Education Secretary Betsy DeVos is recovering after undergoing surgery to repair a broken bone suffered in a cycling accident.

A department spokeswoman says DeVos is resting at home after the Thursday surgery. She is expected to recover fully. The spokeswoman did not immediately answer questions about the accident or the nature of DeVos’ injury.

Like many others my first thought was, "I've never heard of a billionaire on a bicycle before!"

My second was, "one of the things I love best about TalkingPointsMemo is the comments section."

Since she is going to have a full recovery, I am able to laugh at some of the fine humor in the comments. Including the picture of that governement worker on the bike flipping Trump the bird, some appropriate quotes from Churchill and

A: The crank was damaged... But the bike is fine.


She is an evil greedy person and I hope she is not in too much pain, but I hope she stops working to harm society, so leaving her job would be nice.

I think it's only human. A great many of us are seeing exactly what the Nazi End Times morons are doing to our country and its institutions, values, and safeguards. And we are not just angry, but as individual citizens, we feel helpless.

You're a human being, too. You may not have a strong tendency for these things, but I'm sure that you can recall a time or times in your own life when you thought someone got their just desserts when they suffered in some way after having wronged you or someone else.

Considering the depth of helpless rage we experience watching the abuses those conscienceless, ideologically addled mongrels have heaped upon Americans, the possibility of any of them suffering, especially if it's some kind that removes them from their place of power, is going to offer a bit of emotional relief. Right or wrong, that's how humans operate.

That's not the same as actively taking joy in others' physical pain. That's called sadism, and it's just not the same thing as what so many of us feel these days.
