Climate Change(d)?

citing

Scientists have come to the optimistic conclusion that climate change might not lead to unpredictable chaos.

The impact of human activity on the Earth system could result in unpredictable chaos from which there is no return, physicists have calculated.

"If the Earth System gets into the region of chaotic behavior, we will lose all hope of somehow fixing the problem."

This outcome isn't inevitable, which is something of a relief.

We don't need unpredictable chaos for things to be "worse" with more flooding, more serious storm damage, more intense and long duration temperature extremes. This will cost money and lives.

In the media there is a steam stream of 'a physicist' or 'scientist' says one thing or the other.

A new meme in pop culture is anything a scientist says, anyone with a science degree, has authority.

Human civilization has always been chaos. Today the idea of western liberal democracies and democatic porcesses can keep the chaos low enough to be stable, as as opposed to authrterian systems like China today or ancent Rome..

Climate chge adds to the stress on the systems. I listened rto a reprt last night on farmng in Mjsssjisippi. Large scale crop loss from heat and low rain. Unorecedented duration. Price of food goes up.

People know as fact you do not live long without food and water, but it does not seem to think in how fragile our food and water sypplies are.

Peope panicked during the COVID shutdown and horded food and other items like toilet paper.

What do you think happes wjen we see a sytemic drop in food?

We used to be zone 8b, now we are 9a. Not long ago I was talking to someone in a warmer part of the city--they took out their fruit trees because they no longer were producing fruit. The winters were warm enough that they weren't meeting the chilling requirements of the trees.

The president of Cop28, Sultan Al Jaber, has claimed there is “no science” indicating that a phase-out of fossil fuels is needed to restrict global heating to 1.5C, Al Jaber also said a phase-out of fossil fuels would not allow sustainable development “unless you want to take the world back into caves”.
Al Jaber spoke with Robinson at a She Changes Climate event. Robinson said: “We’re in an absolute crisis that is hurting women and children more than anyone … and it’s because we have not yet committed to phasing out fossil fuel. That is the one decision that Cop28 can take and in many ways, because you’re head of Adnoc, you could actually take it with more credibility.” Al Jaber said: “I accepted to come to this meeting to have a sober and mature conversation. I’m not in any way signing up to any discussion that is alarmist. There is no science out there, or no scenario out there, that says that the phase-out of fossil fuel is what’s going to achieve 1.5C.” Robinson challenged him further, saying: “I read that your company is investing in a lot more fossil fuel in the future.” Al Jaber responded: “You’re reading your own media, which is biased and wrong. I am telling you I am the man in charge.” Al Jaber then said: “Please help me, show me the roadmap for a phase-out of fossil fuel that will allow for sustainable socioeconomic development, unless you want to take the world back into caves.” “I don’t think [you] will be able to help solve the climate problem by pointing fingers or contributing to the polarisation and the divide that is already happening in the world. Show me the solutions. Stop the pointing of fingers. Stop it,” Al Jaber said.

Cigarette companies: Smoking isn't harmful to your health.
Petroleum Industry: Plastics are completely recyclable.
Oil Magnates: There is no such thing as climate change
Oil Magnates Now: Climate change* won't stop by phasing out fossil fuels.

79 year old John Kerry is an embarrassment.

Former Secretary of State and presidential candidate John Kerry is facing accusations that he broke wind during one of his patented climate change rants that he delivered in Dubai after traveling to the Emirate via a gas guzzling jet. Kerry, 79, was in the process of telling the audience that 'the climate crisis and the health crisis are one and the same' on Sunday while bringing up a study that states coal 'doubles the numbers of deaths' compared to other types of pollutions, when a squeak could be heard.
‘There shouldn’t be any more coal-fired power plants permitted anywhere in the world,' Kerry added while saying that he's become more-and-more 'militant' over the issue in his old-age.

Daily Mail

Cranky old geezer upset with the weather.

So while USA "climate envoy" John Kerry scolds Al Jaber about fossil fuel production, the USA has hit record highs in fossil fuel production.

American oil fields are gushing again, helping to drive down fuel prices but also threatening to undercut efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Only three years after U.S. oil production collapsed during the pandemic, energy companies are cranking out a record 13.2 million barrels a day, more than Russia or Saudi Arabia. The flow of oil has grown by roughly 800,000 barrels a day since early 2022, and analysts expect the industry to add another 500,000 barrels a day next year. In addition, the natural gas that often bubbles up with oil has led to record exports of gas and helped to lower prices for that fuel and for electricity, much of which is produced at gas-fired power plants in the United States.

Yesterday you said it was 80 degrees! That is some wild swing in temperature. Perhaps the climate is changing???

Nah, just the weather.
Our normal temps often vary 35°F over the course of 6-8 hours.

COP28 is a joke, the fox guarding the henhouse.

How about addressing the USDA change I mentioned? I'm one of those that has noticed times shift--it is very obvious in terms of when things die back in the winter.

TSwizzle's posts in here are like an Onlyfans account, where people pay the user to pwn the libs.

Clearly the changing USDA zoning and building codes are substantial indicators to a changing environment. Where I live, in 20 years, the leaves drop 1+ month later than they did. We are seeing serious issues with coral in the marine environment. They are under greater heat stress and are provided less and less recovery time. Losing corals will be a bad thing for the marine ecosystem which likely will cascade. Sure, it won't impact the temperature much in Southern California, though.

But discussing climate change isn't why TSwizzle posts here, it is about getting credits.

Huh? Credits from whom and for what?
That doesn't make sense. I think he's only here to prove to himself that he can pwnthelibs, like most of our other trumpsuckers.

27 years ago (and forever before that according to local old timers) up to about 15 years ago, it would snow in November and it would remain on the ground until late April.
Last night's low was 35F. and today's high is predicted to be 54F. Probably the warmest 24 hours in December I've ever seen here.
I blame all the hot air drifting our way from Santa Monica.

Indeed, I think one of the issues with climate change is that it impacts areas where 32 degrees is a thing quite a bit more noticeably. Granted, the heat domes in 2023 were also quite impressive in the Middle East and the Gulf Coast region... and the US Southwest desert area. The climate has changed. Clearly, it is unarguable. The TSwizzles will goalpost shift between the change is negligible to there is no Armageddon scenario so who cares to we can't do anything about the change that is actually noticeable. Misquotes, quote mines, or simple hand waving... it is all good. Insert some name calling, and badda bing... Onlyfans fans are erupting in alt-right joy at the libs being pwned.

We have gone from 9b to 10a and maybe even 10b. All of our southern temperate fruit trees stopped producing fruit. They wouldn't go dormant and these were varieties of plum and peach that were bred to fruit on as little as 150 chill hours. We grow mangos, bananas, pineapples, and papayas now and haven't seen a daily low temp lower than 33F since 2011.

Then there are the tropical fish that are taking over our eutrophic lakes and streams.

Oh noes!!11!!!!!!11!1!!!

The next few days could be the world’s last chance of keeping global heating within safe limits, nations meeting for the Cop28 UN climate summit have been told. Dan Jørgensen, Denmark’s climate minister, who has been charged with one of the key roles in forging an agreement among deeply divided governments, said: “We cannot negotiate with nature. The climate cannot compromise. No well meaning words will change a single thing unless we act. This week may be our last opportunity to bring us on course to keeping 1.5C alive.”

Teh Gruaniad

“Ladies and gentlemen, Cop26 begins in Glasgow tomorrow,” King Charles said. “Quite literally, it is the last chance saloon. We must now translate fine words into still finer actions.

Hilarious. These COP boondoggles need to stop.

I haven't paid attention to when the leaves drop because nothing depends on it. Today is windy and got the majority of the remaining leaves.

What is noticeable is the pots where we grow yams (she likes the leaves, we don't harvest the yams) in the warm time and snow peas in the cold time. Back in 2016 the day after election day I posted a picture out the front door showing that even God cried about the election results. Somebody noticed one of the pots where the yams had died back. This year I decided there were no more leaves worth harvesting (not dead but sad looking) and cut them off to plant peas. In early December. Likewise, the okra wasn't dead, just not producing any more okra.
