Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

Has anyone ever checked if her degree ain't a fake?
angelo, have you? BTW, the burden of proof is on trying to prove that it is a fake, since most degrees aren't fake.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Goes Back To Bartending With "Desus & Mero" - "The upcoming politician prepared two margaritas and invented a new drink adding Hennessey to the classic Shirley Temple to which they formally named the beverage the Henny-Temple."

Margarita - tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice
Shirley Temple (drink) - "A Shirley Temple is a non-alcoholic mixed drink traditionally made with ginger ale and a splash of grenadine, garnished with a maraschino cherry.[1][2][3][4] Modern Shirley Temple recipes may substitute lemon-lime soda or lemonade and sometimes orange juice in part, or in whole.[5][6]"
Hennessy - a brand of cognac, a kind of brandy

and
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Twitter: "For GOPers who spent this week mocking the poor w/“bootstrap” jokes, why don’t you listen to Ms. Hutchinson’s testimony & give one damn reason why we shouldn’t have an accurate poverty line in this country.
Unless of course you were talking w/o paying attn to the actual hearing. https://t.co/4YCypOfxpB" / Twitter

From earlier:
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Twitter: "I worked my butt off to get elected against all odds, without any special connections or money. I worked double shifts and wore through my shoes, outspent 10:1 to get elected. Even w/ all that hard work, it would be narcissistic to pretend I “bootstrapped” it alone & w/o others." / Twitter
AOC shows MUCH more honesty than all the right-wingers who whine "I didn't need anyone's help".

You are aware of course that people make fake passports every day? I just find it incredible that even a just scraped home to get a degree in economics student could come up with such moronic, insane ideas like a GND!

(AOC and Trump...)
The two are like two sides of the same coin. Or if you prefer, two supposedly opposite ends of a horseshoe that end up being very close together.
What makes them much alike???

"Can you imagine how attending a lavish party at Jeff Bezos's $23 million home -- along with Jared and Ivanka, and the CEO of JPMorgan Chase, Jamie Dimon -- might give off the sense to the public that you are not, in fact, immune from external pressures?" Porter asked Powell during a House Financial Services Committee hearing.
"I would certainly hope not," said Powell.

I also found Democracy Now! on Instagram: “Ahead of the New Hampshire primary, acclaimed artist, activist and writer @mollycrabapple joined us in our New York studio to talk about her experiences and observations on the 2020 campaign trail.” Molly Crabapple worked on AOC's GND video, and she has sketches of Bernie Sanders, AOC(?), and the people there.

You are not too old and it is not too late.

Something we hear from time to time is that our parents or older people in our life can’t be more plant-based because of their “stuck ways”, “they don’t understand”, or “because of cultural differences, they just simply won’t get it.” I thought that too, until my parents started asking more questions and showed them films to prove how they can benefit from a more plant-based lifestyle. During some of our events, we’ve heard how our parents would sneak meat into our foods/shakes or didn’t try at all to cook for or with us. On the other hand, we have also heard some AMAZING stories on how parents and older family members have LOVED being plant-based because you taught them so much! 🗣✨ ALL THIS TO SAY—“you are not too old and it is not too late” to be plant-based. Ever.

For those that have parents or older family members that will like to be a part of Veggie Mijas and possibly host an event for other adults let us know at veggiemijas@gmail.com. 🤠 in the future, I know we have some cool mamas that would love to teach a plant-based recipe for other parents out there—CALLED VEGGIE MAMAS 🎉🌟 so be on the look out for that!

Stand with Striking ASARCO Workers

Nearly 2,000 copper miners remain on strike against Asarco LLC at three open pit mines in southern Arizona, a refinery in Amarillo, Texas and a smelter in Hayden, Arizona.

I am confused. Is she standing with copper miners or does she want to ban mining (and destroy their jobs) because environment like her squad-mate Ilhan Omar?

I am also confused as to what that has to do with veganism...

That was a separate issue.

AOC kicks off reelection campaign in Queens
“We have some really ambitious goals,” she said. “Last election cycle, in the primary as we know, the turnout was quite low … this year, we want to multiply turnout by four times. That’s our goal. We want to secure 60,000 votes in the primary election. We need to start creating a turnout machine right now.”

The challengers are apparently hoping the Democratic establishment in Queens, some of whom have been turned off by AOC, will support an alternative.

Rep. Ocasio-Cortez launches re-election bid, opens Bronx and Queens offices
"This entire space is designed with community in mind, with education in mind, and coming together in mind," she said outside her new Westchester Square office.

She says it's a place to fight for issues like tenants' right, health care, protection of the disabled, homelessness and more.

Ocasio-Cortez wants it to be an organizing base, which she adds, goes beyond re-election.

"I am not interested in just showing up every two years to ask our community for your vote. I am interested in making deep investments in the Bronx and in Queens," said the congresswoman.
Commendable ambition. Looks like she's doing a LOT more for her community than her predecessor Joe Crowley ever did.

The place has a 5-year lease, meaning that AOC is in it for the long term. Not just a campaign space but also a space for lots of different activists.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@aoc) • Instagram photos and videos - she announced the start of her re-election campaign, and she showed off one of her district offices - the new Bronx one?

Allie Horton (@msalliehorton) • Instagram photos and videos - she Instagrammed AOC describing how she has shown that bold campaigning can push the Overton window.

AOC's Bronx campaign office has some nice artwork in it. A map of her district spread over some walls. Some of her GND posters, posters of Pelham Bay and Flushing Meadows. A sort of GND mural.

Hoyer leads Congressional delegation to Puerto Rico | El Nuevo Día - "Alexandria Ocasio Cortez and Nydia Velázquez are part of the group arriving on the island today"
Steny Hoyer leads trip to Puerto Rico amid aid standoff - POLITICO - "The majority leader said the territory has “gotten a pretty raw deal” from the Trump administration."
Rep. Garrett Graves (R-LA) had to pull out.

From Politico,
“I want to give the people of Puerto Rico a clear indication that there are a lot of people who care very deeply about our fellow Americans,” Hoyer said in an interview ahead of the trip. “We still want to make sure that Puerto Rico has the resources it needs.”

Hoyer also hopes the trip can help pressure GOP leaders, who have rejected a Democratic package of nearly $5 billion in post-earthquake aid — the latest partisan clash involving Trump and Puerto Rico in the wake of a long string of natural disasters, including a deadly hurricane that claimed 3,000 lives.

...
“If Puerto Rico was a state, this would have already been done,” Hoyer said, adding that the territory has “gotten a pretty raw deal” from the Trump administration.
On Sunday, the delegation met with top Puerto Rican officials, and then held a press conference. NV and AOC spoke in Spanish there. SH seemed confident that the Puerto Rican government was committed to doing a good job of disaster recovery.

Steny Hoyer on Instagram: “We began our visit to #PuertoRico with a meeting at @FortalezPR with members of the Governor’s Cabinet, @FEMA officials, and Puerto Rico’s Central Office for Recovery, Reconstruction and Resiliency to discuss ongoing 2017 recovery efforts and new issues from recent earthquakes.‬ We discussed our concerns with the pace of the recovery. The government of Puerto Rico is working to ensure transparency and accountability in spending recovery funding, which ought to be recognized by this Administration. I was also glad to hear in our meetings that the changes I led to the Stafford Act are making it easier for FEMA and the government of Puerto Rico to rebuild to more resilient standards that can withstand future storms."

Mariya on Twitter: "“We have a faith in you that we don’t normally have in politicians.” — Ta-Nehisi Coates in conversation with @AOC #MLKNow #MLKDay https://t.co/8ABrcm0PvI" / Twitter

I dug some more into that Micah Faith Leader Breakfast that AOC went to on MLK Day this year, Jan 20. She also had a second conversation with Ta-Nehisi Coates that day, but that was a separate event. The first one was last year.

I found that it was AOC who did the invitations, and that it was about "advancing the values Dr. King amplified in today's time." with "Let's build our community together." AOC's talk in it I'd mentioned earlier. Most of it was about her moral convictions and her activism, something she called her "faith". There was hardly anything that could be called theology, and there was no sacred-book interpretation. Instead, she stated that poverty is not a law of nature, and she pointed to the sort of society depicted in Star Trek.

As to her opposition, I'll try to guess how well each candidate is likely to do. I think that her only serious opposition will be on the Democratic side, given the partisan leaning of her district, so I'll consider Democrats first.

Her biggest threat is IMO Fernando Cabrera, because of his NYC political connections. He is a Pentecostal pastor, a NYC councilmember, and a former Republican.

Next I think is Badrun Khan. She has been involved in community activism for some time, and she likes Andrew Yang.

Michelle Caruso-Cabrera I think is rather unlikely. Her social-left economic-right platform will appeal to some upper-middle-class people, but not many more than that. She also does not have much of a community presence, as far as I can tell.

Jose Velazquez's campaign site has a short blurb about him and a "Coming Soon" button.

James Dillon doesn't have a campaign site.

On the Republican side, the big question is who will win the Republican primary. I'm reluctant to speculate, so I'll try to guess who will win the Fox primary, as it might be called. So I went to Fox News and I counted hits. Since its search engine cannot count phrases as units, I decided to use Google with site:foxnews.com

  • Scherie Murray: 115
  • Fernando Cabrera: 87
  • John Cummings: 35
  • Badrun Khan: 27
  • Ruth Papazian: 25
  • Miguel Hernandez: 20
  • Michelle Caruso-Cabrera, James Dillon: 8
  • Antoine Tucker, Jose Velazquez: 5
  • Jineea Butler: 2
  • Israel Ortega Cruz, Rey Solano: 0
Some of the hits are false positives, it must be noted. But I think that Scherie Murray will win the Republican Fox Primary and Fernando Cabrera the Democratic one.
