Of course, the local lefty rag is framing it like this:
New Black Panther Party seeks justice for Dorian Murrell, end of white supremacy
That's a pretty disingenuous way to talk about Dorian Murrell. In reality he and several others committed robberies and a murder before Murrell was shot dead.
Man charged with murder of Chris Beaty on night of downtown riots
So this groups goes around robbing people, killing one. When they tried to attack Newby, he defended himself, killing Murrell.
Back to Indy Star.
It is pretty rich that these black supremacists see "white supremacy" here even though Newby is being unfairly prosecuted.
New Black Panther Party seeks justice for Dorian Murrell, end of white supremacy
Indy Star said:Around 20 people representing the New Black Panther Party (NBPP), Panther Special Operations Command and other Black activists groups convened at the Julia M. Carson Transit Center for a Second Amendment march to Monument Circle early Saturday afternoon against white supremacy and in support for the family of Dorian Murrell.
Last year, the night of May 30, during the riots in downtown Indianapolis, robberies and violence broke out. At around 2 a.m., Murrell, an unarmed teenager, was shot and killed around Pennsylvania and Market streets.
That's a pretty disingenuous way to talk about Dorian Murrell. In reality he and several others committed robberies and a murder before Murrell was shot dead.
Man charged with murder of Chris Beaty on night of downtown riots
Wish TV said:A man has been charged with murdering a man during downtown riots at the end of May. Marcus Anderson, 23, is accused of murdering Chris Beaty, 38, on May 30.

Anderson also faces charges in another case that occurred on the same night.
Anderson and Alijah Jones were accused of pointing a gun and robbing a woman in a parking garage.
Security camera video has shows Anderson and Jones traveling in a group of five on May 30.

In the early morning hours of May 31, another member of their group, 18-year-old Dorian Murrell was shot and killed just east of Monument Circle.
Tyler Newby, 29 at the time, turned himself in for shooting Murrell shortly after.
Newby told investigators that he “felt a hand on his back and then he was shoved from behind and fell to the ground.” When he rolled over, he said someone was standing over him. Newby fired one shot, killing Murrell.
So this groups goes around robbing people, killing one. When they tried to attack Newby, he defended himself, killing Murrell.

How is this this any different than white supremacists shouting "white power"?Indy Star said:Shouts of "Black power" and "all power to the people" led by Corey Goodridge, Murrell's cousin, echoed down the streets. The group — dressed in all black and carrying rifles and Pan-African flags — walked single file down the street, first toward the Indiana Convention Center and then to the circle, which is near the spot Murrell was shot and killed.
Tyler Newby should not have been charged and he certainly should not be convicted. He acted in self defense"We want Tyler Newby convicted for the murder of Dorian Murrell," said Malik Shabazz, an attorney for the NBPP and their former national chairman. "We further want an end to racism and white supremacy in Indianapolis and Indiana."
It is pretty rich that these black supremacists see "white supremacy" here even though Newby is being unfairly prosecuted.
That's bullshit! Of course it matters that Murrell and his good time buddies were robbing people and that they attacked Newby, surely in order to rob him too - or worse. He had a right to defend himself."He's not here to speak for himself. And whatever Dorian did before (the alleged altercation) is not important," Armstrong said. "What's important is what happened to him from the minute he was killed."
Actually, they are both correct here.Bobby Seale, a founding member of the original Panthers, has publicly disavowed the NBPP as "a black racist hate group."
[...]
Shabazz believes that the NBPP is "not really different" than the original Panthers.
He was pushed to the ground by a robbery crew Murrell was a part of. What do they mean that they had no "physical altercation".Witnesses disagree about the exact circumstances leading up to Murrell's death, but according to statements in court documents, Murrell and Newby did not have a physical altercation or even speak to each other before Newby shot him in the heart.
Of course things would be different. Had Newby been black he'd never have been charged. This is a political prosecution. In front of the convention center, several speakers noted how atypical it was for someone who is charged with murder to get out on bond. They believe that if Murrell had been white or Newby Black, the outcome would have been different.
