Advantage is contextual.

Having a thick powerful tail is an advantage to a fish, shark, otter. But having a thick tail is a detriment to a monkey. But when the jungle burns down or fails to grow, maybe that one monkey with a thick, powerful rudder tail is now the only one able to access the fish in the river for food.
