Covid-19 miscellany

TSwizzle, there is one point I'd like to ask about. You tell me "you’d rather bitch about some random person you know nothing about". That is not true as I explained above, but it raises an interesting point: you seem to think there is some information about these people that somehow makes the criticism misplaced. If so, what is it? If you think that the bikers's participation in this event is justified, what do you think justifies participating in an event that will very probably kill and certainly hurt significantly a bunch of third parties, given the extremely low cost of drastically reducing those risks? All they need to do is wait for herd immunity and then have their event.

No eligibility rules in Russia since January. People from EU go to Moscow to get vaccinated.

But vaccination rate is still pretty low in Russia.

I’ve seen people argue this line of thought before and it seems to ignore the reality that those cases get into nursing homes somehow.... typically through asymptomatic people walking around thinking, “this is not a big deal,” and then they cary it into a nursing home and cause multiple deaths.

So you are just going to ignore the policy of moving known covid positive patients in to nursing homes.

Vegas baby !!

Crowds were seen strolling the Las Vegas Strip on Saturday and guests gathered shoulder-to-shoulder inside Sin City casinos as capacity restrictions are expected to ease to 50 percent on Monday. Nevada's 'Roadmap to Recovery' plan remains on schedule and Gov. Steve Sisolak signed an emergency directive on Friday that loosens the state's coronavirus restrictions, according to a press release. The capacity for gaming floors and other establishments will increase from 35 to 50 percent on Monday as the state saw only 222 new cases with just one new death on Sunday, according to state health data.

The last time I was in Vegas was early February 2020 just as this thing was taking off. A lot of California casinos have been open for a while.

I hope you are sitting down for this jaw dropping finding.

article said:
A review of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Covid-19 guidance has found that some of the agency's guidance during the Trump administration was not grounded in science or free from undue influence, according to a statement from a CDC spokesperson.

The review found that some guidance "used less direct language than available evidence supported," "needed to be updated to reflect the latest scientific evidence" and "presented the underlying science base for guidance inconsistently," according to the spokesperson.

Additionally, the review identified three documents that were not primarily authored by the CDC and yet were presented as CDC documents, according to the spokesperson. The agency has removed two of the documents from its website, and updated and replaced the third.

The review was ordered by President Joe Biden's CDC director, Dr. Rochelle Walensky, in response to concerns about some of the agency's guidance during the first year of the pandemic under the Trump administration.

I know, like seriously mind blowing.

I was in the navy for 15 years before i had to actuslly put someone on report. Usually we made do with peer pressure and waking them up with a fire hose.
Anyway, for me it was traumatic. I knew i had to gather evidence, fill out forms, get times and specify the charges, dot every T, cross every I. Not looking forward to it. Even though the sailor in question was an extensive POS, a complete waste of oxygen, i was horrified at tge coming effort.
I walked into thd yeoman shack. "I need to put someone on report."
He didn't look up from his keyboard. "Is it Conners?"
"Um, yeah?"
He handed me a clipboard. Two sheets of paper. Conners' name at the top of both. Columns for date, time, violation, article number (if known), and division placing him on report. I filled in my specification , halfway down the second page.
Hd STILL did't look up at me. "Okay, thanks, we'll add that to the list. Call you if we need anything."

I now know how that personnelman felt.
"Someone fabricated CDC guidance for POLITICAL GAIN!!!"
"Was it Trump? Or his administration?"
"Um, yeah?"
:sigh: "Let me get the clipboard."

I know exactly why. The fuckers (in California anyway) put infected patients in nursing homes. Almost 50% of deaths occurred in long term care facilities. A fucking scandal that gets ignored by the finger waggers who prefer hectoring people out on a walk.

What do you suggest should have been done with those people? The hospitals needed the beds for far sicker patients. What would your alternative have been?

Still waiting for a response to the above.

Fuck that. Most of the deaths came in December and January. The issue of Nursing Homes is a red herring. "Thousands died!"

Hundreds of thousands more died because of the indifference of people.

Surprised you stopped there and didn’t get him ripped to shreds in some horrific “accident”.

Ranking Officer: You got him killed?
Keith&Co: Woah, woah. Now I’d admit his current status isn’t exactly baseline, however his performance level hasn’t decreased.

Oh, nice try, but i went ahead and figured the 'all clear' date for my entire Navy career. Statute of limitations, expiration of benefits, the last point they can ask for overpay yo be returned... We're not there, yet.

Woooow! That's pretty much what i said that day!

Dipwad had his car rigged for shortwave radio, drove to the beach for better reception.... and fell asleep. Showed up in the shipyard at noon.
Chief wanted to know why i hadn't noticed him being AWOL at muster, 0700.
"Well, Chief, his work performance for those five hours he missed? Pretty much what we'd have gotten if he was here."

You are wrong on that. The vast, VAST majority of people who contract this virus survive unscathed. You’re talking about a virus so lethal you need a test to detect if you have it.

Repeating this ad nauseum doesn't it any more true than it was the first time you said it.

Stay home, run away or whatever it takes.

<Pulls out gun, starts shooting plague rats.>

Why do you think so many countries have their hospital systems collapse or nearly so?

I know exactly why. The fuckers (in California anyway) put infected patients in nursing homes. Almost 50% of deaths occurred in long term care facilities. A fucking scandal that gets ignored by the finger waggers who prefer hectoring people out on a walk.

First, you have it wrong. The facilities were already infected, that's why the patients ended up in the hospital.

Second, what you are referring to happened early on--but the hospitals being pushed to the brink was much later.

Why don’t you take your concerns up with the health authorities that murdered hundreds of thousands of elderly and infirm people in the nursing homes ? Nah, because you’d rather bitch about some random person you know nothing about.

You mean the care workers who were plague rats? (Although the lack of PPE at that point probably meant nothing could be done.)

Hey, anyone know how many STDs there are that you have to get tested to see if you have them? At least, until you get to the "turns black and falls off" stage so popular in Navy hygiene films...

But it's still not a good plan to fuck around as if you'll never get them. People could get hurt.

Especially chlamydia. It can easily produce no symptoms until the woman winds up in the infertility clinic.

No noticeable symptoms != no damage being done.

That's part of why high blood pressure is such a problem--zero symptoms unless it's severe, patients only get the side effects of the drugs without any apparent benefit as they can't see their organs being slowly beaten to death by it.

The Daily Fail. You think data from Sunday is accurate?? When you look at the graphs there's a very clear pattern--5 days higher, 2 days lower. Our 7-day case average is twice that and our 7-day death average is ten times that.

I've been to Las Vegas probably about 30 times. All for trade shows. I can't stand Las Vegas. It's so tacky. Barf those photos.

Hilarious;

A judge ruled Tuesday that the city of Burbank can padlock the doors at a Burbank bar and restaurant that has continued operating despite the issuance of a temporary restraining order allowing the city to enforce its closure order. But in the latest round of back-and-forth between the city and bar, the owners of Tinhorn Flat removed the doors..

Not likely. Your fare was just an asshole. Luckily there is a little karma here.
