By elections in Britain have taken place. The Tories have suffered big loses. Post Brexit Britain has been suffering since then economically. The Tories were running Britain and have gotten the blame, and deserve it.

......
Elections expert John Curtice projected the Tories could ultimately lose up to 500 local council seats as vote counting continues into the weekend, following elections in which voters cast ballots for 2,661 seats.
....
Curtice added that if the results were replicated in a general election, Labour would likely win 34% of the vote, with the Tories winning 25%—five years after the right-wing party won in a landslide in the last nationwide contest.
......

That's good to know, as I keep reading articles that claim Europe is tilting to the far right. Hope all of the people who have been fearful of that are wrong.

Well, the far right have been trying to create a tilt, but my understanding is that this is like the skinny kid trying to see-saw with the fat kid on the other end.

Tories have been in power since 2010. Almost quarter century. It is inevitable that a tide would turn, even without somewhat chaotic governing of late.

When Hamas terrorists gleefully recorded themselves kidnapping, raping and killing Israeli civilians on October 7 2023, their actions were accompanied by unmistakeable cries of ‘Allahu Akbar!’ So when Mothin Ali, the newly elected Leeds City councillor for the Green Party, who celebrated his win with the same victory cry, claims that criticism of his behaviour amounts to ‘Islamophobia’, he is being more than a little disingenuous. But perhaps more worrying than Mr Ali himself is what he represents. Which is the rise of a movement not seen in Britain since the darkest days of the Troubles: the return of sectarianism in politics. It is a deeply disturbing prospect. Mr Ali is just one of a number now elected on religious platforms, openly hostile to Israel and promoting, in some cases, narrow beliefs and values that run counter to the secular liberalism on which this country is built. Where once these religious absolutists inhabited the fringes of our political landscape, now they are beginning to enter the mainstream.

This does not bode well for UK national politics.

Wow, the Greens in Britain are now a mainstream party! Everyone else in Britain will be surprised to learn this.
Also why should you worry about this when the Republicans (you know that "fringe" party in USA) has gone full evangelist? That is a much bigger concern for everyone else.

It looks like the Green Party are beginning to enter the mainstream. In the last election they won their largest number of council seats. And the Green Party were mainstream enough in Scotland that the SNP had to form a coalition government with them. Ended in disaster of course but hey-ho.

Yeah and Brexit boded so much goodness.

The Daily Mail has never boded well for UK national politics.
Whenever there's anywhere remotely nice or prosperous in the world, the Daily Mail is there to anxiously predict its demise on a weekly basis.

Far more mainstream than the US Green Party. In this election, they won 181 local council seats. That's almost 7% of councilors.
Also why should you worry about this when the Republicans (you know that "fringe" party in USA) has gone full evangelist? That is a much bigger concern for everyone else.
Is it? I would much rather take my chances with evangelicals than with Islamic Rage Bois like Mothin Ali ...

You forgot the part where they attribute the "imminent demise" to all the things that make said places prosperous and nice.

Actually Brexit actually happened, at the behest of the dumbest fuckers in British politics.
It did happen, but to distract from the Green Party Hamas guy (at least they have same colors, makes it easier to merge platforms) with "what about Brexit" is whataboutism.

No, because Brexit happened. It was a reckless wet dream of a bunch of idiotic far right-wingers that have destabilized the economy of the country. They burned it down, promising all this wonderful stuff to the people. Only the bad, none of the good.

Your accusation of "whataboutism" would require the green party to be actually responsible for something that harmed the nation.

Yeah and Brexit boded so much goodness.
That is classic whataboutism.

It must be very frustrating for you when the plebs don't vote the way you want.
The plebs didn't get what was promised to them by the "burn it down" Boris Johnsons out there, which is probably even more frustrating to them. Might be why the Tories are having troubles right now.

Wait, politicians didn't deliver what they said they would?!! WTF!! That has NEVER EVER happened before!!! This is an outrage!!

But anyway, Brexit was delivered, it DID happen and that's what counts.
