Lev Parnas, ex-associate of Donald Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani, guilty of violating US campaign finance laws

Lev Parnas, a onetime associate of Donald Trump's former personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani, has been found guilty of violating US campaign finance laws during the 2018 elections.

The verdict was returned in Manhattan federal court, where the Ukraine-born American businessman was on trial for more than two weeks.

Prosecutors accused him of using other people's money to pose as a powerful political broker and cozy up to some of the nation's star Republicans.

Parnas and his former associate Igor Fruman were accused of soliciting funds from Russian businessman Andrey Muraviev to donate to candidates in states where the group was seeking licenses to operate cannabis businesses in 2018.

The 49-year-old also concealed that he and Fruman, who pleaded guilty in September, were the true source of a donation to a group supporting Republican then-president Trump, prosecutors said.

On Steele's Dossier:

Quite a character this Mr. Danchenko

On Steele's Dossier:

Quite a character this Mr. Danchenko

Danchenko knew of the charges in advance and had already agreed to surrender, but the FBI only moved to arrest him because news of the impending indictment was leaked.

This is another "talking indictment" from the Durham investigation against those who investigated the collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian government. Like the last one, it is very light on the specifics of the charge or the actual evidence to prove it. Rather, most of the indictment is taken up with a discussion of various right wing conspiracy theories and repeated lies about nefarious Democrats trying to discredit Trump and his administration. And, like the last one, it seems destined not to lead to any actual convictions, since Danchenko was always clear and explicit about the fact that a lot of his evidence was based on hearsay and uncorroborated sources. Durham's investigation has now dragged on longer than the Mueller investigation and led to very few charges without any convictions (this being only the third indictment). Durham was obviously hired by the Trump administration for purely political reasons to discredit the Russiagate scandal, and the Biden administration has done nothing to hinder it, although the opposite was true of the Trump administration. That is, Donald Trump stonewalled and obstructed until the artificial deadline on that investigation expired. Biden has not done the same with Durham, because he trusts the legal system to work properly. If the charges can be proved, then those convicted should face justice. Until that happens, the people indicted are innocent until proven guilty, and Tom Wolfe's old adage remains true--you can indict a ham sandwich, if that's what you want.

You keep distorting the information.
The guy was ARRESTED and one of his crimes was faking a phone call.
Add to that that the guy had been under investigation by the FBI prior to this on unrelated BS.
Plus drunkenness arrests. These are the people Fiona HIll is hanging up with.

Be specific. Are you talking about Danchenko's claim to the FBI that he got a call from a man with a Russian accent that he thought was Chamber President-1???? That isn't the same thing as "faking a phone call". There are alleged discrepancies between his claim and that of another witness, but that could come down to merely conflicting testimony, which would likely be insufficient to convince a jury. We will have to wait for the trial. As for the arrest, I already explained the circumstances. He arranged to come in voluntarily, but the FBI decided to arrest him suddenly because of leaked information. It wasn't as if he was trying to conceal his whereabouts or did not know he was being charged. That was known in advance.

Add to that that the guy had been under investigation by the FBI prior to this on unrelated BS.
Plus drunkenness arrests. These are the people Fiona HIll is hanging up with.

It's possible that he was guilty of breaking the law in other matters but still be innocent of these charges. This is totally irrelevant. Lots of people are arrested for being drunk, but that isn't the same thing as lying to the FBI.

ETA: Danchenko had once been that subject of a counterintelligence investigation on whether he had worked for Russian intelligence services. Apparently, nothing came of it, and he has denied that he ever worked for Russian intelligence. Most of the charges are quite vague and flimsy, but that is normal in a talking indictment of this sort. The NY Times article probably has the most detailed public information on the background of the indictment:

Authorities Arrest Analyst Who Contributed to Steele Dossier

LOL, these people are digging their hole dipper.
And by "these people" I mean people who concocted that ridiculous conspiracy theory about Alfa bank Trump servers communications.

By the way, does it bother you that trump&Alfa&Co are doing exactly what I suggested years (I think) ago? I mean going hard after people behind this story?

Why would they do that? Are they idiots? Story had died, why resurrect it if you think you did wrong?
Could it be that they actually asked experts and were assured by them they would win for sure.
Boomerang my ass.

By that logic you must believe that Orange Mouth's fat ass should be sitting in the oval office.

You honestly believe that conspiracy theory?

I certainly don't. You seemed to be making the point, however, that Trumpo and his clowns wouldn't be "going hard after" people who disagreed with him unless Trumpo and his clowns were after truth as opposed to peddling propaganda and lies. Maybe I misunderstood what you were saying.

You don't believe Alfa bank conspiracy theory and yet you argue with me?
That makes no sense. Yes I did make a point that after years of doing nothing Trump's clowns and apparently Alfa bank "clowns" decided to resurrect it. So why would they do it now?
And these "researchers" with their emails. That's hilarious. Instead of actually defending their theory they defend their "professional" reputation by publishing their emails presumably proving they believed their BS.
I don't really care for their emails. I knew their conspiracy theory was BS immediately.

Perhaps I'm not as astute as yourself when it comes to judging evidence. I'd like to see the matter resolved. Let's see the data.

I'd like to see the matter resolved. Let's see the data.
What data?
Huh? Evidence that they used to make their determinations, that data, the kind of information that would be looked at by any reasonable person, juror, etc.

Now if you think the whole thing is a giant conspiracy and that there isn't any data at all - and you could be right - then we would certainly find out, just like we did with Trumpo's election claims.

What evidence do you have to determine that Pizza-gate is BS?

I explained in the beginning why Alfa Bank conspiracy is utter bullshit.
You can go ask any independent IT person and they would confirm it.
This is what these lawyers did, and this is why this is being resurrected.
They know that not only there is nothing to it but that can easily win in court and probably get some money from Rachel Maddow. She is fucking stupid, she had what? 3-4 years to ask for second opinion? Yet she has not.

Alfa Bank’s New Lawsuits

Whatever the reasons for the inconclusive and odd accounts emanating from the DOJ and the FBI, Alfa Bank may now be capitalizing on the confusion. On June 11, the bank filed lawsuits in Palm Beach County, Florida and Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where the companies that owned and administered the Trump server are located. The two similar complaints allege a criminal conspiracy by unidentified defendants (John Doe), who ostensibly forged emails by manipulating DNS data to make it appear that the bank was communicating with the Trump Organization.

Oddly, Alfa Bank’s new theory of the case is inconsistent with the company’s own prior statements. Dinh wrote in 2017 that the company hired Mandiant and that “Mandiant’s hypothesis was that any server-related activity between Alfa Bank and the Trump Organization was the result of an automated email-based campaign to market Trump properties to Alfa Bank employees.” So which is it? That innocuous account that Alfa Bank put forth earlier or the new nefarious one?

Demanding jury trials in the two swing states, Alfa Bank’s lawyers from Skadden Arps have issued aggressive subpoenas in the Florida case to computer scientists and DNS records custodians, as well as to Glenn Simpson, Peter Fritch and their firm Fusion GPS, which commissioned the Steele dossier, and former DNC lawyer Sussmann.

It is noteworthy that Skadden formerly employed Alex van der Zwaan, who was convicted in 2018 of lying to Mueller’s prosecutors about his communications with Paul Manafort, Rick Gates and Russian military intelligence (GRU) spy Konstantin Kilimnik during the 2016 election campaign. Van der Zwaan’s father-in-law is one of Alfa Bank’s co-owners, German Khan, and the law firm has represented Alfa Bank in numerous litigations over the years.

Alfa Bank’s complaint makes the erroneous claim that in October 2016 the FBI was granted a FISA warrant to wiretap the Trump server, citing two sources: Louise Mensch, a known purveyor of conspiracy theories, and the December IG report, which discusses only warrants granted in relation to Carter Page.

As evidence for its conspiracy allegations, the complaint cites an April 2020 study by the cybersecurity firm Ankura. According to the 41-page analysis, a “likely scenario” is that third parties artificially created the activity to make it appear as though a connection existed. But computer scientist L. Jean Camp, one of those who first studied the server data, gave me her assessment of the analysis just after it was posted on the Internet by the conservative website Just the News: “It confuses the issue by adding remote possibilities.”

Is it possible that the servers in question were built in Venezuela? This would explain everything. Well, not everything actually.

It's not known. Could be either or both. It should be investigated. But one thing is for sure, Rachel Maddow is not as smart as people/she think.
