Emmanuel Macron will be president of France after beating Marine Le Pen of the far-right National Front by 65 percent to 35 percent in Sunday's runoff, Belgian newspaper La Libre Belgique said, citing a projection based on early results by pollster Ipsos.

I suspect the Russian Ambassador should probably begin to pack up his stuff to leave France.

Hopefully this will be the last we hear of the Le Pens for a while.

At least it shows the French, by and large, haven't sunk to the level of fear and ignorance that Americans have. On other boards, Trumptards are going apeshit over this. France is going to be under Sharia law, etc.

The moral of this episode is that the voters of the US need to eat more escargot.

It was a foregone conclusion. She came second in the first round but as usual the candidates who drop out would then vote for the non-NF candidate. She polled slightly less than expected. Next is the National election. A coalition of parties is most likely.

Only 35% of them.

Only one out of every three people you meet.

Which I think speaks to their national character, if you will. The atmosphere is very tense and continued to be so with armed soldiers on every other corner in Paris streets, and far more attacks recently than has taken place in the U.S.

Run off election is a great idea.

Just like many other EU countries France's debts are a serious issue

http://www.tradingeconomics.com/france/government-debt-to-gdp
ance recorded a government debt equivalent to 96 percent of the country's Gross Domestic Product in 2016. Government Debt to GDP in France averaged 56.07 percent from 1980 until 2016, reaching an all time high of 96 percent in 2016 and a record low of 20.70 percent in 1980

Fun fact:

For the first time in history, the President of France will speak better English than the President of the United States.

I rather doubt that. Very few people in the United States have ever spoken good English. ;)

Very VERY few of them (over the age of four) speak worse English than El Cheato.
Anyhow your ears are upside down - how would you know? :p

That's not an accomplishment on Macron's part. Even I speak better English than Trump.

Well, the French are always going on about how they're so damn superior to the British and Americans. I guess we can't correct them anymore.
