Assad falls

Do you ever look in the mirror and ask yourself why you do this?
You are cheering up for ISIS and ask me this?

Saying Assad is bad is the same as cheering for ISIS? How pathetic is your “logic”?

But why would you be opposed to ISIS? Their moral outlook is no different from Adolf Putin’s, even if they ground their outlooks in different “philosophies.”

Anyhow, as I’ve already told you, there is no point in you responding to my posts, since I refuse to engage in dialogue with a “person” such as yourself. This brief exception to my rule is just to remind you of this fact.

A “person,” I might add, who supports the wholesale slaughter of innocent civilians in Ukraine, including the mass slaughter of children, and the kidnapping of surviving children to be transported to Russia for indoctrination in the ideology of your wretched and despicable country.

Sky News is reporting that he has fled to Russia, confirmed by Russian state media.

"Assad and his family members have arrived in Moscow. Russia, for humanitarian reasons, has granted them asylum."

Ah yes...nothing says "humanitarian" like a brutal dictator hiding under the skirt of another brutal dictator.
I don't think the replacement will be any better.

Yeah, the one certainty in all of this is that Syria will still be run by arseholes.

No other kind of leader can gain, much less hold, power anywhere in the Middle East.

Some are worse than others; None are good enough to really qualify as "better" though. I suppose it's technically better to be starving, terrified, and subject to arbitrary imprisonment, than it is to be shot at, starving, terrified, and subject to arbitrary imprisonment.

I wonder if any other leaders of “allies” of Russia are sleeping with one eye open.

Indeed. Russia either chose not to help Assad, or were unable to help. Either possibility has to be a huge worry for any regime propped up by Moscow.

My guess is that they are exhausted by the Ukraine conflict, and simply had insufficient resources left to throw at Syria; But if they could have helped, but decided to throw Assad under the bus instead, that's perhaps even worse for the confidence of the leaders of Russian client states.

Assad was bad. The replacement might be worse.
Assad was not really bad. And we know that his replacement WAS very bad becasue he was an ISIS/Al Qaeda leader.
Syria sucked. Ask the locals. But Assad was a stable sucking. And the US/CIA had understandings with Assad. Why the White House isn't jumping for for joy over this. No one really is, except the locals who didn't like Assad. Hopefully things work out in Syria. But we can probably be somewhat certain it won't be great because the new leader isn't going to get money from an International Power to secure the nation. Which means power vacuums in areas. Unless Russia is uber desperate to keep access to the warm water port. If the Muslims in Burma can fight with the Myanmar military, why not Islamic terrorists teaming with Russia?

So much easier to overthrow a nation than to rule a nation, forget rule it competently. US was a nice example of that starting in 2003.

Indeed, though I'd say Syria was the weakest link. Russia couldn't help. They need North Korea's help just to try and take postage stamp sizes of land daily in their Ukraine debacle.

I'd be surprised if they made a deal with the Russian devil, the assholes who have been killing so many Syrian civilians over the years.

As I noted, the Rohingya are fighting alongside the Myanmar military at the moment. So the unexpected isn't definitely not expected to be likely, but not necessarily impossible.

You are cheering for his removal by .... ISIS.
I'm guessing that Israel's successful attack on Hezbollah was a key factor. Not the only one of course, but Assad was brought down by a bunch of forces including Israel.

The leader changed branding a bit. It is 'to be seen' what the final actual brand is. I suppose that'll be influenced by Erdogan who would like to get a few million Syrians out of Turkey and just across the border to create a nice buffer zone from the Kurds.

Just googled 'nightlife in Damascus' to check my options -- I'm thinking of dropping a few bucks at the Mad Monkey Pub. That's just east of a nightclub called Amnesia.

I think both Russia and the new Syrian leadership will be very pragmatic about this. Syria needs friends so has strong motives to play nice with Russia. Russia will want to keep its bases.
