Yes. Emily is obviously a supporter but doesn't have the guts to come right out and say it. She worries about guys in women's spaces but supports a guy who entered a women's dressing room and raped a woman.

Except you are taking the word "qualified" and trying to make it an idol. You need electricity work done on your home? Let's grab 100 random people and find out what they do for a living. When you have 10 it probably doesn't make sense to apply hard filters anymore. But what if you had 10,000? (By the time you're looking at a VP or SCOTUS pick that's not an unreasonable number.) Do you compare them? Or do you filter the pool by some means?

DEI is by stopping filtering at the point where filtering more would exclude all of those with your desired attribute(s), then claiming everyone still left is equally qualified. And, realistically, VP picks normally are. They aren't being selected as the most qualified, but as the most qualified that appeals to certain segments.

One of the qualifications for a vice presidential candidate is will the vp candidate draw more votes than another choice of vp candidate. Remember President Ford dropped Vice President Rockefeller because he thought keeping him on was detrimental to the ticket. So Ford picked Robert Dole who came across as just a bitter hatchet man. Ford later regretted dropping Rockefeller and admitted it was a mistake. Later research shows that in retrospect keeping Rockefeller probably would have helped Ford squeeze a victory over Carter.

One thing that irked Ford was the idea of his vice president in the minds of many being the one really in charge because well, he was a Rockefeller. Ford picked him because he was perceived as hard on crime but also rather liberal for a Republican.

My understanding of US history that after the Constitution was changed so tgat VP was not the booby prize, VP candidates typically were chosen to “balance “ the ticket in some fashion. IMO that made them DEI candidates. So all this caterwauling about Ms Harris was a DEI candidate as something new or out of the ordinary is just ignorance or hypocrisy or stupidity or racism.
