When resizing an image, you can hold the shape constant (so the image doesn't distort) by holding a key while you drag the blue square.

I think it's the Control key. But, if that doesn't work, try the shift key.

The default is to maintain the aspect ratio. Drag any single square and it will not distort. No need to hold any key.
