2026 Mid-Term Elections

I am making sure the cars are fully fueled up this weekend. By the middle of next week, the US President will stop bothering to desparately depress the oil price by any and all possible means, and when the lid comes off, the current price of oil might look like an absolute bargain.

Of course, it is also possible that the US President is so incredibly incompetent that when he stops trying to push the oil price lower, it will actually fall. So this could be a losing strategy on my part.

[Trump's jet vs. Abdulrahman's Muslim Brotherhood support]
AES accepted funding from a PAC of his MB father in law, and he spoke at the Islamist conference (ISNA) that also featured pro-terrorism speakers.
He published an oped and signed a letter supportive of MB takeover of Egypt.
And he was part of the leadership of the MSA (Muslim Student Association) which is, like ISNA, also affiliated with MB.
The Muslim Brotherhood's U.S. Network

And btw, has that image you posted photoshopped Abdulrahman's beard? Because it looks way more patchy/uneven in real life.

Do not forget to saddle the roos too.

It is really BS. What is happening in Alaska is wrong and there shouldn't be two Dan Sullivans on the ballot. The local courts ruled on this though. I disagree with it, but they've ruled. I've had to swallow many court decisions I have disagreed with. Are the GOP special and they don't need to abide by the Courts.... rhetorically I mean.

The GOP whining about fairness in this election is so hypocritical. This maneuver in Alaska is to Al Franken Mary Peltola, so they might be able to maintain a "majority" in the Senate without actually winning one while they tie this up in court for months.
You need a Count Binface on your ballots.

This is a bullshit statement. The Muslim Brotherhood won an election, they didn't "takeover" Egypt. The Military allowed the overthrow of Mubarak. The Military allowed the election to take place. The Military allowed the Muslim Brotherhood to assume power after having won the election. When it was deemed by the Military that the MB was incompatible with Egypt (preordained or via MB's) actions, the Military no longer allowed them to be in power.
And he was part of the leadership of the MSA (Muslim Student Association) which is, like ISNA, also affiliated with MB.
He was in fucking college. Jesus, what were you like in college? The only adult among a sea of people that knew enough to be real dumb?

Fuck! If we were constrained to what we could do based on what we thought while in college...

Trump and the Republican Party are making a lot of noise about investigating the candidacy of Petersburg resident Dan Sullivan. Meanwhile, a felon serving a 20 year sentence in New York who was apparently recruited by Republicans to draw votes away from the Democrat Party's candidate for the House of Representatives remains on the ballot, and neither Trump nor his minions has a single word to say about it.

Partisan attempts to manipulate ballots are nothing new.

Ahead of Alaska’s U.S. Senate primary in August, the Republican-aligned Fair Deal Alaska super PAC spent large sums of money to support Democrat Carol Hafner and Green Party candidate Richard Grayson in an attempt to draw votes away from Peltola. Both Hafner and Grayson are fringe candidates who don’t live in Alaska.

During the 2024 U.S. House race, in which then-Rep. Peltola lost to Republican challenger Nick Begich, Republicans in Alaska supported the candidacy of spoiler candidate Eric Hafner — a Democrat who is serving a prison sentence outside Alaska — to also draw votes from Peltola. He is the son of Carol Hafner.

Eric Hafner ran as a Democrat in this year's statewide primary and advanced to the general election when the fourth place finisher dropped out of the race. Something similar happened when he ran in 2024. He came in sixth and was elevated to fourth when two Republican candidates dropped out to consolidate the Republican voting bloc. When the Democrats tried to get Hafner removed because 1) he's not an Alaska resident and 2) was serving a 20 year sentence in an out of state prison and therefore couldn't have taken office, the Alaska Republican Party fought to keep him on the ballot, even going so far as to file a brief to the Alaska Supreme Court to support his candidacy.

The political contrast with Hafner's case is nevertheless striking. Two years ago, the Alaska Republican Party argued that Democrats could not show irreparable harm simply because Hafner might compete with Peltola for votes. The party argued that ranked-choice voting allowed Alaskans to choose among the candidates and said the Democratic Party was effectively asking the court to protect Peltola electorally.

Republicans are now objecting to Sullivan Jr.'s presence in a close Senate race against Peltola, while Trump has repeatedly argued that the two similar names could confuse voters.

In this year's Alaska Senate race, the Peltola campaign is pointing to Fair Deal Alaska, a Republican-aligned super PAC that spent money supporting lesser-known candidates who could draw votes from Peltola.

Federal Election Commission filings show Fair Deal Alaska received $850,000, most of it from the Senate Leadership Fund, a major Republican super PAC.

Fair Deal Alaska financially backed two people who could draw votes from Peltola: Carol Hafner, her fellow Democrat and Eric Hafner's mother, and Green Party candidate Richard Grayson, an Arizona resident who said he was running "for fun." The Republican-aligned super PAC also spent money opposing Peltola.

The Peltola campaign has portrayed that spending, together with Republicans' defense of Eric Hafner's place on the 2024 ballot, as evidence of a double standard in the backlash to Sullivan Jr.

It is an unethical as heck, but this already went through the courts. Already has been ruled on. Alaska Supreme Court said this stands. It isn't against the law. I think it should be considered being made against the law, but this has been litigated already. SCOTUS has typically let the states stand pat (except in 2000).

Not only does Republican Dan Sullivan have "(Republican)" next to his name on the ballot, but also Alaska has rank choice voting. Anyone who could possibly still be confused seem to be people half asleep or with dementia.

I actually love it. Republicans have been doing this dirty trick for years. To see them whine and cry about it when done against them is delicious.

One Republican went to jail for doing it because he paid the person to get on the ballot. That is illegal.

Yep. I don’t like this. But yea, republicans invented this. It’s like Republicans complaining about democratic Gerrymandering!

Today on degrees of certainty

What do we know?

What do we imply as reasonable to assume?

What do the polls tell us to assume while holding back with historical context.

What is the glass ceiling of unreasonable optimism?

Pencils down. Polls are done, for the most part. Now we wait for Election Day... hope nothing insane happens this weekend... and the votes are decisive enough to determine winners.
