As most of you know, Derren Brown is one of the best psychological illusionists in the world. He never fails to show us just how gullible and predictable and unaware we modern humans are much of the time, especially in social situations.

No one shows us so brilliantly and engagingly just how not smart we are as Derren Brown does. He can turn atheists into believers and vice versa, and then change them back to the way they were. He's made sober people drunk without a drink, given people toothaches, made people kill kittens and humans, rob banks and art galleries, pick pockets and steal food, turn into puppets, and so much more.

Search youtube for Derren's shows and specials if you're not familiar with his work. You won't be disappointed.

Derren's latest special, Sacrifice, comes to Netflix Oct 19 (even though it's officially Oct 19 right now as I write this and Sacrifice is not on Netflix yet. :mad: )

This one shows him taking an American bigot who thinks all immigrants should be kicked out of the US and turning him into a hero who will take a bullet for an immigrant.

If this one is anything like his previous specials, prepare to have your socks blown off!

I'm really disappointed that we don't have many Derren Brown fans here. So much of relevance and interest in everything he does. And he explains it to us. He educates us. He doesn't just stop at entertaining us.

Anyway, please watch Sacrifice. And please try to get your racist friends and family to watch it. It's very powerful. I cried. And again, highly relevant to the world, not just the US.
 
Thanks for the Netflix heads up.
Penn and Teller and he and Stephen Fry et al are all excellent entertainers and educators.

Of course, it's easy to amaze ignorant people who don't (yet) know how its done.
Starting a fire with a cigarette lighter would baffle and amaze Palaeolithic cavemen.
And rattling off amazing factoids on QA can make you appear to be a smug genius.
But knowing where the hidden stage trapdoor is, and having a teleprompter script to follow doesn't really give you bragging rights over an audience that doesn't have the same advantage.

I've got a MENSA quiz book with answers at that back of the book.
I tried the tests first go and got a score of 90
Then I read/memorised the all the answers and took the tests a second time and suddenly I'm a genius.
 
I’ve watched quite a bit of Derren Brown‘s stuff on YouTube. A big part of his skill-set is being able to identify people who are vulnerable/gullible to his techniques. He’s pretty open about this.
His stuff is fascinating to watch because it reminds us how easy it is to be manipulated and decieived.

"But it reminds us..."? To me, that's what's most valuable in his work, not just a side effect. And for most people, it's not reminding. It's more like educating, demonstrating something they wouldn't glean from life otherwise. A lot of people won't pick up on that or see anything of personal value in it, but a lot of people do.

Well I do often edit my post , soon after I've posted them (My grammar is horrible).
But in this case you appear to have responded to a post with the word "because", and not "but", see your quote of my post.
Your response to my post was made 1 hr and 42 minutes after I made it. There is no edit time listed at the bottom of my post, which I believe would have happened automatically if I edited it more than 15 minutes after it was posted.
So if I did change the post. that would mean you were responding to a post that had been changed at least 87 minutes prior ...?

Yeah that's happened to me before, where I've responded to something in a post that had already been edited out.
I just didn't want people to think I had edited my post after reading your responded to it. :)

It's much easier to fool people than to convince them they have been fooled. Organized religion couldn't exist otherwise.

Yeah that's happened to me before, where I've responded to something in a post that had already been edited out.

What kind of Internet forum allows civil discourse in which people admit their errors, and don't respond with insults and doubling-down on their minor misunderstandings? Zuckerberg would be horrified.

You should both be ashamed of yourselves. I demand that you start hurling abuse and invective at each other forthwith!
