Breaking news. Wonder if Republicans will now ger on board with fighting this. Nannnnnh!!!

Staggering. Trump, be aware: You want to get rid of the opposition. Your base will get wise. Do you think anyone goes hunting with Dick Cheney these days?
Cain was co-chair of Black Voices for Trump, a group which probably can't afford to lose even one member. One of his last public statements before he was hospitalized concerned an upcoming Trump rally, I think in S. Dakota. "Masks will not be mandatory for the event...PEOPLE ARE FED UP!"

It is freakishly contagious -- you read about people who got infected after wearing a mask in public and trying to stay distanced. But to do it Herman Cain's way... I have to wonder if his weeks of suffering changed his thinking. The fact that anyone would turn a crucial public health measure into an issue of personal liberty -- that's the height of petulant immaturity and delusion. And we're a country with the most advanced scientific institutions in the world. This Trump cabal should be swept away in about 13 weeks (if we have any luck at all), but at what a cost.

The trouble is there are two types of intelligence, normal everyday intelligence and then tribal intelligence. There are otherwise, really smart people out there for jobs and driving and all sorts of things. But put them in a tribal setting and their brains just become worthless... or they become very good at obfuscation.

And Trump has turned up the tribal stupidity to 11.

Blaming Trump is too easy. This is on the American people. There was never any chance that the US was going to be able to avoid this. There has been a concerted effort since, well, really Jimmy Carter, to demolish any idea of public solidarity. The "left" in the US, with a couple exceptions, is essentially a right-wing party. And the right is an extreme, ideological right-wing party.

People need to be governed. The blame lies with those who have for years said you do not have to be a responsible member of a civil society. That in the name of personal freedoms (and getting your vote), you can act irresponsibly. You can endanger and offend those around you. The immature have been allowed to act out and they are now spoiled children, unwilling whatsoever to play nice with others. For many of us, we do not need to be governed. Any such restrictions will go largely unnoticed or patriotically obliged because we are responsible. It is the actions we would take on our own without any prodding or dutifully upon recommendation. We do care for our neighbors. We are willing to suffer a little for the greater good of society.
 
I'm baffled by anyone who thinks it should be acceptable to shoot someone in the face or gas them with toxic chemicals in order to clear a street - on the grounds, supposedly, of ensuring public safety - but also thinks it should be okay to knowingly enage in spreading about a highly contagious and potentially fatal or permanently disabling virus, supposedly because in that case individual rights and responsibilities trump public safety concerns.
 
In a Young Turks clip on him they included a clip of Cain praising Trump on his pandemic response. They noted there had only been 11 deaths at that point.

i don't want to get too deep in the woods on a bit of a derail here, but... the people you are blaming are the people that were put in power to govern.
in the US you can't rise to power organically or take a position of authority and then impose your will on everyone, you have to be specifically given that role.
the state of the US right now is what 'the people' wanted, either by majority decree or because the majority was too chickenshit to oppose morally wrong actions on the basis of "civility" which, something-something evil, something-something good men, something-something do nothing.
 
"The people", unfortunately, are not the electoral congress. The people's will, as expressed at the polls, was overturned in 2016. An absolutely stupid relic of the Founding Fathers' distrust of the common man.
