i could be wrong, but whereas before US Presidents tried to foster trust with Russia, until Bush who at least respected it, now the present administration is actively fostering mistrust.

It just seems like a profoundly stupid idea...but what would I know?

Isn't it Russia doing the job of creating mistrust? All American presidents have always been massive dicks. Possibly with the exception of Jimmy Carter. Reagen getting a special prize for being the biggest dick. But none of them is even close to the level of dickishness that Russian/Soviet leaders were. All massive massive cunts.
