GOP: The party of idiots

Notice the excuse-making. "I'm not racist or misogynist! It just so happens that the wacky lefties I ALWAYS pick on just happen to be women/women of color!
Women and so-called POCs are overrepresented on the whacky left.
Assuming that is true, it does not explain the apparent imbalance in your criticisms people are pointing out nor your whiteknighting “ whaboutism” of MTG and LB - both whom are examples of the whacky right.

I think name-calling is stupid. MTG and Boebert are objectively more despicable than Kamala Harris and it’s more important to point out the ways in which they are than to take glee in juvenile epithets.
To be fair, a thread with a name like this is probably not the right venue for serious policy discussions.
I think this thread is essentially pointing out they much of the GOP aren’t serious people with whom we could have policy discussions.

If only our issues with them were merely policy issues.

That’s not a message that a passive Trumper would ever acknowledge, the fact that it’s true notwithstanding.

So working as a bartender is a whacky political idea?
Did I say it was? It is Swammy who incessantly keeps mentioning her background.

That said, her job tending bar is linked to her wacky political ideas. I think she chose that job, rather than a professional career using her degree, because it gave her more flexibility to engage in political activism. Like driving >2000 miles to North Dakota to protest against oil.
 You have definitely criticized AOC for working as a bartender, among other things unrelated to her politics. Don't try to deny it. We've all seen it.

The derail may have buried it. Did anyone post about the Michigan GOP believing that NCAA men’s basketball teams arriving for their tournament games were hoards of illegals being imported with police escorts and all?
Yeah, I thought about posting that. Wutta dipshit.

That's a great point. However, I wanted to look into the data for the claim in the first place about overrepresentation. So, I started looking at the sentence fragment by fragment,...and it starts with "women and..." are overrepresented on the whacky left. So, I looked up numbers of women in Congress. In the House of Representatives, women make up only 42.9% of Democrats. That possibly could be okay in consideration of some people choosing to be moms. It's close enough that we might expect it to be in some kind of range of stay-at-home people that might differ by sex.

More specifically, the Internets says that 26% of women are choosing to be stay at home moms but also 7% of men are choosing to be stay at home dads. So, congress critters cannot include those people so far as I know. This converts the women available to about 37% of people and the men to about 46.5% of people, making a new total available of 83.5% of people. Now, 37% of 83.5% is 44.3% of the available people are women. But there is a lot of rounding going on here such as the available figures of 26% and 7% etc. So 42.9% is definitely within bounds of error differences...noise.

Meanwhile, if you look at Republicans in the House, only 26.2% are women. Men outnumber women by about 3 to 1 within their party in Congress.

Is that all you got from my post? Also, it was minority women (90 to 9 for Biden) that got Biden elected, not white women (55 to 44 for Trump). Minorities are the only thing holding America back from Hell.

Also, I apologize for editing my posts 10 or so times after posting. I should edit first, but that Post Reply button is soooooo tempting.

During the Eclipse of 1995 -- the only totality I've witnessed personally -- the Kingdom's Prime Minister and his wife fled the Capital and led a drunken ritual to appease Rahu, the Demon God of Darkness. The ritual succeeded; and the Kingdom survived.

I read that scientists have now revised their projection of the eclipse's center line by a few hundred meters. Was this due to God fine-tuning his aim? Any news on whom specifically He is targeting now?

I think that was because the earth is oblate rather than spherical.

Okay then, the governing bodies must simply not want the revenue.
🙄
Do you think they make more from illegal prostitution? You should know better. It’s about the bottom line.
I'm certainly not claiming to know. But it wouldn't surprise me in the least to find out that the people who really run Vegas, the moguls not the government, simply don't want to share the revenue with the government.
🤷

No. It wasnt scientists. And it wasnt the oblateness of the earth. Just some software develope in England. NASA isn’t changing its official predictions but they do acknowledge there are uncertainties. It is these uncertainties this guy is trying to quantify and redraw maps.

See, e.g.,:

The prime meridian (0° longitude) no longer passes through the Greenwich Observatory in London, as a consequence of the Earth being non-homogenous and non-spherical.

The position of the meridian was fixed in 1884 by the Airy Transit Circle Telescope, and at that time was defined to pass directly through that device. But then GPS came along, and required a definition based solely on Universal Time (formerly known as Greenwich Mean Time). On a spherical Earth, this wouldn't be a problem. The time at which the Sun is directly overhead is called "noon", and a two dimensional plane orthogonal to the gravitational field of the Earth that passes through the centres of both Earth and Sun at noon UTC is your prime meridian.

But what does "overhead" mean? Well, it's measured by a spirit level or plumb line - 90° from the horizontal is "overhead" (Airy actually used a pool of mercury to obtain his "horizontal" reference. It's nice and dense, so it levels very rapidly and is difficult to perturb; and it's reflective, so you can use it as a mirror in your measuring devices to get really high precision results). But this kind of level is powered by gravity - its output is relative to the local gravitational field. And at Greenwich, you are on the Western edge of Eurasia, and the eastern edge of the Atlantic Ocean. Oceanic crust is denser than continental crust, so the gravitational 'vertical' at Greenwich - the direction a plumb line points - misses the centre of rotation of the Earth by about 102 metres.

The 1984 World Geological Survey, which defined the GPS standards (almost precisely a century after the establishment of Greenwich as the longitudinal baseline), decided that time was more important than space. To keep noon UTC as the time when the Sun is directly overhead at the Greenwich Observatory, they had to define the longitudinal prime meridian as a plane parallel to the measurement plane of the Airy telescope and its successors at Greenwich, but which passes through the geographical centre of the Earth, rather than the gravitational centre.

If you take your GPS device to Greenwich (as I have), you will find that the 0° longitude line misses the Observatory completely, passing to the East of the buildings. The closest point on the line is marked by nothing other than a rubbish bin.

The alternatives would have been to move the UTC time datum 102m in the opposite direction, taking it outside the Observatory to the West; Or allowing "Mean Sea Level" on the Equator at the 90°E and 90°W meridians to be defined as being 102m away from the actual surface of the actual seawater (The waters around Manhattan Island would be about 300ft above GPS sea level in such a scenario). They decided at WGS84 to keep the UTC datum at Greenwich, preserving Greenwich Mean Time, and to keep Mean Sea Level as close as practical to the mean level of the actual sea (GPS sea level nevertheless fails to match actual sea level by a few metres in many places).

My counter-proposal to use a big lathe to reshape the Earth into a perfect sphere, and to place balancing weights to align the centre of gravity with the geographical centre of the now spherical planet, was rejected on budgetary grounds.

… walking on a dead flat, straight road 40 miles from food or water at 3am …

Yeah that’s gonna happen!
You're making an invalid assumption here--namely, that they're heading from civilization to civilization. I have in the past been walking near a highway at night (but not 3am) more than 40 miles from any appreciable civilization. I was walking back about a mile to my car after having spent several miles making a loop through the wilderness. That was neither the first nor the last time I plotted a hike that involved using where a road punched through to make it a loop rather than an out-and-back. I did not intend for it to be after dark but the terrain was rougher than I expected slowing me down. I have likewise followed a riverbed near the road in a place more than 40 miles from any civilization--because I considered it safer than walking along the road at night.

In one case I was parked in an official parking lot, but it's off to the side and the only indication of it's existence is the flatness and the don't-drive-past-this-point barrier at the far end. In the other I was simply parked by the side of the road--the official area to park (there's simply a wider shoulder there, lots of tire marks if you look closely) for where I was. No signs whatsoever anywhere on the "trail" (the only reason you would know it exists is it's listed on the park website with a file containing a GPS trace and a bit of description of what you'll encounter.)

Admittedly, neither myself nor any of my gear is black--but outdoor gear tends to be of colors that won't stand out.
Presumably you’re a human, and would have noticed a single car coming, probably from miles away. If you were determined to try to block both sides of the road you could have made yourself get hit.

I suggest you get out there on that road and tell me how unsafe it is. I’ve heard of people going 140+ getting pulled over by a cop car going 160, and given a warning. (there is no speed limit but unsafe driving is illegal).
I’ve driven it at least a dozen times and have never even seen a State cop out on the straights. Or any wrecks, though I’m sure a lot of people have fallen asleep at the wheel. In most places, even that wouldn’t be a big deal, you’d just go off into the desert flats, and maybe have to pull some brush out of your undercarriage.

Republican Rep. Jon Stone’s New Hampshire law enforcement career ended when he threatened to kill fellow police officers in a shooting spree, and murder his chief after raping the chief’s wife and children, all while he was already under scrutiny for his inappropriate relationship with a teen girl, according to the internal investigation reports finally released this week.

Stone, a twice-elected Republican state representative for Claremont, has been fighting to keep those reports secret for years. Last month, the New Hampshire Supreme Court ruled that Stone could not block their release in response to this reporter’s 2020 right-to-know request, ending years of legal challenges.

Tell me again how bad Kamala Harris is.
