There has been an active shooter incident at the West Hempstead Stop & Shop. Police are canvassing the area & schools nearby have been notified to lock down and secure their buildings. @NassauCountyPD is asking all area residents to remain indoors. Suspect is not yet apprehended.

Just a handgun - no biggie. But I figured we needed a thread for the daily shootings.

The shooter was only 20?! This felt like a grown adult male in his 40's feel.

Shooting people is obviously a bad thing. But targeting firefighters? People who willingly run into burning buildings to save lives. I just don't get that.

That's kinda why I assumed the shooter was either young, drug addled*, or both.

Shootings with two dead are sadly a dime a dozen. For example, in my city just last weekend.

Of course, the death toll of these urban shootings would be higher if most of the perps weren't such lousy shots. Example from NYC:

It doesn't necessarily "start at home". Shooters typically have siblings that aren't shooters.

And plenty of families have joy with firearms and people don't become shooters.

To be honest, Derec, I kind of assume you’ll be the person posting about mass shootings.

And again, being perfectly honest, I find gun violence to be reprehensible and indefensible but right now, I’m much more worried about the US becoming a fascist state. And about people I know and love being in danger because of Psycho Donny and his white nationalist Nazis and sympathizers .

I only have so much time for outrage and so I’ll leave the shootings to you to keep track of

Yeah, the people shooting up schools are the romantically inept children of conservative white families, for the most part, trained in blaming others for their failures.

If the GOP were to do something about that, they would lose out on future voters.

The Uvalde school shooting was done by someone of Hispanic origin IIRC.
