A day without stupid?

Trump Dedicates Golf Trophy to Hurricane Victims
“On behalf of all the people in Texas and all of the people of ― if you look today and you see what’s happening, how horrible it is, but we have it under really great control ― Puerto Rico, and the people of Florida who have suffered over this last short period of time with the hurricanes. I want to just remember them,” Trump said.
“And we’re going to dedicate this trophy to all of those people that went through so much that we love, a part of our great state, really a part of our great nation,”

If I lived in Puerto Rico, I'd be feeling pretty good right now. A trophy? For...me?:horsecrap:
Jebus fucking Christ! Poe was buried a while ago, but now Trump is... OMFG!

I have to look up half of the claims against him to find numerous legitimate sources because they seem so caricatured, so apathetic, so pathetic. The Hill confirms. The alleged quote from Marie Antoinette had better optics.

The Hill said:
"On behalf of all of the people of Texas, and all of the people -- if you look today and see what is happening, how horrible it is but we have it under really great control -- Puerto Rico and the people of Florida who have really suffered over this last short period of time with the hurricanes, I want to just remember them," the president said.

"And we're going to dedicate this trophy to all of those people that went through so much that we love -- a part of our great state, really part of our great nation," he continued.

Trump's remarks were made as he presented the trophy to U.S. captain Steve Strickler following the Presidents Cup golf tournament in New Jersey.

An empty cup. How fitting.

Sad that it takes a massacre to get a day without stupid, assuming I didn't miss something.

I know a couple of people who raise chickens. Anyone in road work? And anyone in trains? And any ideas on how we can get the Secret Service apply the appropriate treatment?

Taipei sits in a similar location to New Orleans. Whenever there's a typhoon they're fine. Why? Because of a strong central government capable of planing. Everybody knew it would come sooner or later. New Orleans kept putting it off to next year, in favour of short term investments. Taipei didn't.

Yeah, my wife is from Shanghai. Typhoons come, a lot of rain, a lot of wind, the streets are very wet, no big deal.

Well, in just about every US coastal city that the Navy ever stationed me in, the drainage system seemed to be that the city designers shrugged and said, "Well, the tide goes out eventually..."

Until they get a bit one, and the it Isn't. There's great variance of where its the worst because of the geography. Every 10 years they're more violent, and then every 40-50 years there's a "super typhoon" that destroys everything in a limited area.

There's a lot of similarities with New Orleans. Same same

Is it also protected by an inadequate flood protection system?

I would expect most of the structures in Shanghai to shrug off even a force 5 with little damage other than perhaps glass breakage (and consequent water damage) due to overpressure. The structures themselves are almost all basically big concrete boxes, the wind isn't going to harm them.

From the transcript of Trump's remarks in Puerto Rico:

I want to thank the Coast Guard.

They are special people. A lot of people got to see the real Coast Guard in this trouble. In Texas was incredible for what they did. Thank you very much. We appreciate it. We would like to say something on behalf of your men and women.

UNIDENTIFIED: I'm representing the Air Force.

TRUMP: I know that.

That whole thing was a metaphorical train wreck that was worse than an actual train wreck with tar sands oozing into the Mississippi River. Jebus! Trump is level with W on speaking ability, but has W beat by a long margin on self-congratulatory speech.

Last night, Fragilego Mussolini was talking with Geraldo about Puerto Rico's debt:

“We have to look at their whole debt structure,” Trump said. “They owe a lot of money to your friends on Wall Street. We’re going to have to wipe that out. That’s going to have to be -- you know, you can say goodbye to that. I don’t know if it’s Goldman Sachs but whoever it is, you can wave goodbye to that.”

Surprise...the bonds tanked! What a great business mind this guy has, right?

So the White House budget director had to contradict his boss:

Mulvaney said Wednesday that the administration is devising an aid package to send to Congress that will deal with rebuilding and repair.

“We are not going to bail them out,” he said. “We are not going to pay off those debts. We are not going to bail out those bond holders.”

I think you are being too hard on Trump. If he knows one thing, it is being indebted to Wall Street.

Several organisations are pouring aid in to Hurricane Harvey. The Democrats and Republicans agreed US$22 billion. I would have thought we could see posts about the progress in this matter. More is being spent. Good to see the parties cooperating.

In addition several organisations have donated generously. Funding has also been pouring into Puerto Rico re Hurricane Irma. Both were huge disasters.

Hurricane Maria is what devastated Puerto Rico. Hurricane Irma hit Florida with especially severe damage to the lower Keys
