2026 Mid-Term Elections

In 2026 it is higher prices, gas/diesel prices through the roof, and data centers that are driving the "independents" and Iran has really flummoxed the younger Trump voter that thought they were voting for X (formerly Twitter) and found out they got jackshit back in follow through.
FTFY.

Why is someone who doesn't live in Michigan so obsessed with a candidate for the Senate in Michigan. Why are so many people obsessed with Muslims when they make up less than 2% of the US population? I'd take Dr. El Sayed any day over any Republican. He's a bright, intelligent person who has done good things in public health. He may have spoken at some radical Muslim group when he was in college, but for fuck's sake, don't we usually change once we reach full adulthood. I hope the Dems win all their elections regardless if they would be my first choice or not.

Anyone with a working brain should be concerned about the movement to establish a Christian theocracy, not a few Muslims in office.

It's incredibly savy politics. Rather than focus on what people want (lowering inflation, tarriffs, war, Russia, Iran, corruption) the right wants to focus on meanie trans men in the WNBA, Muslim Brotherhood, Islamic terrorists, communism, and etc. It is very smart politics. And its working...
Based on what I've read, it doesn't seem to be working that well this year. People are fed up with the felon and the economy. While the hard core cultists still believe his lies, those who stupidly voted for him in 2024, as well as those who didn't vote and most independents have had it with Trump.

If it was working, El Sayed would not have raised a huge amount of money this past weekend.

People are fed up with the felon and the economy.
You can only steal, or have fun blowing shit up with, another person’s money before that person begins to say “hey what happened to my money?” Seems like we might be at that point, for some.
A mighty expensive lesson, and most of the bill has yet to come due.
El Sayed would not have raised a huge amount of money this past weekend.
Saw that! It was one of the best things I’ve heard lately.

Regarding tomorrow night. There is one issue... Alaska is on the wrong side of the country and polls close at tomorrow! So, in order to go to bed happy, we really need it wrapped up before Alaska.

The Democrats:
  • 34 seats not up for election
  • 9 of the seats up for election are super safe (up to 43)
    • If any one of them goes red, you don't need to stay up late.
    • At 43. need 8 to 9 more seats.
  • North Carolina and Georgia appear to be a done deal. (up to presumed 45)
    • Again, if either one of them fails, change the channel.
  • 11 states remains
    • 8 polls are showing very competitive (AK, IA, KS, ME, MI, MN, OH, TX) , 4 polls are showing exist (MT, NE, SC SD)
    • Democrats need 6 for 51, 7 for Fetterman proof.
  • At 7 PM, we should see how South Carolina managed. If Graham wins decisively, then temper expectations. If it is truly too close to call in the Exit Polling then very optimistic.
  • By 8 PM we should know if there is a chance. GA and NC come in much closer and OH is 50/50 to Husted up by 3 pts, then more hope than rational thought for the remainder of the night.
    • If the Dems have gone 4 for 4 (don't hold your breath), giddy time!
  • The absolutely earliest Dems could hit the magic 6 or 7 number is 9:00 PM. Once the Exit Polls are out, we should know who won.
  • In order to know by 9 PM, need to win almost all of the competitive ones, minus the heck has frozen over states (MT, NE, SC, SD). Hopefully we know by 9 PM, because Alaska a long way off and Montana is a huge ask.

In my opinion, Trump spent too much time talking about male ass, both in my state and in NC, where neither of the pols he promoted are ahead. He's got one more night, and I think he needs to go full frontal. He's been there before, telling steamy stories about Arnold Palmer in the shower room. I think he should go on the air at 8 p.m. and just work his base into a lather over the phallic MAGA talent roster.

"I told you about Jon Husted's ass, how it's a pile of muscle, but I have since heard from many many people who showered with him that he's got one mighty baseball bat in front. It's big, it's veiny, and he will use it like a battering ram to knock the woke bastards out of Ohio for good.

"And Texas. Let's talk about Texas. Little Talarico doesn't have enough down there to get it out of his shorts when he takes a wee. He literally has to hunt for it. But Ken Paxton, my God, they say down in Texas that he's got a raging bull in his BVDs. You're not supposed to say that. That can end your career. But Ken has ploughed a lot of cowgirls, from Amarillo down to Brownsville, and each one of 'em is a satisfied customer.

"And my friend Mike Collins in Georgia -- he's up against little Jon Ossoff. That's what they call him, 'Little'. Let me tell you, Mike's packing one hell of a custard cannon. It's got veins like extension cords. It's a monster. It's got a head on it like the biggest strawberry you ever saw, on top of the biggest slice of chocolate cake you saw in your life. Georgia, you just gotta grab hold of it.

"In Virginia, we're rooting for General Bert, and I can't say his last name, but I'll try -- Matzubaba...no...Mitsubishi? Shit, no. Macarena? Natalie, what the hell is his name? Mizusawa, she says. Natalie, how big is his purple python? She's shaking her head, like she doesn't know what I mean. Folks, a vote for General Bert is a vote for his one-eyed cervix seeker. He will shoot loads all over your state. Loads of good old American values, and in the best color, white.

"Tonight you have a choice, America. You can go Democrat, which means you go back to old sleepy and very limp Joe Biden. Or you can join my movement, which is surging, muscular, juicy, hard as steel, and brings joy to the women. I love women. Just like I love black men. And you know what, we're winning already, you can hear those voting machines going MAGA, bing bong, bing bing bong."

See, this is the stuff I do from time to time, satire. It keeps one sane. My only suggestion is to recall that John Ossoff is referred to by MAGGOTS as John Jackoff. Also a pencil-necked geek.

I have a thread proposing a monthly IIDB magazine but no one has responded. If we did such a mag we could use your satire. :)

Can you please document these long term consequences now so that we might compare them to future events should he win, please?
The damage he can do by himself is limited. However, his win in a purple state will make a DSA-like candidate in 2028 more likely to succeed. Furthermore, his win as well as Hamawy's almost certain win in NJ-it will further electing Islamists to office on a Democratic platform.
Like you did for Mamdani in NYC, no?
He hasn't been in power long enough to know all long term consequences, but you can Higher taxes, he is fighting against any immigration enforcement, and
He is also still a rabid Israel hater. He demonstratively stayed away from Israel Day celebrations, but attended Pakistan Day, even though the latter country has a much worse human rights record. But they are Muslim, so they are ok with Zohran.

Drop Site News is reporting that two people on Mike Rogers' campaign are registered foreign agents working for Israel. One of them is his campaign spokesperson, Abigail Ronson. She used to work for House Speaker Mike Johnson.

No wonder Derec is so invested in the Senate race in Michigan.

I wish we had a second party that made it possible to vote for the other side not a dagger in one's own back.
Proportional representation in the House would go a long way to legitimize smaller parties. The big drawback is that in a parliamentary system this fragmentation can lead to a difficulty forming stable coalitions. See Israel, but increasingly also Germany. That said, US would not have such a problem because we have a presidential system, with the executive not serving at the pleasure of Congress. I think it will reduce gridlock in the House too - no party would have an outright majority most of the time, so they could not block legislation by themselves - there would always need to be cooperation. But that's a different discussion altogether.
It won't be easy. I don't think Collins is losing Maine.
The Lumberjack may not be toxic like oyster farmer LARPer Platner, but is he really the best Maine Democratic Party could come up with?
Most of the DSA candidates have lost.
Way too many have won. Even particularly noxious ones like Adam Hamawy and Aliza Chevalier. In the case of Hamawy, he won the nomination with <30% of the vote, showing just how flawed our primary process is.
El Sayed winning in Michigan is more of a sign of just how bad the Trump Admin has been.
Realistically, AES would not have a good chance of winning in a normal year, yes. But you can bet that ay DSA-candidates will use AES winning MI as a reason why they should be the Democratic nominees for 2028.
He isn't poison like Paxton is, but he worries too many people. But gas/diesel prices are driving people to the polls.
Which is ironic, because it is left-wing Democrats who wanted to gut domestic oil production 2 presidential cycles ago.
Where Democrats stand: Would you ban fracking?
Rogers will support the same people like Alito, Thomas, Scalia who think gay rights, voting rights, women's rights are in poor taste with the Constitution.
I am not a Rogers supporter either. But I think AES is worse long term, especially if Dems win a Senate majority without him.
ROTFLMFAO.
Why is that so silly? Maybe not a SCOTUS justice right at first; however, Senators recommend people to the president to be nominated as federal district and circuit judges. I can definitely see him recommending some Islamist lawyer from Dearbornistan or Hamtramckabad whom he knows from ISNA.
Your posts are misogynistic and bigoted and you waving an Israeli flag as defense mechanism is just vulgar.
My posts are neither. You are confusing me with WIkipedia vandals who called Stevens "Israeli bitch" just because she didn't endorse Abdulrahman. And also people who are making fun or her and her husband's looks.

“Custard cannon” is one I haven’t seen before.

Ah, the old "camel's nose under the tent" argument.

Did Zohran tell that to you or is that an inference?

Ah, the old "camel's nose under the tent" argument.
And what's wrong with that? It's a real phenomenon.
Did Zohran tell that to you or is that an inference?
Inference, of course, but a reasonable one. Why else would he be ok with Pakistan Day but not Israel Day?

Oh, and one more thing about Rafiq Cardamom: he banned Hansom cabs from NYC. But he is really not the subject of this thread because he is not subject to reelection this year.

Drop Site News is reporting
Dropsite News is a far left and notoriously anti-Israel website. I would take whatever they report regarding Israel with a few dump truck loads of salt.

Are you disputing the facts of the report or just complaining about the outlet reporting them?

Also:
Your posts are misogynistic and bigoted and you waving an Israeli flag as defense mechanism is just vulgar.
My posts are neither. You are confusing me with WIkipedia vandals who called Stevens "Israeli bitch" just because she didn't endorse Abdulrahman. And also people who are making fun or her and her husband's looks.

Since when have you had a problem with making fun of someone's looks?

Are you disputing the facts of the report or just complaining about the outlet reporting them?
Is a reputable source reporting these alleged "facts"? Because DSN is definitely not reputable.
And even if true, what would be wrong with two Rogers staffers being affiliated with Israel? They are our ally.
Since when have you had a problem with making fun of someone's looks?
Depends on the person I guess.

Why is someone who doesn't live in Michigan so obsessed with a candidate for the Senate in Michigan.
Because his win would have nationwide consequences.
Why are so many people obsessed with Muslims when they make up less than 2% of the US population?
They are a much higher proportion of DSA and DSA-adjacent politicians. You have AES, you have Hamawy (who was an associate of a terrorist leader, let's not forget), Avila Chevalier, Ilhan Omar, and several others.
I'd take Dr. El Sayed any day over any Republican.
I wouldn't.
He's a bright, intelligent person who has done good things in public health. He may have spoken at some radical Muslim group when he was in college, but for fuck's sake, don't we usually change once we reach full adulthood.
First of all, college students are mostly adults. Furthermore, he was a leader in the MSA in college, and that group has Islamist connections, including to MB. But that's not where it stops. In med school, he wrote an oped in HuffPo and signed an Arabic language letter, both in support of MB takeover of Egypt. And him speaking at the Islamist conference? Not at college, but this year. Hardly a youthful indiscretion. He also accepted funding from Islamist groups, including through his MB-affiliated father in law.
I hope the Dems win all their elections regardless if they would be my first choice or not.
I hope they win a majority, but without toxic candidates like AES.
Anyone with a working brain should be concerned about the movement to establish a Christian theocracy, not a few Muslims in office.
Both are bad. The question is, why is the Democratic Party ok with being infiltrated and subverted by the likes of El Sayed and Hamawy?

Ah, the old "camel's nose under the tent" argument.
And what's wrong with that? It's a real phenomenon.
Not in this case.
Derec said:

He said his refusal to attend the parade was a protest against the Isreali gov’t actions in Gaza.

Derec said:
Oh, and one more thing about Rafiq Cardamom: he banned Hansom cabs from NYC.
The NYC city council enacted the ban.
