Immigration Issues

1) They're going after blue states, not after the states with the biggest "problem".
They're intervening in states that are actively and intentionally interfering with federal law enforcement, and aiding criminals to break federal law. They don't have to intervene in states that follow the laws and assist federal enforcement.
That’s straight out of the FOX playbook.

I won’t even attempt to do the reprogramming necessary.

But let me tell you this: people I love have been living in a domestic war zone thanks to Trump and a great big bat of xenophobia dressed liberally with lies. I know people who, for months, have been afraid to leave their homes or to send their young children to school without their passports.

The lawless in this situation is ICE and the Trump Administration who are as we speak buying up warehouses for more interment camps. July like the Nazis they admire. Or just like we did for the Japanese during WWII? Or the ‘Indian schools?’.

You should know better. And the fact that you don’t or are just along to ride the waves of white nationalism down the sewer that is Trump’s administration demonstrates just how hopeless a case you are.
It's actually fascinating in a morbid way to watch the radicalization of people I've interacted with for years happen in real time.

Let's start with a very basic premise: Are local law enforcement and local government in sanctuary cities cooperating with federal law with respect to immigration? What is the premise of a sanctuary city in the first place?

Funny how fast the timid Republitroids retreat from the States Rights mantra that served them so well when it was convenient.
Now, even Right Wing Democrats openly advocate for federal supremacy.

Minnesota has always cooperated with immigration as required by law. The invasion of Minnesota and now Maine has absolutely nothing to do with 'sanctuary cities' or 'illegal immigrants.' If illegal immigrants were the issue, there would be much greater ICE focus in Florida, Texas, and much of the rest of the south. Or California, for that matter. No: this is Trump trying to get revenge on Tim Walz for having the nerve to run on a ticket with Kamala Harris ....and very gently make fun of him. The man who daily calls other people, mostly women, stupid, low IQ and other insults cannot take being called 'weird.'

I'm exactly who I've always been. I'm just a bit louder about it now than I used to be because there used to be fewer flagrant reasons to be 'loud.'

I don't find that you are radicalized at all. You've always been pretty much who you are: white is right and it's straight all the way and all that jazz. Oops: should not have said jazz. That music form has its roots in black music. Which leaves out rock and roll as well.

I used to think that respect for and fair enforcement of federal law was something all reasonable people agreed on.
Really? I don't even live in the US, and yet I am aware that there's a significant "States Rights" movement that opposes large parts of federal law as being unconstitutional overreach.

Are all those who argue as such unreasonable, in your view? Or were you genuinely clueless as to their existence?

Regardless, there's also a very large number of people worldwide who feel that excessive respect for the law is dangerous in a democracy, and corrosive to democratic ideals.

And then there's the whole can of worms regarding what constitutes "fair" enforcement. I can assure you that large numbers of very reasonable people hold views on what is fair that differ sharply from yours as expressed in this thread.

Funny how fast the timid Republitroids retreat from the States Rights mantra that served them so well when it was convenient.
Now, even Right Wing Democrats openly advocate for federal supremacy.
States rights have never been allowed to directly contravene federal law.

This is something you've completely made up all by yourself. Ascribing racism to me is a complete and utter fiction of your own invention. It's absolute bullshit.

And the fact that *this* is your go to insult is both absurd and radicalized, Toni.

States have had sovereignty to protect those within their borders from federal abuse and illegal actions.

Sure.

You don’t know me at all. But now you think I’ve become radicalized?

Hunny, I was born this way.

More stupid evil nonsense from the Trump administration. This cruel new rule has Steven Miller written all over it.

The Trump administration will now require people seeking green cards to leave the United States during the application process — a sweeping change that could upend the lives of hundreds of thousands of people seeking the right to legally and permanently live and work in the US.

In a new rule announced Friday, US immigration authorities said green card applicants would have to return to their home countries to apply for permanent visas.

...

The new rule is likely to face legal challenges. Since being announced Friday, it has already faced a torrent of criticism from attorneys, lawmakers and immigration advocates.

Rep. Delia C. Ramirez, an Illinois Democrat, said on X the policy is “beyond cruel” and called for the dismantling of DHS “piece by piece.”

The abrupt policy change stands to affect a large swath of the legal US immigration population, compelling those seeking legal permanent residency to leave the country — separating families, forcing people to leave their jobs and disrupting communities in the process. Applying for a green card is a notoriously arduous process that can take several months to years to complete.

“Trump just made legal immigration harder — on purpose,” Rep. Greg Stanton, an Arizona Democrat, said on X. “America is able to attract the top researchers, doctors, & engineers because of our worker visa programs.”

“Forcing these immigrants to now leave the U.S. before applying for citizenship will deprive us of their innovation, their tax dollars, & their contributions to our economy,” Stanton said.

David J. Bier, the director of immigration studies at the Cato Institute, described the policy as “illogical” in a blog post laying out potential far-reaching and cascading impacts of the rule.

Judge tosses federal charges against Kilmar Abrego Garcia
Washington — A federal judge in Tennessee on Friday tossed out an indictment charging Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Salvadoran man mistakenly deported by the Trump administration last year, with human smuggling.

U.S. District Judge Waverly Crenshaw granted Abrego Garcia's effort to dismiss the criminal charges on the ground that the Justice Department's prosecution was vindictive. Crenshaw had already ruled that the Salvadoran man demonstrated that the prosecution may be vindictive, which left it up to the government to rebut that presumption.

But in his decision, the judge concluded that prosecutors failed to meet that burden, writing "the evidence before this Court sadly reflects an abuse of prosecuting power."

The decision is a massive victory for Abrego Garcia, whose immigration case became a flashpoint in President Trump's sweeping immigration crackdown.

"Justice is a big word and an even bigger promise to fulfill; and I am grateful that today, justice has taken a step forward," he said in a statement following the ruling.
He should apply for the Trump slush fund.

But I used to think that respect for and fair enforcement of federal law was something all reasonable people agreed on.
Untill federal 'law' became unreasonable.
Which part of the federal law with respect to immigration do you feel is unreasonable?
Just about anything Rump does is unreasonable. So 'federal law' no longer commands total respect from reasonable people. Civil Disobediance is now called for.
And where the fuck is this "fair enforcement" you speak of?

1) How do we know the man is "MAGA"? There is no audio, Trump signs or Maga hats that I could see.
2) How do we know the delivery guy is Hispanic? How would the "MAGA guy" know?
3) How do we know the man was ready to call ICE?
5) There is a 3 minute cut in the video between 1:04 and 1:07 when the guy appears. What's up with that?
7) Is it possible the "MAGA guy" didn't know it was a 1am Amazon delivery and assumed it might have been a prowler he heard outside?
8) How do we know the police confirmed the driver was legally delivering packages?
1, 2, 3 = Just making a call to ICE, is strong evidence that you are a MAGAtard.
If you suspect a burgler, sane people call the police, not ICE.
5 = Time to wake-up, find/load his gun, call ICE?
7, 8 = The Amazon jacket and package would be a clue.

I question why Amazon makes deliverys at 1am?
I'm not aware of any deliveries at 1am, but on multiple occasions they have offered me a 4am-8am delivery slot. I can easily see 1am deliveries being a thing--your package is there when you get up, the wider the night delivery time the more such deliveries get made.
I frequently order deliveries for the 4am to 8am slot. Its very convenient for me, as I'm an early riser anyway. There doesn't seem to be deliveries in my area between 11pm and 4pm, AFAIK.

ETA: According to AI (Gemini), Amazon is not even supposed to deliver in the middle of the night, except on very rare occassions. Which makes this whole incident kinda suspicious. Escpecially at the beginning where there is no time stamp when you see the driver delivering.
They do overnight delivery. This is a thing you can simply just Google.

Thanks for letting me know. Can you provide the link from Google that shows Amazon does deliveries between 11pm and 4 am? I'm not having much luck with this. Thanks.

Civil disobedience is hard wired into US history and culture. If not for civil disobedience. There would be no civil rights nor women’s rights, to start with. Native Americans, Black people and women all fought for the right to vote. Women fought for the right to establish credit in their own names, gain admissions to military and institutes of higher learning, not to be raised by their husbands, to have access to birth control and abortion, for starters. These things weren’t handed to us. They were demanded, fought for, died for.

This is not what overnight delivery means.

You can also just check Amazon's delivery options after you put an item in the cart. It's fairly simple. 4 AM-8 AM is an option.
