Which movie did you watch today and how would you rate it?

Tried to watch High Anxiety and it wasn't working for me. Brooks can be hit or miss at times. He has had some dogs out there. He is also responsible for some of the best as well.

That's one of my favorites. I still think about the blowup homage scene.

Found some other goodies.

House of Darkness

I watched this one about 4 hours ago and had to look up its name because I'd already forgotten it.

It seemed like an intriguing slow burn at first, and it was building towards something. Then nothing happened. Then things kept on not happening, except for one scene which turned out to be a dream sequence and had nothing to do with anything else in the film, but by then I was too far into the movie to turn it off, which is the worst kind of movie there is.

Synopsis: Guy gets picked up by Pretty Woman. Guy tries to get laid. It's implied that Guy's a creep for trying to get laid. Pretty Woman is evil. Things don't end well for Guy.

2/10

Deadpool Vs Wolverine

I hated it.
Sure it was mostly funny. And it brings Wolverine back from the dead (I didn't know he was dead, so meh..).
But Deadpunk is an ass. He ruins for me, every scene he is in.

Deep Water, 6/10; Stars Ben Affleck as Vic, a retired wealthy tech bro. He has a wife Melinda and young daughter. Melinda is in the habit of taking on lovers which Vic tolerates but he is becoming increasingly jealous of. One of her lovers has disappeared and the rumor is that Vic had something to do with it. Melinda is entertaining another male friend, Vic confesses to him that he killed his wife's last lover, as a joke. This was probably the best scene in the movie. The movie does have some tense moments but there isn't enough action in the movie to keep the viewer engaged. There is too much emphasis on the build up which may be fine for some people. The acting performances are good, Affleck plays his character well, maybe because him and the character are similar. Deep Water is decent, worth a watch.

Alien Romulus

Several young people working on a Waylen Yutani operation planet plan to leave for better climes. They need supplies for their cryo pods for their trip so they decide to raid an abandoned space station that is due to crash into the rings of the planet in days. Of course the space station is infested with aliens begining with the face huggers. The characters abandon each out of terror causing all sorts of havoc for themselves.

Sorry to say but this was the worst of the Alien movie series. The only character who inspires any sympathy is the android. There is little story/character development, they just jump unknowingly right into the danger. Nothing new here at all. Ridley Scott should be ashamed.

Clearly he has no shame. Check the reviews of the Gladiator sequel.

I never watched the alien series, probably because you kinda know going in everyone gets eaten, so why invest any feeling in fictitious people who are due to expire?
Sounds like the Aliens industry has discovered that audiences simply like to watch people get eaten by aliens.

Alien and Aliens were both great but differant movies. Well worth a watch if you haven't seen them.

It has become another Terminator series, where the movies are more themed and less plot important. With no real resolution, there is no point is watching unless you like horror/thrillers or ridiculous films.

There's a word for that.
Great. Another out-group in need of political representation.

Mystic River, 7/10; Directed by Clint Eastwood this crime thriller has a strong cast, Kevin Bacon, Tim Robbins, Sean Penn, Larry Fishbourne and Laura Linney. The movie opening scene shows three young teenage boys playing in the street, one of the boys is abducted and sexually abused before he manages to escape. Years later the now adult boys are making their way through life. Penn is an ex con, Robbins is struggling with his past trauma and Bacon is a detective. Penn's daughter goes missing and Bacon is on the case. The movie plays out very well up until the very end where I felt the ending didn't quite fit the characters involved. Just a twist too far for my liking but overall a good watch.

You can reduce the plot of any story to make it sound lame.

Romeo and Juliet: two horny kids from rival families fall in love and die in the end via misunderstanding.

A Christmas Carol: old guy learns lessons in greed and generosity.

Grapes of Wrath: poor family strives to survive, but fails because the system is rigged against them.

Etc.

The original Alien is a masterpiece of suspense, atmosphere, design, and originality. Every film in the series following it is so inferior because none come close to reproducing the original in any meaningful way.

Watch the first one and feel safe in not watching any of the others.

I disagree. The 2nd one (Aliens) is also a masterpiece in film making, but in a different way than Alien (which is also a masterpiece). I consider the series over and done after the 2nd one, and generally recommend to others not to continue watching after that.

Personally, I liked all the alien movies, the predator movies, prequels, sequels, the crossovers, etc. I even liked the last one, but Ziprhead's criticism that it is nothing new at all is 100% true, admittedly. I found the hybrid in the ending to be very similar to the hybrid scenes in another one, but I won't get into it too much since I do not want to be a spoiler.

"Alienses" is a dumb name for a movie anyway :p

They were two differant movies. The first was basically a haunted house in space. The second was action/adventure. I think Aliens made Bill Paxton a star, his performance was exceptional. And as you said, they are both masterpieces. Anyone not bothering to watch them is denying themselves a couple of the greatest SciFi movies ever made.
