I don’t see any strategic value to the pick; he’s just another white nutbag from a state that Biden had no shot to win.
He's young, popular, articulate, and has that rare advantage of not being associated by the public with the Washington "Elites" despite being on most of their dinner invite lists. What more could you ask for in an electoral side-chick?I don’t see any strategic value to the pick; he’s just another white nutbag from a state that Biden had no shot to win.
The Lincoln Project was locked and loaded for this one.
The Project 2025 is just one of many crank think tanks that the conspiracy theorists and fearmongers have recently latched onto
and notingHearing A LOT of alarm today among GOP donors & Reaganite conservative types about JD Vance
On trade, taxes, unions, antitrust — he’s signaled sharp departure from traditional conservatism, despite venture capitalist roots
Now he’s heir apparent for the party, & Reaganites fear being shut out
Vance had troubled them by:
— Praising Biden FTC pick Lina Khan
— Suggesting openness to higher corporate taxes
— Backing Trump’s major tariffs & trade barriers
— Being tied to Oren Cass’s pro industrial & family policy group
— Visiting UAW picket line
OTOH plenty of reason to feel these fears are overstated
Vance has:
— Given no indication he’ll resist Trump plans on cutting corporate taxes & the rich, deregulating businesses
— Rejected PRO Act
— Signed Grover Norquist’s tax pledge
— Tied himself to billionaire Peter Thiel
"What they're trying to do is tap into white working-class cultural and social signifiers, while doing as little as possible to actually reduce incomes at the top and actually redistribute them down. It's a delicate game they play," said Matt Bruenig, co-founder of the People's Policy Project, which advances left-wing policies. "Obviously, it's going to miss the welfare state, it's going to miss tax- based redistribution these things that are essential to creating an egalitarian society.'
