Here is a big crack in Trump's base support - an evangelical outlet calls for Trump's removal from office
Let’s grant this to the president: The Democrats have had it out for him from day one, and therefore nearly everything they do is under a cloud of partisan suspicion. This has led many to suspect not only motives but facts in these recent impeachment hearings. And, no, Mr. Trump did not have a serious opportunity to offer his side of the story in the House hearings on impeachment.

But the facts in this instance are unambiguous: The president of the United States attempted to use his political power to coerce a foreign leader to harass and discredit one of the president’s political opponents. That is not only a violation of the Constitution; more importantly, it is profoundly immoral.

The reason many are not shocked about this is that this president has dumbed down the idea of morality in his administration. He has hired and fired a number of people who are now convicted criminals. He himself has admitted to immoral actions in business and his relationship with women, about which he remains proud. His Twitter feed alone—with its habitual string of mischaracterizations, lies, and slanders—is a near perfect example of a human being who is morally lost and confused.

Trump’s evangelical supporters have pointed to his Supreme Court nominees, his defense of religious liberty, and his stewardship of the economy, among other things, as achievements that justify their support of the president. We believe the impeachment hearings have made it absolutely clear, in a way the Mueller investigation did not, that President Trump has abused his authority for personal gain and betrayed his constitutional oath. The impeachment hearings have illuminated the president’s moral deficiencies for all to see. This damages the institution of the presidency, damages the reputation of our country, and damages both the spirit and the future of our people. None of the president’s positives can balance the moral and political danger we face under a leader of such grossly immoral character.........

To the many evangelicals who continue to support Mr. Trump in spite of his blackened moral record, we might say this: Remember who you are and whom you serve. Consider how your justification of Mr. Trump influences your witness to your Lord and Savior. Consider what an unbelieving world will say if you continue to brush off Mr. Trump’s immoral words and behavior in the cause of political expediency. If we don’t reverse course now, will anyone take anything we say about justice and righteousness with any seriousness for decades to come? Can we say with a straight face that abortion is a great evil that cannot be tolerated and, with the same straight face, say that the bent and broken character of our nation’s leader doesn’t really matter in the end?

He is at least a few decades late with that warning.

Someone told Bonespurs about this.

A far left magazine, or very “progressive,” as some would call it, which has been doing poorly and hasn’t been involved with the Billy Graham family for many years, Christianity Today, knows nothing about reading a perfect transcript of a routine phone call and would rather.....
....have a Radical Left nonbeliever, who wants to take your religion & your guns, than Donald Trump as your President. No President has done more for the Evangelical community, and it’s not even close. You’ll not get anything from those Dems on stage. I won’t be reading ET again!

I had to check, I was hoping you were trying to out-Jimmy Jimmy. I did like this reply:

yes mister president sir, Christianity Today was wrong to call out the man who cheated on his first wife with his second wife and cheated on his second wife with his third wife and cheated on his third wife with a porn actress and then lied about paying her to shut up. SO UNFAIR

He refers to himself in the third person in the tweet. That is new.

And will he stop referring to his call as "perfect". There is no such thing as a "perfect call"!

Trump's tweets - Wow. Just wow.

And yeah, a little late to stave off that "they will never take us seriously now" effect. You are no lonfger in a position of preserving your integrity. You will have to rebuild it from scratch at this point.
But thanks for finally identifying the bottom of your barrel. Kudos for that and welcome to the air, and good luck in building a new reputation.

I'm not certain how I feel on this.

Pro) The publication woke up, of sorts. In 2016, they published three Op-Eds, one in support of Trump, one in support of Clinton, and one in support of neither.
Con) Saying supporting or not supporting a political entity is a matter of faith bothers me. To say that your religion requires you to hold a specific position is definitely a slippery slope. Granted, religion has been doing this for a while... and no one who is religious should have been able to vote for the anti-Christ... but that was foretold in the New Testament.

Regarding Trump's tweet, he apparently has done more for African Americans, Muslims, Hispanics, Evangelicals, etc... There is not one group he hasn't heralded great praise upon himself for turning around their condition... despite things not being bad in 2016 and most of the changes he has put forth, pretty much not effecting the common person.

Perhaps the most hilarious part of the Tweet is that Trump says he won't ET (sp) again. How do you misspell a two letter acronym? And who in the world believes Trump reads magazines (he is blind as a bat)... forget about Christian life?! Seriously!

How do you know he wasn't talking about Entertainment Tonight?

"ET"?

Up till the Trump call with the Ukrainian President, the most perfect call was ET's phone home.

Good as far it goes. But what kind of moral compass do you have when you didn't reject Trump on his first ride down the escalator? He was already at that point a laughably obvious liar, racist, and philanderer.

I see it as a victory. The de-trumpization of Evangelicalism needs to start somewhere.
My thoughts exactly - better late than never.

It’d read better if the author wasn’t eight days from being out the door (retiring). As per an interview heard on my local PBS (Public Broadcasting Service) station.

That's usually who does. That's why you never hear sitting congresspersons or Senators speaking their mind on the positions they will later claim to have "really" held.

Religious conviction is supposed to go a bit deeper than term limits.
