Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

It's official. The neoliberals are coming after her. In their condescending piece to the rest of the public, Politico claims AOC is out of touch, isolating herself and risks the party as a whole.

The gloves are almost all the way off. And, I'll mention, that I would not be a bit surprised to learn that neoliberal fingerprints were all over the bathtub thing.

Neoliberals as in those who support laissez-faire economics and free market capitalism?

I agree. They hate her.

Oh come on! Don't let the Russian Bots control your message. I love AOC. Love her brashfullness and willingness to confront the republicans and Fox. I'd personally never vote for a politician who uses twitter or social media to bypass the media. Never. Trumps use of twitter has come close to starting wars, tanking Wall Street, causing havoc with our allies, and etc. His use should be outlawed by congress. Secondly, I'm willing to listen to her and give her a chance. She's too my left - no doubt about that. That's okay. But she has to understand that she was elected in one of the most liberal areas in the country. I don't like her mocking more conservative democrats who come from conservative districts.

^^This^^

I don't mind her hitting back at conservative democrats to an extent. I don't want that to become the story or disunifying. But honestly, I'm beyond sick of old white men telling women to sit down and behave like ladies and that they don't know nothin'. I think she has correctly assessed that if she did sit down and act like a lady and listen to her betters/elders, nothing would ever change and she's about change.

I like that she's energetic and brash and brave. I really like that she seems to be more interested in representing the people that elected her than in serving as a cog in a political machine. She's smart though: she got right behind Pelosi despite dangling the possibility that she wouldn't. I don't always agree with her but that's no different than whether I agree with 100% of the world 100% of the time.

I do worry that twitter will take over too much of her time.

She's doing great. And like most people, her views will change over time. What I hope doesn't change is her independent spirit. Al Franken was told he should be a workhorse rather than a show-horse. So that's what he did, and it worked for him. But for AOC, she better serves as a show horse. We need the old war horses like Pelosi and Schumer, but we also need younger leaders to become well known and eventually be positioned to take over. She has that potential, and she will bear down and do the hard work she needs to do. Hell, she probably already is.

Also, I'm fucking beyond sick of the Dems trying not to piss off the GOP. It doesn't work.

"Oh, don't do that because Fox/Republicans might say..."

Fuck that. They're going to say crazy, made up, exaggerated shit no matter what. So get out there and fucking say what needs to be said.

What are you trying to say?

It might be a good idea to remain up to date on events. You won't like this, but that's one reason I'm sharing it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FQsxeD5Dl8Y

That video is proof that attempts at comedy by those who support conservatives and conspiracy theorists contain no actual comedy. That was shit-drivel.

I shared it because that information has actually been out for a while now, though maybe not in the corp media (I don't recall seeing it on Politico. I don't read NY Times, Wash Post or watch mainstream television). So I have to assume it's not known by those who aren't aware, because 1) they don't read much other than what's fed them, if they read at all, 2) they don't comprehend what they read very well, or 3) they really don't actually give a shit about the actual issues and behave as tools.

How much of it were you aware of?

Meaning what? That the lobbyists and corporate Dems will eventually wear her down?

In the Politico hit piece, one corp Democrat said AOC doesn't understand how things work around there. No, she doesn't like how things work in DC, most of us don't, which is why she was sent there by defeating a corp-dem shit like Crowley.

Do you like how things are done in DC?

Of course Joe Lieberman came out against her. Joementum is a prime example of a problem, not a solution.

AOC points out areas where the Dems resemble Repugs. Dems generally prefer to focus on social
issues.

The problem, for the mainstream Dems, is that AOC is proving talented at fighting back, plus her statements have good populist appeal. She's stealing some of Trump's thunder and embarrassing the Dems at the same time.

I don't see many Dems complaining about AOC?? Absolutely there are dems like myself who are pro-business and economic development and socially liberal. What's wrong with that? The democratic party will need about 9% more votes than the republicans in order beat trump and retain the house. You think that will be easy? I'm sorry but we need moderates and liberals in the dem party to turn back the crazies.

Meaning that you can't win an election in a normal district without a majority of the votes. She'll develop a larger tent strategy if she wants to win. In the meantime, I hope that she continues to not allow Fox to classify her.

You just make this stuff up as you go along, don't you? You certainly have not bothered to read anything that's been posted.

I read the links sometimes (if it's from a trusted source). I'm not going to listen to anyone's you tube propaganda. BTW: you don't like it when confronted by people with differing opinions! AOC has not backed down from Fox news.

A big problem with her in my book:

https://www.mediaite.com/politics/o...h-being-factually-correct-than-morally-right/

She got 4 Pinocchios for her numbers on Pentagon waste and she's saying the facts don't matter, she's on the moral side.

No better than the idiots on the right.

Yeah, I didn't like that "moral" answer. She gets some good lines off on twitter, but she more needs to up her facts game. She doubles down too much when she's wrong, instead of owning it.

She's showing she's a fanatic like the bozos on the right. Fanatics from either side are bad.

I wouldn't say that, she's not that immune to facts.

She's being attacked the same way Hillary Clinton was during the Clinton Administration - relentlessly, mercilessly, and for the most part, ridiculously. She's popular with the up-and-coming demographic that will be voting for the first or second time in 2020. She can communicate clearly and effectively on social media, knows the memes and the lingo, and is very much in touch with the issues that resonate with Progressives.

The Old Guard can't afford to ignore her but desperately wish they could.

Read wiki on democratic socialists. Some of the wording made me cringe. She needs to drift toward center of the spectrum.

I disagree.

She will need to compromise in order to get legislation passed, but she doesn't have to give an inch on which issues she wants to talk about or what she wants to say about them.

I was not talking about her specifically. I was talking about democratic socialism she is supposedly part of. She needs to drift out of it to be closer to Bernie Sanders.

I still disagree.
