Caretaker for autistic man, unarmed, lying on ground with his hands up, still shot by Miami police

Both of those things were made clear to the microphone on the recording device. We don't know what the cop heard. To the cop, two things were clear. The men acting insane on the ground. Yelling and banging their heads with what could have looked like a gun. Poor cop deserves a medal for bravery if you ask me.

You've got to be fucking trolling me. So the cops are deaf, and can't hear plain English being spoken in a loud voice? An autistic guy playing with a toy, and his caretaker trying to calm him down is "insanity?" And a cop deserves a medal for shooting the guy on the ground with his fucking hands up?

This is seriously one of the dumbest things I've ever read here, and that's saying a LOT.

No Warpoet I'm not trolling. What I said wouldn't sound dumb in court would it? I can't imagine how scared that cop was. Has anyone asked about his shock? He may be scarred for life. All of the attention is going to the victim of the accident, and he is lapping it up.

Gun goes off. Leg gets nicked. Only problem I see in this situation is the irresponsible use of a camera, and "caretaking" irresponsibility.

By the way, the word "caretaker" can mean "I get paid minimum wage to smoke rock and babysit an autistic person". I'm not 100% on his official title, but if it is something like "direct care staff", he wasn't taking care of that autistic man. That isn't a hard job to get. I did it when I was 21, and I smoked grass right in front of a severely autistic man named Buzzy for months. That is probably what the victim of this accident was doing. We aren't clear on what drugs he was using, but we know he was getting paid to let him wander in the facility. Let him wander was exactly what he did, too. I do see some negligence and I hope the family of the autistic man can forgive his quote caretaker.

Either you are a very persistent troll or one of the most WTF posters who's ever managed to find his way here.

This isn't an uncommon opinion to encounter, Warpoet. Surely you have had this discussion before. I don't see anything strange written here. Not by me anyway.

nothing you've said has made any kind of sense.

It doesn't make sense to question about the possible post-traumatic stress the cop may have.

It doesn't make sense to be suspicious of a man who lets a violently autistic man wander the streets.

It doesn't make sense to question the caretaker's title.

It doesn't make sense to believe that any video can be misleading.

It really doesn't make sense that people are tripping out about this. The only victim in this accident is the integrity of all police officers, because people get riled up and jump the gun whenever an African American scrapes it's knee. Ironically, that is all the bullet did to this man. The damage to the police is far worse.

Guns go off and people die. Black people are no exception, and by the nature of their stale equality arguments, they should be glad they're being murdered by cops. That makes us all equal doesn't it? I hope you understand the way I put it. I tried really hard to sound as fair as possible. I'm in no way racist. I'm a white heterosexual male, which societally makes me an evil and unacceptable person by default, but I'm not racist.

What in the literal fuck?

Two unarmed men - an autistic man with a toy and his caretaker, are surrounded by armed police; the caretaker, on the ground with his hands up, explains the situation, and an idiot cop just somehow lets his finger slip and shoots the black guy. Oops!

And you think the cop is the victim here and want to talk about the actual victim's "probable" drug use. I sincerely hope for your sake you actually are a troll, because god damn.

Fingers slip. Cops have fingers. Oops. Cops are human and they make mistakes. Fingers certainly don't slip when it is time to click upload. Every time someone uploads half of an incident and paints it as a police conspiracy, I become less safe. So do you.

There is no point in crying over guns going off, Warpoet. All races are getting murdered by cops because that is what happens. People who think they're specifically targeted can sometimes make themselves just that, by pouting and assuming their specialness isn't as special as anyone else's. They can cause the problem themselves, by the way they react. It is so simple. I hope you understand a little better now.

And you think the cop is the victim here and want to talk about the actual victim's "probable" drug use.

I'm not certain he was on drugs. He may only have marijuana in his system. We'll just have to wait and see what they say.

I understand how incredibly fucked up your view on the issue is, and if it's as common as you claim, that does a lot to explain why police shooting people is also so common. Literally nothing about this incident warranted shooting anybody, especially not a guy on the ground with his fucking hands up. And BTW, the officer fired three times, so that must be one very, very slippery finger he has. But yes, nothing to get upset over here. Oopsie daisies!

I doubt this would even make the news if the autistic white man was the one shot. The video looks like a horrifying scene. I'd approach with my gun drawn and my family in mind. Adrenalin makes guns go off, and cops aren't immune to that problem. Did the cop not sincerely apologize? Why are people upset about this?

Adrenalin does not make guns go off. People pulling triggers on guns makes guns go off.

I do have an incredibly fucked up view. I agree. And the public is killing cops with the fucked up, out of focus view of their camera phones. That is what is fucked up man. Viewing this issue from any angle is fucked up. But I'm sooo off base because I don't get emotional and jump to conclusions.

I don't get riled up when cops shoot people. That is part of their job. If you work at Wendy's, a tiny bit of saliva may accidentally make it's way onto a burger. Sometimes on accident. Sometimes on purpose. That is part of your job. Burgers get spat on and citizens get murdered. Ground chuck, chicken patties and filet o' fish. All dripping with saliva. Black people, white people and Mexicans. All getting chewed up by bullets because work is work, and inevitability is inevitable.

The man in the video should not have been shot, but it was an accident. This video we're talking about will be responsible for more death. Is that Okay with you? I think the confusion between us is caused by the fact that I'm not pretending to care about this. You may be unfamiliar with that. I don't know.

I'm not sure I've ever know a cop that shot anyone. I do know an ex-Franciscan monk that shot someone when working for an armored car company.

I've known people who have been crippled in on the job accidents. Safety is part of every job.

Exactly what should have made a trained professional scared of a man lying on the ground with his hands up?

This is clearly the man's fault for lying on the ground and putting his hands up. You have to display dominance behaviour in these situations. He should have beat his chest and flung poo at the officer.
