GOP post mortem

I wonder how much of the vote was anti-Trump rather than pro-Democrat?
Your system does not allow for disaffected voters to protest outside the duopoly.
Neither does ours, mate.
I’m not sure what is escaping Tigers! here. .
He is apparently laboring under some misconception that people are only allowed to vote for two choices that have already been made for them.
This is flatly, uncategorically, entirely
FALSE.
His conviction to the contrary, and vehemence that it must be as he misconstrues it, has to speak to some state of Aussie propaganda, poor education or other information suppressing factor.

Willful ignorance is a possibility.

It is unusual but third party candidates are sometimes elected. The example that always leaps to mind for me is Jesse Ventura, former pro wrestler, who was elected as Governor of Minnesota.

Most states allow write in candidates although the chance of most writing to win is usually quite small.

… but infinitely greater than zero chance.
The chance that any random individual will win a State-wide or National office, is minuscule. And that is in NO WAY reflective of bias, lack of freedom of choice or any of the other characteristics Tigers! imagines to limit Americans’ choices.

Yes. You can always write in your vote. For example, Lisa Murkowski won back her seat after losing in the Republican primary and not being the “official” Republican candidate on the ballot.
But her name was on the ballot paper was it not?

No. She was a write in candidate.

At this point I gotta wonder why this info isn’t readily available to Aussies. They have internet access, obviously. There are burgeoning online sources eager to provide this kind of info to honest inquiry.
Where is the disconnect? How did T end up with such dismal misunderstanding?

I misread your post and looked this up. I did not know that Norm Coleman, who'd run against Wellstone who'd die and the right-wing would politicize Wellstone's funeral, lost to Ventura.

Having that ability to have a "write-in" candidate is an interesting ideal. I did not realise that facility existed.

I can think of times I have voted in Australia when that ability would have been so good. The candidate 'Mum' would win a lot of votes.

I’m fairly confident now, that January will be a very bad month for the trumpsuckers in Congress, and a fairly miserable one for Trump as well. The next couple of years will probably see lots of innovation in the massive tacky monuments industry, and little attention of the executive branch will be allocated to new outrage production.

We’ll have to wait and see if the pedo traitors were able to burn the Epstein evidence … probably so, being a bipartisan point of exposure. Pity.

Nonsense. The chance that any random individual will win a State-wide or National office, is far more minuscule than it needs to be, and its excessive minuscularity reflects the American system's bias against people who don't have friends in high places.

Former pro wrestler isn't the material factor. Jesse Ventura, former star of Predator, was elected as Governor.

:beers:

I think more people knew him from his wrestling days.

I never heard of him until that disgusting spectacle at the White House this past summer.

The fact is that many local seats go unchallenged and people struggle to get anyone to run.

Case in point: I rue the fact that I was unaware that a particular person was running unopposed for a council seat in my small town. He’s a nasty little troll with a lot of local name recognition because he used to write for a local news paper. He could seem witty and very down home ah shucks and gee whiz if you didn’t actually attend school board or city council meetings and knew what actually happened not just what troll boy wrote.

I’m still kicking myself fir not being better aware and finding someone to stand against him.
