Covid-19 miscellany

Well if this new variant does turn out to really be less virulent, maybe it will be the thing to finally get us to herd immunity in a somewhat tolerably way, by involuntarily immunizing the remaining luddites.
I hope so because I don’t fancy getting “vaccinated” four, five, six times a year. Plus a few boosters.

Nobody wants that.
Well, except the investors who own Pfizer and such.

Too bad so many people refused vaccination. So we're dealing with variants that evolved in response to our lack of herd immunity, but with a lot of vaccinated people putting evolutionary pressures on the virus.

It's really simple.

A group of unvaccinated people who attended a huge conspiracy conference in Dallas earlier this month all became sick in the days after the event with symptoms like coughing, shortness of breath, and fever. Instead of blaming the global COVID pandemic, however, the conspiracy theorists think they were attacked with anthrax.

This far-right conspiracy claim began after a dozen people spent time together in a confined space at the ReAwaken America tour event in Dallas over the weekend of Dec. 10. And the fact that this was likely a COVID outbreak and superspreader event has been almost entirely ignored.

I give it to AM that not everyone who fails to get vaccinated and then contracts COVID totally deserves to die.
They just deserve to die more than those they infect deserve to die. On average, of course.
Neither deserves to die. Both deserve to live and learn and love!

It's a tragedy, pure and simple, insofar that some will not. That a failure to learn will produce an inability to live, and not only impacting themselves.
Tragedy is never pure and rarely simple. The ill and dieing Covid deniers of various stripes and practices are in themselves and in their story arcs, self-satire,.
The "don't punish them, how dare you" trope is like saying the someone who eats detergent pods doesn't deserve to be punished by getting sick, or that it's somehow unseemly to point out pointedly that their actions had predictable unpleasant consequences.
You are again vastly misconstruing what I said. I was replying to contentions that they deserved it. And I never said 'don't punish them'; rather, I argued they do not deserve to die.
Um, why do you assume I was talking about you?

I assessed that because it was a conversation about my post (see Elixir's statements). But I take it by your answer that it wasn't? If so, okay (I'm not debating these points anymore, though).

While Scotland and Wales roll out further nonsensical covid restrictions, England has resisted the lockdown zealots call for more restrictions;

England's New Year's Eve celebrations were today given the green light after weeks of being hung in the balance as Boris Johnson held his nerve in the face of grim Omicron warnings from his own advisers and avoided bringing in tough new restrictions. The Prime Minister wants to rely on guidance urging people to limit socialising, rather than impose legally binding curbs like Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland woke up to today.

I'm not certain why Windows 11 gets a free pass with this whole Global Totalitarian Regime thing.

So is that Population Control as in controlling the magnitude of the global population or as in general control over the population? It is a very vague claim.

Nation with highest rates of Covid-19, has medical organization put up high risk warnings about travel to other countries with lower rates (500 per 100,000 per month) of Covid-19.

article said:
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention added three European destinations to its highest-risk category for travel on Tuesday, including Sweden.

In its weekly update of Covid-19 travel advisories, the CDC also added Malta and Moldova to its "Level 4: Covid-19 Very High" category.
The US, which has a 7-day average of nearly 250,000 new cases a day (or 75 per 100,000 per day), is roughly 4.5 times higher than the Level IV threshold the CDC is using for high risk destinations.
