The RFK Jr. Thread

I think it's more than fair to consider RFK to be a nut and I'm going to share one of my last WaPo articles for the month that gives examples of his nuttiness. If you don't think he's a nut, please read the entire article. đŸ„œ

https://wapo.st/4hWeLAd

Only a kook would believe all of the above. Has anyone read how he wants to take people off of their antidepressants and make them grow their own food etc.? Seriously? The guy is fucking nuts!

The articles goes into a lot of detail regarding each one of his false claims and gives reasons as to why his claims are false. The only thing he says that is fairly reasonable is that Americans eat too much overly processed food. Still, that isn't going to cure the obesity epidemic, which is fairly complicated. We know, for example, that processed sandwich meat is very unhealthy, but does anyone really think that the Trump administration is going to do anything about that, considering that Trump practically lives on junk food and he wants to give big tax breaks to corporations? Okay. I digress.

To be fair, he's not actually wrong about this, though not in the way he imagines.

As a delivery system for misinformation, 5G plays a central and ongoing role in the making of RFK and those like him.

How much you want to bet that every bad thing that ends up happening will be blamed on Biden?
Bullshit. Show me one time when FOX news during Bush Jnr blamed anything on Clinton. Or when they blamed Obama during Trump beta version.

Go on. I bet you can't. *insert shitty sarcasm emoji here*

There's a lot of sanesplaining among my GOP acquaintances that ignores everything on this list while just promoting RFKjr as a champion of the people in a battle against big pharma and big food. Sure a disrupter that doesn't walk the corporate line would be good but not when it is a mess of unfounded and dangerous pseudoscientific 'theories'.

I just read about this and couldn't resist adding it to this thread.

State health officials say the bird flu virus was detected in a retail sample of raw milk from a dairy in Fresno, California

The dairy, Raw Farm, issued a voluntary recall for one batch of cream top, whole raw milk with a best buy date of Nov. 27.
“Consumers should immediately return any remaining product to the store where it was purchased," the state health department said in a statement.

Pasteurized milk remains safe to drink, the department said.

On Friday, health officials confirmed bird flu in a California child — the first reported case in a U.S. minor.

The child had mild symptoms, was treated with antiviral medication and is recovering, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said.

So much for RFK Jr. and his claims about the benefits of raw milk. The AJC doesn't let me share articles but the above quote pretty much sums it up.

If RFK Jr. has his way he will fire those health officials that are able to trace these illnesses to raw milk, at least at the federal level

He wants to pause all research on infectious diseases for, I quote, "about 8 years", and tracing the origin of a bird flu outbreak is exactly the kind of research he considers wasteful.

It isn't an exaggeration to say that Trump's cabinet nominees are being picked not to run the federal agencies they're put in charge of, but to destroy them.

The damn raw milk could help start a bird flu pandemic. I read that bird flu has been found in number of cows in California. Just what we need, another pandemic with idiots who refuse to take vaccines or do anything to help stop the spread. At least there are two vaccines for Bird flu currently being developed, so those of us who aren't afraid of vaccines will likely have an option to prevent bird flu. Hope the cases stay mild and the virus doesn't mutate into something more severe. At least for now, it appears that it's not spreading much, but the I heard on the news that about 10 million Americans drink raw milk. WTF is wrong with these people!

The symptoms of bird flu in humans are similar to symptoms caused by other flu viruses, Dr. Schaffner says. They include cough, sore throat, runny nose, fatigue, and muscle aches. Conjunctivitis, or eye redness, is also a symptom, which likely occurs when agricultural workers touch an infected animal and then touch their face, Dr. Schaffner adds.

“For the most part, cases have been relatively mild to this point,” Dr. Dumford says. “Most people who have had H5N1 bird flu have had inflammation of the lining of the eye known as conjunctivitis along with fever, chills, cough, and sore throat.”

Well, Bobby's still better than Subway Jared.

Because you just know we'll need to have a whole thread only on him.

RFK Jr. Says He'll Send People Taking Adderall To Labor Camps

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., independent challenger for president and anti-vaccine activist, has a cockamamie solution for drug addicts and people who use medication for depression or ADHD: strip people of their tech gadgets and send them to government-funded "wellness farms" to grow organic food.

Doesn't that sound suspiciously like... a labor camp?!

Kennedy extolled this unworkable idea during a video-taped podcast last week billed as a "Latino Town Hall," first flagged by Mother Jones.

"I’m going to create these wellness farms where they can go to get off of illegal drugs, off of opiates, but also illegal drugs, other psychiatric drugs, if they want to, to get off of SSRIs, to get off of benzos, to get off of Adderall, and to spend time as much time as they need — three or four years if they need it — to learn to get reparented, to reconnect with communities," he said during the broadcast.

Interesting how some conservatives will claim they "support the science" and then do things like, refuse to accept there are certain psychiatric conditions which REQUIRE medications, and can't simply be unlearned. And before anyone says "but it's voluntary!" yes, so is faith healing, doesn't make it any less bullshit or exploitative.
Sounds an awful lot like the Cultural Revolution. My wife lived through the Cultural Revolution--and from what she's told me of that time I consider it a closed book that should only be opened by a trauma therapist.

He's against pain meds too. I guess I'm in trouble because I've been taking an opioid for pain for over 5 years and I'm still alive and well otherwise. In fact, I just lowered the dose recently as one builds up a tolerance to pain meds over time and they stop helping. For the vast majority of people, narcotic pain relievers simply decrease the pain to some extent so they can have some quality life. And, NSAIDS are potentially dangerous for older adults. My sister has taken all kinds of anti-depressants and anti anxiety meds, aka benzos for most of her adult life, and so does my neighbor and the very nice Trump supporting neighbor who lives across the street takes a control drug for pain too. I do wonder if he realizes he made a mistake yet. All of us are in our 70s.. Will we have to work on the farm or will we be age exempt? Or will doctors be forbidden from ordering any of these drugs in the future. That'll work. ;)
Yup, while there are those who take them for kicks an awful lot of people are dependent on many such drugs to remain functional. And there are a lot of older people with physical limits that aren't to the point of disability because they can work around them. (For me: 10 miles of walking on flat terrain--fine. 10 miles of not-flat terrain with hiking poles--fine. A staircase without being able to use a railing--very slowly and carefully. It's a matter of keeping peak forces down.)

A Florida city voted this week to remove fluoride from its drinking water, with one city commissioner citing Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s past comments on the matter as one of the reasons.

“I’ll tell you that after the recent election, President Trump has named Mr. Kennedy to be his H-something-something director, and Mr. Kennedy has made it well known and has publicly said that he wants fluoride out of the water around the entire country,” said Dantzler, who voted in favor to remove fluoride, according to WFLA.

Maybe we need to start spreading our own conspiracies since this is what the MAGA crowd seems to respond to.

RFK Jr. is being directed by the dental lobby to remove fluoride from the nation's water supply so that dentists can get wealthy on fixing the rotting teeth of America's children. It has been shown that fluoride in appropriately small amounts in the water leads to children having on average two fewer cavities and no negative long term health effects.

RFK Jr. is being directed by the medical lobby to get rid of vaccines so that they can earn much more money treating sick people from infectious diseases. Also, there is an elite cabal that wants to get rid of vaccines as a way to help depopulate the earth.
Doesn't even take that much of a conspiracy theory: our hygienist likes what he's saying. He's opposed to fluoride in the water, thinks it should only be applied directly to the teeth.

our hygienist likes what he's saying. He's opposed to fluoride in the water, thinks it should only be applied directly to the teeth.
He doesn’t get paid to tell people to drink water, he gets paid for applying fluoride directly to the teeth.

I’m sure that making our foods healthier will only make them cheaper, especially after deporting all the farm workers. Woohoo!!

And I’m sure that the smaller, more efficient government with less funding that we will soon have won’t be needed to regulate the food industry to ensure healthy products because corporations always work for the best interests of their customers. MAGA!!!

This could be fun to watch. RFK Jr. has been quite the critic of "Big Ag" and their reliance on things like GMO seeds and pesticides. It'll be interesting to see what happens when the suits from Monsanto, Tyson, Cargill and others show up in his DC office and patiently and firmly explain to him how this whole thing works. Their lobbyists exert enormous influence over Congress, and if he messes with their business model, he's not gonna have a good time.
It used to be a Democratic value to support health and welfare over corporate profits. That is no longer the case anymore. The Republicans used to actually be the opposition party of billionaires and corporate profits over health and welfare.....but since MAGA took them over, Republicans are the ones who represent the people now.
MAGA is a new hat on the same shit. Look at what they're planning: tax cuts for the rich, regulation cuts on business. Screw the little guy.

Is RFK jr. really a loon? I don't know and you don't either. Science used to be truthful but it isn't anymore now that politics has inserted itself with profits. I know I sure like large corporations being put on notice people like RFK jr. will be expecting health over their profits. The Democrats wouldn't be doing anything except offering Monsanto more blow jobs. And if Monsanto and others shit their pants over this, you might be pleased them making less profits could be a good thing for your own health.
Loon would be charitable. His "solution" would kill me.

It not as though America doesn't have unhealthy people, rampant autism (including my own son), and a host of other drug addiction that actually needs attention by our government.

I say lets see if RFK jr. actually does a good job and then start bitching about what he is trying to do. Its too early to complain about him yet.
About that autism "epidemic". Look more carefully at the records--there's no epidemic. Yes, there has been an explosion of "autism" cases--but it's actually been a shift. It's still the same patients, it's just now we recognize it's a failure to interact rather than a failure to think in the first place.

Must be tough being you. So much suffering, due to incomprehension.

SCIENCE DOESN’T MAKE STATEMENTS.
IT IS A METHODOLOGY.

Rest easy, @RVonse. Science remains mankind’s best tool for converging on the truth, despite humans’ tendency to lie about that fact. This is still true matter how many people like you can be swayed to think think science lies.

Maybe RFK jr. is a loon but you don't know if he is. You don't know because our science can not be trusted to tell the truth when it involves politics and profits for large corporations.

Is fluoride harmful? I have no idea. But what I can tell you is that materials like asbestos and lead paint were common when I was young. The harmful effects of smoking were known but not in public discourse yet because of tobacco profits either.

So it would not surprise me in the least if there actually were harmful side effects from fluoridated water.
Something to understand about fluoridated water: It's the result of a natural experiment. People noticed the positive effects of living in areas with higher natural fluoride levels. Man is simply reproducing nature.

I do agree that big business goes a long way towards covering up the downside of things they make a lot of profit on. But that does not mean they have any incentive to create harmful things that don't bring profit. There are no patents involved in fluoridated water, no fancy chemicals. The market is driven by demand, not by suppliers.
