How should west respond to Russian invasion of Ukraine?

My point? Hmm.....let me think... uhhhh ... My point is when it comes to human existence and rights compared to the west Russia is a dismal shit hole.
thousands of westerners who moved to Russia disagree with idiots who never travel
'great minds think alike', therefore what a Harvard professor thinks is shared by the majority of 'great minds'?
Yes, it is shared by the majority of great minds - Jeffrey Sachs, Mearsheheimer,..... and me of course.

"When you come to a fork in the road, take it" Yogi Berra

'Of course you know this means war!" Bugs Bunny.

Great American minds and philosophers.

Barbos, you lived and went to school here, but you have no clue about Americans.

Of course it is not uniform, but we grow up lemming to question and criticize. We mock and impugn the pompous in power.

Putin is a deadly dangerous genocidal dictator, but I can not take him seriously. A pompous ass who thinks it is the ancient world and thinks he is a king.

Same with Trump. If he were not so dangerous and destructive he would be a silly comical character,.

So yes, we do have free speech and a free press.

The idea of an afging Soviet communist defending how great the failed Soviet Union was and defending a failing Russia today in some ways is hilarious. But it is serious, Russians are suffering as well as Ukraine.

We will recover from Trump, I do not see Russia recovering from Putinism.

Meanwhile, shooting near recently discovered secret TTsK prison in Kiev. One man is shot by unidetified group of people who started attacking protesters against TTsK.

As true as the "Truth" (Pravda in Russian).

Free press is dead and you idiots are being brainwashed

LOL, so one of the pro-UK radio show talks about this Ukraine business, accepts calls and all (literally all) people are at the very least indifferent.
So they they specifically ask for callers which support Ukraine and ... silence.

So yes, we do have free speech and a free press.
Not as free as you think.
Last time I checked RT was banned in US.
It was never banned. It went broke and couldn't pay it's bills.
It was banned.
Okay, I'll type slowly. I know they came home crying about how big ole mean Murica took their lunch money and broke their glasses, but that's not what happened. Over here, a media company has to pay rent, utilities and payroll. The money for this comes from advertising and subscriptions.
With me, so far?
It turned out all the thousands of Westerners who would watch RT already immigrated to Russia. No subscribers and nobody to see the ads, so RT was short of cash.
Naturally, they call up Putin and ask for help. Putin starts talking about a Russian priest in the middle ages who invented toenail fungus. They are confused, but listen patiently. Eventually Putin hangs up.
They call back and Lavrov Propaganskl answers. He says, "I've got a guy named Barbos who does a better job for much less money. Why do I need you?" Then he hangs up.
So, never banned, just abandoned by their handlers.
I hope this clears things up for you.

I'd forgotten about RT America.

RT America was a U.S.-based news channel headquartered in Washington, D.C. Owned by TV Novosti and operated by production company T&R Productions,[1] it was a part of the RT network, a global multilingual television news network based in Moscow and funded by the Russian government.[2][3][4] The channel said it reached an audience of 85 million people in the United States, but this figure is disputed.[5] It was distributed through select cable providers, over-the-top services, a live stream through its website, and three low-power digital subchannels.[6] Since the channel's closure, viewers who tune into the cable channel or their live stream are being shown a live feed of an RT International broadcast instead.[7][needs update?]

Among the channel's shows at its closure were Dennis Miller + One with Dennis Miller, CrossTalk with Peter Lavelle, and The Keiser Report with Max Keiser. Other shows included News with Ed Schultz (2016–2018) and Larry King Now (2012–2020). Additional personalities included Rick Sanchez, Stacy Herbert, Chris Hedges, Jesse Ventura, Sean Stone, Lee Camp, Mike Papantonio, and Ben Swann.

Incidents centered upon RT America include Breaking the Set host Abby Martin's 2014 statement of her opposition to Russia's intervention in Ukraine,[8] which was followed the next day by anchor Liz Wahl's on-the-air resignation, which she issued on account of her belief that RT was a propaganda machine for President Vladimir Putin.[9] In 2017, David Z. Morris wrote in Fortune that, "according to a[n unnamed] social network analyst interviewed by the New York Times, RT is not simply a platform for a right-wing agenda. Rather, it fuels fringe viewpoints across the political spectrum, providing grist for libertarian, far-left, and anti-globalization factions as well."[10] James Kirchick wrote in the Washington Post that the channel was "not a 'news service' in any meaningful sense of the term".[11]

After losing the majority of its cable and satellite coverage following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the channel ceased operations of all live programming on March 3, 2022, with T&R Productions indicating the layoffs of all off- and on-air staff would be permanent.[12]

Termination

The network was removed from the services offered by DirecTV on March 1, 2022, following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, with Ora Media pausing production on several shows it produced for RT America.[20] Dish Network dropped the channel on March 4.[21]

After losing the majority of its cable and satellite connections, the channel ceased operations of all live programming on March 3, 2022, with T&R Productions indicating the layoffs of all off- and on-air staff would be permanent.[7]

On August 9, 2024, the broadcast and other equipment from the RT studio in Washington DC would be auctioned off.[22][non-primary source needed]

James Kirchick wrote in the Washington Post in September 2017 that "RT is not a 'news service' in any meaningful sense of the term. Reputable news services don't employ Illuminati correspondents. RT has no regard whatsoever for basic journalistic values like objectivity or the pursuit of truth."[11] Kirchick was a guest in August 2013 to talk about Chelsea Manning, and used the opportunity to "speak out against the horrific anti-gay legislation" which had recently been approved by President Putin. The clip went viral on social media.[26]

Ir was not banned by the government the carrier dropped it. We have free speech, but nobdy is required to listen to it or publish its those pesky freedoms we have over here.

Trump tried to slilnce mam stream news media who were critical, but failed.

Two things are required over here, a media market IOW demand, and a way to fund it.

Good old free market capitalism.

If there was a demand and a means to make a profit RTA would be in operation.

China and Russia take advt age of our freedom of speecch while there is no recrprical freedoms in Russia and China.

We should have a law that prevents foreign government operaions from operating here unless we can cooperate there.

Around the USA there are numerous independent listener supported non profit radio stations. One in the Seattle area broadcasts extreme anti American views. It will not be shut down by government, but it has to fund itself.

Main stream news media are punning paid subscriptions. Who would pay for RTA?

A few years ago Scipps News shut down its 24/7 broadcast TV channels because it could nit pay for it, not enough advertisers.

Anyone can set up a cheep Internet site. Teenagers do it. Anther example of recurring Russian incompetence?

Again Barbos, you really do not under understand who and what we are.

Even during the peak of the Cold War there was an above ground open communist party here in the USA. There still is.

We had a city council member who as communist, now she calls herself social democrat.

We carry freedom of speech to an extreme over here in the interest of preserving free speech for all.

It was laughable when China complained their freedom of speech over here was being violated.

Yo Babs! You’re welcome to acquire a broadcast frequency or few, load it/them up with your most compelling bullshit and sell it to gullible Americans.
Your inability to do so profitably, Should tip you off, Babs. The competition in the bullshit market is fierce, and competing with the Trump junta for audience is going to be a heavy lift.
But good luck Babs! One man’s “serious” political theater is another man’s comedic slapstick sight gag. And there are an awful lot of “other men” in ‘Murka.
