2026 Mid-Term Elections

So, Republican incumbent who's mistress burned herself to death, but defeated the Nazi in the GOP primary (but not by enough)... is stepping aside because he admitted to the affair. He will not continue to run for re-election. The Nazi is going to be the lead candidate, only candidate for the runoff. Don't get excited, the district is so red, they'd vote for Hitler... and they'll be close to doing so.

article said:
In a statement, House Speaker Mike Johnson (Louisiana) and other GOP leaders said the House Ethics Committee had opened an investigation into the affair and urged the committee to act “expeditiously.” Under House rules, lawmakers are not permitted to engage in sexual relationships with staff members.

“Congressman Gonzales has said he will fully cooperate with the investigation. We have encouraged him to address these very serious allegations directly with his constituents and his colleagues. In the meantime, Leadership has asked Congressman Gonzales to withdraw from his race for re-election,” the statement said.
Infidelity and the GOP will never cross paths! Of course, this doesn't mean he is resigning. His moral decay only makes him unsuitable to serve another term, not have to resign immediately.

Actually, looking this one up, the 23rd district is one of those potential flip districts (due to Trump and a potential blue tsunami). It is a +6 R as they tried to gerrymander around San Antonio, but this could end up being an actual loss for the GOP.

I wonder why this doesn’t outrage those individuals whining about voter fraud.
Also wonder if these Republican scumbags intentionally cheat and get caught, to provide examples of what they say they want to prevent.
$5k fine. For a Party official blatantly cheating in an election? Should get 20 years in the slammer.

Something tells me this guy is going to be a lightning rod for bad legislation in the next few months, so he can take the bad rap and then be flushed.

Elixir, I'm not sure why the eye roll?

This is the go-to. We blame Bush and Nixon and Reagan and Trump, but the reality is that they are just the corny capstones on a whole plaza of pyramids and monuments of and to shit.

Unless you shovel the whole shit mountain, the point of that capstone being there is to make you think something has changed when it's gone.

I’m skeptical of anything beyond a theatrical appearance of accountability for most of these actual opponents of American democracy.

I saw an article from the Heritage Foundation or maybe Cato that analyzed voter fraud cases and the vast majority of those guilty whose party affiliation was known was Republicans.

I haven't been able to find it again and I suspect the article was removed.

There's also this from Heritage:

Boudman, a Democrat, will now represent a historically conservative district — encompassing Wolfeboro, Ossipee, and Tuftonboro — that favored President Donald Trump in 2024 by 9 percentage points. Boudman previously lost to Glenn Cordelli — whose resignation in November sparked the special election — in 2024 by roughly 14%. In 2022, Boudman lost to Cordelli by roughly 13%.

A truly frightening interview with Senator Mark Warner, a member of the intelligence committee, on Trumps plans for the mid term elections.

Less than 7 minutes long.

These mid-tem elections - are they run or held in the same way as a presidental election?
Same rules (such as they are) apply or different rules?
Same groups run them or other groups?
Is it just your upper or lower houses or both?
These are elections for the US Congress, and they are done using the same rules as in Presidential-election years. House: every member for 2 years, Senate: 1/3 of the members for 6 years. Senators are in three classes: I: year 6n+2, II: year 6n+4, III: year 6n (6n+6).

State and local elections will also occur on the same ballot. Because there is so much focus on presidential elections many local elections get short-shifted despite those potentially having greater impact on voters’ day-to-day lives.

(Jasmine Crockett)
Hot Wheels is a line of toy cars.
I know what it is.
That does not change the fact Ratchet Crockett was making fun of Abbott being in a wheelchair when she called him that.
Which is, of course, the kind of thing to which you are famously deeply opposed.

:rolleyesa:

These forth coming elections will be ones that I will pay more attention too than usual.

So, Sen. Cassidy is third in the Republican primary for US Senate in Louisiana. Yeah... the GOP isn't a cult. Cassidy voted to convict the the guy who led a mob to riot at the Capitol on January 6th.

The more liberal Platner is crushing moderate Governor Mills at the moment in the polls for the Democrat place to challenge Sen. Collins. Platner is also crushing Collins in the polls as well. But Collins has pulled off a victory last time, when a Democrat won the Presidency too!

California Governor primary looks like maybe Becerra v Hilton.

Collins is leading in Georgia to challenge Ossoff. This is one of the "easy" GOP pickups, which would be very helpful in maintaining a Senate majority. Collins has been in the House since 2023. So... not that long.

In 2026, we have a few things of interest.
  • Are there elections?
  • Are there fair elections?
  • Will the results be accepted?
  • If a Democrat majority is elected, are they actually seated in January 3rd, 2027 or are the seats contested?
These are newer issues for our democracy that hasn't been a thing before.

As things stand usually, the White House has a bad election in mid-terms. It is just a thing. Iran and its impact on the economy has dropped Trump's approval to the very low 30s. Trump is bragging about the BBB, but people will know just how much of a difference it actually made to them, not as much as it was sold as. The economy won Trump the election in 2024. He has poorly impacted the economy (something that usually isn't possible). So a partisan tsunami is in the making. The size of said tsunami is uncertain. We are well out from the election. We aren't certain if the gerrymandering will limit the wave or actually increase it.

Also, the Democrats have no money. But money isn't as important as public sentiment. The economy wasn't awful in 2024, but the people thought it was. It is worse now and directly because of Trump's actions. But all of this doesn't matter if the election(s) are contested in court.
