Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

Daniel Newhauser on Twitter: "UPDATE: @AOC tells me, “the fact that Republicans were more offended at acknowledging racism than they are at the racism itself speaks volumes for who they're fighting for in America” https://t.co/zbDMmcNOKr" / Twitter noting
Republicans Won't Call Trump Racist — But One Said White People Are “People of Color” – VICE News
GOP lawmakers on both sides of Capitol Hill grudgingly defended the president’s tweets and comments that their four nonwhite Democratic colleagues should “go back” to where they came from, that they “hate our country” and claims that they’re “pro-terrorist” on Tuesday.

Those unwilling to defend the comments mostly ducked and dodged questions, diving for elevators to avoid reporters. And even those who offered tepid criticism weren’t eager to do anything about it.

But they furiously sprang into action when Pelosi described the “president's racist tweets” on the House floor, forcing a vote to get her words stricken from the Congressional Record as they claimed it was banned by House rules.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Twitter: "The good news in getting Trump to explicitly vocalize his racism, instead of hiding it behind vague suggestions, is that his words can be used by courts as evidence of his motivation.
AKA his tweets may be used to dismantle his own immigration policies 😇 https://t.co/bKrZewfYN7" / Twitter

Trump’s racist comments can be used against him in court as judges cite them to block policies - The Washington Post
His words — about Mexican immigrants as “criminals, drug dealers” and “rapists,” Nigerians going back “to their huts,” Haitians all having AIDS, or of too many migrants from “shithole countries” — have helped stall much of Trump’s immigration crackdown.

It hasn’t been any particular comment that has made the difference in court but rather the accumulation of them.

Some right-wingers are gloating about this video of her gardening:

Bloomberg TicToc on Twitter: ".@AOC called Facebook "a publishing platform, an advertising network, a personal telecommunications network, a surveillance corporation, a content distributor” at the House's hearing on the Libra cryptocurrency #LibraInDC https://t.co/lbLdH6Bnup" / Twitter
Which Facebook wants to introduce. More evidence of Gilded Age II -- the economy dominated by a few big businesses like in the first Gilded Age.

Public Citizen on Twitter: ".@AOC: Currently Libra's governed by Facebook, Uber eBay, Spotify, Visa… Were they democratically elected? Facebook’s Crypto Chief: No, Congresswoman. AOC: So we're discussing a currency controlled by an undemocratically selected coalition of largely massive corporations. https://t.co/ks5XbagGWg" / Twitter - not sure what democracy would mean in this context. I'm guessing something like some organization separate from Facebook but where Facebook and other participating companies would form its governing body.

She also asked about whether currencies in general and Libra in particular are public goods. She got a lot of evasion, and she concluded "no".

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Twitter: "Scrip was used by Appalachian coal corporations to control workers by controlling their money - it was called “coal cash.” It was used by sugar plantation bosses in PR, too.
Facebook establishing its own currency & teaming up with EBay, Uber & co to do so has alarming precedent. https://t.co/40OEJBqnST" / Twitter
noting
AFR on Twitter: ".@AOC: You said you’d be open to accepting 100% of your pay in #Libra. There’s a term for being paid in a corporate-controlled currency. Do you know what that term is? Marcus: No AOC: It’s called scrip. https://t.co/AlsmIlvSR9" / Twitter
It has the big problem of conflict of interest. A commenter noted Company Towns w/ The Trillbillies │ Means TV - YouTube -- the bad old days of paying people in script, funny money that could only be used in company stores and the like.

She had earlier tweeted Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Twitter: "Company money is a tactic powerful corporations use to take over towns & control local workers by paying them in fake “currency.”
It’s happened all over, from West Virginia coal mines to Puerto Rican sugar plantations.
So what about when people get paid in... Amazon gift cards? https://t.co/6z5U2XkAtE" / Twitter

Actress Of Course -- some right-wingers are calling her an actress who was recruited by some people who have carefully stayed behind the scenes.

Libra is a cryptocurrency that Facebook plans to introduce. What is cryptocurrency?

Humanity has used lots of kinds of money, starting with payment-in-kind, something for something. Some items then became used a lot for exchanges, making commodity money: gold, cigarettes, lots of other things. Paper money started out as IOU's for commodities like precious metals, and it eventually became fiat money, money decreed into existence. To keep track of transactions, businesses have long used accounting ledgers. Originally on paper, they now live in computers. In fact, much money now has that form.

Cryptocurrency is essentially accounting ledgers with digital signatures to make them tamper-proof. They are often implemented with "blockchains", a series of blocks of transactions, with each block having a digsig. The digsig algorithm is designed to make it much harder to find a digsig value than to verify it.

The first cryptocurrency was Bitcoin, and it is still the most successful one. Over a thousand cryptocurrencies have been released, with varying degrees of success.

My first thought about Libra was: does the world need another cryptocurrency? What is so special about Libra?

I think Libra is the 21st coupon. It's to be pegged to a "basket" of currencies to give it stability, not with its own market like bitcoin. Sounds to me like Facebook is exploiting the trend of crypto currencies to take a piece of FB users shopping.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Twitter: "The GOP Senate needs to stop playing games and pass the 9/11 Victim’s Compensation Fund.

Fits in very well with Arthur Schlesinger's cycles of history. We are in a conservative phase, Gilded Age II, and AOC and others are trying to end it.

Eric Trump: ‘95 percent’ of Americans agree with my father - POLITICO
Quoting Prince Eric:
“He is willing to fight, and I’ve said this time and time again, but America didn’t have a fighter for administrations — by the way, both on the Republican and Democratic side. We haven’t had somebody in there fighting,” Eric Trump told Fox News’ “Fox & Friends,” pointing to his father’s efforts not just on rewriting trade deals and curbing immigration, but also on culture-war issues like flag burning and standing for the national anthem.

“My father is in there, and he’s fighting every single day. And he has to fight against the media. He has to fight against these lunatics. And guys, I’m telling you, 95 percent of this country is behind him in this message. I mean, people love this nation.”
He then went on to defend "love it or leave it".

Eric Trump Ironically Calls Minority Congresswomen 'Most Hate-Filled Group' | HuffPost
Eric Trump went on “Fox & Friends” to defend Donald Trump after the president told four nonwhite House members to “go back” to other countries.

...
“This is the most hate-filled group I have ever seen before,” Eric Trump said during a Wednesday morning segment on “Fox & Friends.”

“They’re letting ICE offices get stormed and have the American flag ripped down and have the Mexican flag put up,” he falsely added, then repeating a common and inaccurate attack on the women: “They say anti-Semitic things every single day.”
They are not the ones who shout "Jews will not replace us!"
“They’re not getting anything done,” Eric Trump said earlier in the segment. “If anybody thinks differently than them, if anybody looks different than them, if anybody acts different, if anybody has different beliefs or thoughts — they have no message, so what do they go do? ‘You’re a racist! You’re a this, you’re a that!’”

He attempted to pivot by saying that the country has “the greatest economy” and the “lowest unemployment,” so the four congresswomen should be happy. If they’re not happy, he added, they should simply “get out.”

“I love the tweet,” Eric Trump said of the president’s Twitter rant. “If you don’t love our country, get out. Leave.”
Like father like son, it seems.

Well, Trump, go back where you came from.

And tell your parents not to butt-fuck without a condom.

That is disingenuous. Those later tweets were separate and after backlash for the first tweet. Therefore, the first tweet has to be looked at independently. You already know this. Even taking into account an "...and you can come back," damage control addendum, it doesn't take away identifying natural born citizens
Ilhan Omar at least is not a natural born citizen. And she is very antisemitic, yet gets a pass for it because she is on the Left

Why does the left claim that any criticism of the "Squad" (aka horse's asses of the Apocalypse) is due to their skin color and not their politics. Not just in reference to these tweets, but also say in this thread AOC's skin color is used to deflect criticism.

"The Squad" interview: Gayle King's full conversation with AOC, Omar, Pressley & Tlaib - YouTube - nice interview with these four Representatives.

Ayanna Pressley stated that her district has a lot of immigrants, and a lot of people there are afraid of ICE raids. I recall AOC once stating that about her district also. AOC stated in that interview that she was elected to shake things up, that she does not want to be in the pay of lobbyists, dependent on what they want.

If they are afraid of ICE raids then they are not just 'immigrants', they are illegal immigrants. There is a difference. Why shouldn't illegals be deported?

You don't have to be an illegal immigrant to be hassled by ICE There are plenty of You Tube vdeos of people, obviously not immigrants being hassled by border patrol agents many miles from the border. You can be fair game for these jerks 100 miles from a border.

https://reason.com/2015/04/01/recording-abusive-border-patrol-conduct/

So when the Orange Asshole unleashes a swarm of asshole ICE agents on America it is not like we don't have reason to worry. I'd worry too.

The circus will be over soon anyway. Only 22% of AOC's district supports her. It's even worse for Ilhan Omar's district: 9% support her.

They can't even get support from their own districts! Pretty soon they'll be gone and their dumb ideas and policies will fade away.

Leftists are fuming now because a black republican Jamaican immigrant woman is challenging AOC in 2020! And we all know one thing leftists hate: black conservative women.

“There is a crisis in Queens, and it’s called AOC,” Murray told Fox News. “And instead of focusing on us, she’s focusing on being famous. Mainly rolling back progress and authoring the job-killing Green New Deal and killing the Amazon New York deal.”

But, she doesn't believe in climate change. She still flies in planes. Just like Al Gore had 8 SUV's and multiple mansions and private jets. "Concerned about climate change" indeed.

Yeah, Scherie Murray is so likely to beat AOC, you even forgot to mention her name. And the article points out a history consistently losing in every public office she has run for. So yeah, she has a great chance of winning in a District that has been Democrat for nearly thirty years with the incumbent nearly three quarters of the vote last time. Scherie Murray is the new Allan Keyes of the Republican Party.

Even if AOC lost, it won't matter much. And it will still be a big if. We do have a miserable Senate majority leader who has a 25% approval rating. He's very likely to eat it big in 2020, and become history. A political obstructionist and political suicide bomber. and that will indeed matter.

But, she doesn't believe in climate change. She still flies in planes. Just like Al Gore had 8 SUV's and multiple mansions and private jets. "Concerned about climate change" indeed.
She herself has addressed that conundrum. She does that because that's what she's stuck with.

Let's see what her options are.

She lives in apartments in both NYC and DC, so she'd have to convince her landlords to put solar panels on the apartment buildings' roofs. But that is not likely to supply a good fraction of the electricity used by the buildings' inhabitants. So it will be necessary to build wind and solar farms in nearby rural areas and in the nearby ocean.

For transport, she can drive an electric car. But she will not have much opportunity to choose an electric taxi. The NYC-DC Amtrak trains are all electric, but Amtrak trains to most other places aren't, and buses aren't either. Electric airplanes are impractical. So for most of these vehicles, synthetic fuels will be necessary.

So she must promote wind energy, solar energy, storage systems, and synfuels.

AOC on Twitter: More social media traffic than any Democrat candidate
For the week that ended on Sunday, Ocasio-Cortez, known as AOC, had attracted 4.8 million such interactions, NewsWhip said. By comparison, all of the Democrats running for president reached a combined 6.5 million. California Sen. Kamala Harris had 1.2 million to lead the way, with Sen. Bernie Sanders, former Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Elizabeth Warren getting around a million each.
