measure how many minions you have by counting followers on X (formerly known as Twitter) and tweak how to activate them by your insane commentary.

What would a strong resume look like before I run for congress?

The best resume you can have should be invisible so voters can't see your qualifications. It's like how Donald Trump hid his tax returns and his academic record. Threaten lawsuits on your college and make your resume private. As a conservative you should already know, it's never, ever about building yourself up, it's always about going on the attack. When you run for office, you want people to remember what you said about the evil liberal who is trying to have sex with their children and raise their taxes--to clarify not the children's taxes, the taxes on the general public--, they should not then care what kind of grades you got in college in your class on Social Media History.

But it works. First you need full control over that. Being easily set off doesn’t work for effective politicians.

Also: “you’re”

I am wondering what are some positions you would recommend that I have before I run for congress?
Volunteer is a position you should get.
  • At a hospice
  • At a homeless shelter
  • At an adult daycare
You should get this position so that you can learn EMPATHY and you can learn to LISTEN. Do this for a year. Do it for two.
At 24 years old, you should already have 400 hours of volunteer service to others under your belt. Do you?

Like what type of resume should I be building up and having before I run for congress?
One that includes a knowledge of how to ask questions.
You have come here and asked the same question, what, 7 times now?

Not ONCE have you demonstrated that you actually did anything recommended by people who spent time gifting you with their answers.

  • Not ONCE have you come back with your homework done and said, “okay, I went and looked up jurisprudence, here’s what I think it is, am I right?”
  • Not ONCE have you come back and said, “Yeah, I went to the town hall to check on running for town council and I have put in my papers to run.”
  • Not ONCE have you come back and said, “I went to the town council monthly meeting last week and here’s what I learned.”
  • Not ONCE have you demonstrated the work ethic of doing the homework suggested to you.
  • Not ONCE have you come back and said, “okay, I looked up the resumes of the 10 youngest congressmembers, and here’s what they look like.

You should build up a resume of SHOWING your work ethic and demonstrating that you will not lazily return to ask the same question an 8th time without having done any followup on the answers you received before.

What would a strong resume look like before I run for congress?

A strong resume would look like you showing back up here with a careful summary of all the advice you have been given in the previous 6 threads.
Try it.
Prove to us that you have earned the right to ask more questions.
Prove to us that you have a work ethic by summarizing the advice you’ve been given.
Prove to us that you have noticed the difference between “your” and “you’re”.

What exactly are you EXPECTING to hear? It sounds like you want a checklist of steps guaranteed to turn into a congressional career.

Hint. There isn’t one.

Here’s another hint:
The people here want integrity, hard work and critical thinking.

We DON’T have any respect for politicians who want power to impose unpopular oppressive laws.
And if you haven’t figured that out by listening and reading the room, you’ll remain perplexed about why ON EARTH any one of us would possibly want to give you any useful advice on how to oppress us.

You are asking the wrong crowd. And you haven’t figured out that what we would vote for, you don’t have.. Starting with empathy, an ability to do your own homework, and the gravitas to manage the mood when you say things that will disgust the people you are talking to, and they react with disgust.

You should go to 4chan and ask them. They’d love what you say is your position, and they won’t bat an eyelash when you show that you won’t do the homework.

Why are you even asking a bunch of moderate to liberal atheists how to get ahead as a fascist asshole?
Seriously why would you even ask this group these questions?. You have to know that we abhor your idea of just getting power to impose your will. Surely you know this.

Warrior Pose would make more sense. Flexibility-centric poses are female coded to most Americans, especially conservatives; if their doctor or SO is "making" them do yoga, they're going to gravitate toward the more athletic asanas, and almost always favor the standing ones. To be prone or inverted is too vulnerable to an American male; it "feels gay" and therefore frightening. Both to do, or even to see other men doing. So if you're going to be photographed in any pose, it needs to be the kind of pose that 24 Hour Fitness would want on the ad posters. The Warrior, Crescent Lunge, Vikshrasana, that sort of thing.
