Freddie Gray dies a week after being injured during arrest

Don't blame BLM, blame the asshole police who killed him in their custody and made a rather worthless person a martyr.
I still blame #BLMers for choosing such a worthless martyr. And the city for giving his family 6 million dollars even though he had zero legitimate earning and zero to little future legitimate earning potential.
As far as "asshole police", Freddie's death was apparently accidental, with the degree of negligence up to much dispute. It's not like they set out to kill him.
You remember that part, right? The part where he was dead and not alive anymore?
As are many people.
Whether officers are found guilty of breaking the law, the officers involved undoubtably committed acts that led directly to his death. Their lawyers can do what they can to make their clients not legally liable, but they sure the heck are morally liable for that person's death.
And how does that justify naming a youth center after him?

Earning potential? I thought you said he was a drug dealer.

Only among the most stalwart of reckless police supporters.
It's not like they set out to kill him.
They set out to no less that to rough him up.

No words... should have sent a poet.

This is the problem Derec. A man, a piece of trash, but still protected under the US Constitution, was killed in Police custody due to nothing less than callous disregard. And you are shitting your pants over someone naming a youth center after the guy who was killed.

I still blame #BLMers

You say that like we're supposed to be surprised or something.

Not by actual, live humans with emotions and such.

Looks like the judge has just delivered the grounds for reversal of any conviction.

UPDATE (4:01PM, 12/15/15): In a shocking statement, trial Judge William Barry told the hung jury to “Compromise if you can do so without violence to your own moral judgement,” according to reporting by ABC News.

Such a statement coming from a trial judge is shocking because “compromise verdicts” in criminal cases are anathema to American concepts of jurisprudence and due process.

Each juror is sworn to vote for a guilty verdict on a charge only if they honestly believe that each and every element of that charge has been proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

If they do not so honestly believe this to be the case for a given charge, they are sworn to vote not guilty on that charge. Period.

This lies at the core of the legal mandate that the defendant has the presumption of innocence.

There is no proper room for compromise in such a judicial framework.

While it is true that criminal trial jurors do from time to time arrive at so-called compromise verdicts, such instances are considered defects in the judicial system, not legitimate outcomes.

If ever there were grounds for reversal of any conviction, this is it.

Talk about trying to tilt the scales of justice - wow.

Probably won't matter. Looks like a hung jury (What? All men? Hee hee.)

I'm not certain why that is viewed as improper. The Judge is saying "Try harder to come to a unanimous decision." Could be 11 to 1 for acquittal.

It may be impossible for Porter to get a fair trial in Baltimore, but if the jury has a working IQ over 95 Porter should be found not guilty. From my readings, its pretty clear that like the Zimmerman trial, the prosecution is depending on confusing the jury with irrelevancies, and appealing to emotion through histrionics.

I don't see how this translates into not getting a fair trial. We permit theatrics in the courtroom.

I do agree it should result in a not-guilty. The side that tries to baffle with BS is almost inevitably in the wrong.
Then he would have been found guilty within 15 minutes.

Jurors in the trial of Baltimore police Officer William Porter reported Tuesday afternoon that they were deadlocked — but Judge Barry Williams sent them back to continue deliberating.

They continued deliberating until about 5:30 p.m., when they broke for the day. They will return Wednesday morning to continue the process.

The jurors considering whether Porter is guilty of manslaughter, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and misconduct in office had spent about nine hours deliberating when attorneys were called back into Williams' courtroom at about 3:30 p.m. for a jury note.

Williams said the jury said they were deadlocked. The jury did not elaborate on whether they are split on all or some of the charges, or which way the panel is leaning. Williams read from a portion of the jury instructions that had been read at the outset of the deliberations, in which he said the jury must reach a unanimous decision. Without any further comment, Williams told the jury to continue deliberating.

When a jury tells a judge that they can't reach a verdict, he or she must instruct them to keep deliberating at least once, according to legal experts.

The initial instruction a judge gives to a deadlocked jury is required before a judge can declare a mistrial, said Kurt Nachtman, a former prosecutor who now works in criminal defense in Baltimore.

OMG!!! Just really shows you where max stands... in the corner with the rest of the rabid partisans that have no idea what they are talking about.

What was said: "Compromise if you can do so without violence to your own moral judgement."

What the right-wing heard: "Compromise your moral judgements and convict the fucker or you're all going to prison."

Why is this even a partisan issue?!

Everything is a partisan issue. Even calling things a partisan issue means picking a side for the sake of partisanship.

I thought those places caused you so put your ass on the toilet.
Norovirus, which is the problem Chipotle has or had, causes both.
I don't know about Taco Bell, if there have been real problems recently or if it's just common prejudice against cheap fast food.

The Baltimore Sun, NS? As the LI blogger of this subject area, Andrew Branca (a self-defense attorney), already uses the sun as one of his primary sources in his running commentary it is not surprising that your quote is consistent what has already been reported at L.I..

However, in the extract posted clearly sources the added detail in the judges instructions to the jury as provided by ABC News. There is nothing contradictory between the Sun and the ABC News, whatever your "LI Max?" point might have been.

Freddie Gray, just like Jesus Christ.

Mistrial Declared - Jury Deadlocked.

While this is a victory for the defense, it is subject to retrial. Police has brought in hundreds of reinforcements, City is battened down for the too typical grievance community mob riots.

It is hoped that the mistrial will not be sufficient to trigger the knuckle draggers into the street.

Mistrial declared

article said:
Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Barry Williams issued the ruling after the jury of seven women and five men was unable to each a verdict after about 16 hours of deliberations. Porter also was charged with second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and misconduct in office over Gray's death in April from a broken neck suffered in a police van.
Allegedly even after watching 12 Angry Men, they couldn't come to a consensus.

Far-righters ejaculating everywhere. BLM'ers waiting for Jesus statues to start weeping.

So to you, "justice" only occurs when you like the result?
