Captain America: Civil War trailer released

Possibly my favourite comic, but this seems very different. Though of course it has to be. Still hard to see this as a solo movie and not an avenger type movie.

This looks very different from the comics, and no hint of Spider-Man in the trailer, though I have heard that he will be in the movie.

I didn't expect it to mirror the comics exactly, but this seems much farther afield to me. It looks like Winter Soldier is going to stand in for the New Warriors as the proximate cause for the Registration Act, and I am not sure how they are going to pull that off to give it the same tone as the comics. I am guessing they are backing off from the Stamford incident because it may be too close to something like Sandy Hook for the target audience. I think they could have centered around the Hulk in Las Vegas that came before Stamford, to give a closer tie-in to the comics. It doesn't look like the Hulk will be putting in an appearance in the movie, though.

I am hoping it will still be a great movie, despite being toned down, and my butt will be in the theater seat on opening day.

Eh, looked a bit silly. Glad to see Black Panther in there.

while this year's two showings were decent but lack-luster, it's refreshing to know that a marvel movie trailer can still make me get all tingly with excitement and anticipation.

If Marvel would only make trailers and after-credits scenes, they'd save a ton of money.

Yeah. they figured out that the only way to make their ridiculously overpowered mary-sues interesting was to make them fight each other.

When will Thanos ever get up off his ass and actually do something?

Many of the movies have gone far afield. At this point, they have my confidence.

Given that the Russo brothers are involved, I suspect that the underlying theme (freedom vs security in a post-9/11 world) will remain intact, and that is really the only important part of the story. Well, that and...

...Tony in the back of an ambulance with Steve Rogers' corpse saying "It wasn't worth it." If there is any point in having an actor of that caliber play Tony Stark, it is to hear him deliver that one line. He better make me cry.

One thing that bothers me is that Luke Cage and Jessica Jones are technically part of the Marvel cinematic universe now, but will not be in Civil War. Not crazy about that, since they did have to live with the aftereffects of the war.

Avengers 3 and Avengers 4. It's been announced for years now. :p

I can't speak to the comic, but as a casual fan of the movies, I love the direction they're taking with Captain America.

He's the serious hero in a serious movie.

Tony Stark has always been the casual billionaire playboy hero. Thor has always been the charismatic god hero. Quips and comedy abound.

Cap is a buzzkill when he's around the other Avengers, but he's the real deal. He's not dark...he's...perfunctory. A super-human who is so by the book it is almost annoying.

How much am I missing in these movies by not watching Agents of Shield or any other Marvel TV show?

Nothing. The shows have some minor references to the movies (Coulson giving intel to Maria Hill, Agent Carter using the device that Ant-Man retrieved from the Avengers warehouse, etc.) but nothing that adds anything crucial to the plot. The flow is mostly other way around, you get more out of the tv shows if you watch the movies.

I know that. The MarySueness applies to all media.

so far i've only seen one major plot point from the movies be something that was introduced in the show, and if you hadn't watched the show that one point in the movie wouldn't have made quite as much sense.
there was a bit in agents of SHIELD where coulson goes off and finds an old SHIELD base that still has a helicarrier parked in it, which he gets and delivers to fury, which is where fury gets the helicarrier he shows up inside of during the finale of age of ultron.

Captain America is deliciously subversive.

He is designed specifically to appeal to jingoist idiots, while sneaking in messages that jingoists might otherwise not consider. CA3 will deal with similar "security vs freedom in a post-9/11 world" as you saw in the second movie, but this time with heroes punching each other.

Yeah, it has to be that way, which is one of the things that is holding SHIELD back. They can only flesh things out with greater detail, not influence any major plot points, and they have to do it without any of the movie characters (Lady Sif and Nick Fury seem to be the only exception, and even they don't show up very often).

This is still technically rumor, but it is sounding more and more like Black Panther will fill the role of Spider-Man from the comic book version of Civil War as the hero torn between the ideological arguments from both sides.

Interesting. I had not heard this rumor, though I have heard that they are casting a black actor in the role of Spider-Man, leading many to believe that this will be the Miles Morales version of Spider-Man. I don't buy it, though (Miles Morales as Spidey, that is). Given what Tony Stark asks him to do, and what he does as a result, you really need the audience to know more about, and be more invested in, Spider-Man and his background, which you are not going to get with Miles Morales. You also aren't going to get that with Black Panther.
