Impeachment fallout - Christianity Today calls for Trump's removal from office.

I see it as a victory. The de-trumpization of Evangelicalism needs to start somewhere.
My thoughts exactly - better late than never.

It’d read better if the author wasn’t eight days from being out the door (retiring). As per an interview heard on my local PBS (Public Broadcasting Service) station.
I agree. But CT permitted it and it stands under their banner. I think this is significant step in the right direction. One can only hope it is simply the first of many "defections" away from Trump.

First, I recommend getting an extension for your web browser that copies the title and the URL of a link and puts them into BBCode format. Such extensions are available for Firefox, Chrome, and Opera, though I'm not sure about Safari one way or the other. So I'll repeat some links earlier with their page titles as link titles.

Trump Should Be Removed from Office | Christianity Today by Mark Galli: "It’s time to say what we said 20 years ago when a president’s character was revealed for what it was."

Comparing Donald Trump to Bill Clinton. While BC was weaselly about his love affair with Monica Lewinsky, DT is guilty of very serious crimes.

From CT:
The reason many are not shocked about this is that this president has dumbed down the idea of morality in his administration. He has hired and fired a number of people who are now convicted criminals. He himself has admitted to immoral actions in business and his relationship with women, about which he remains proud. His Twitter feed alone—with its habitual string of mischaracterizations, lies, and slanders—is a near perfect example of a human being who is morally lost and confused.
He seems very belligerent and angry. Compare his tweets with some from the "other side":

Donald J. Trump on Twitter: "SUCH ATROCIOUS LIES BY THE RADICAL LEFT, DO NOTHING DEMOCRATS. THIS IS AN ASSAULT ON AMERICA, AND AN ASSAULT ON THE REPUBLICAN PARTY!!!!" / Twitter
with response
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Twitter: "No normal person would be able to get away with attempting to extort a foreign power to compromise our country.
But all too often, the most corrupt and powerful people grow so accustomed to life with impunity that standard accountability feels to them like unjust persecution. https://t.co/mjPF1xZogT" / Twitter

Donald J. Trump on Twitter: "Like it or not, Tlaib and Omar are fast becoming the face of the Democrat Party. Cortez (AOC) is fuming, not happy about this!" / Twitter
with response
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Twitter: "😂 https://t.co/W1q9zzgnN1" / Twitter
(tears-of-laughter emoji)

Or this when AOC defeated 10-term Rep. Joe Crowley:
Donald J. Trump on Twitter: "Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!" / Twitter

I don't have a corresponding tweet from AOC, but there is a scene in "Knock Down The House" where she compares her campaign literature and JC's. Hers identify her, say when to vote for her, and lists a sizable number of her policy positions. JC's she calls a "Victoria's Secret catalog", talking only about being anti-Trump, without even an election date. - Knock Down the House - Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez - YouTube - She didn't want to brag, but she explained very well why her campaign mailers were more informative.

By comparison, Trump brags incessantly and uses lots of superlatives.

ET = Entertainment Tonight, Trump's mistake for CT

I don’t think it was until the impeachment hearings that there was some sort of smoking gun that was just unambiguously clear. The Mueller investigation was so confusing. It was hard to tell what was legal or illegal, moral or immoral. I just don’t know how that world works. But with the impeachment hearings, it became absolutely clear that he tried to use his power as the president to manipulate a foreign leader into getting dirt on his political enemies. That’s unconstitutional, and it’s immoral. So it was kind of a clear moment.

I’ve been thinking, in the last week, whether we should address that. I recalled that in the Clinton era and the Nixon era, when it became absolutely clear about the immoral improprieties of the president, we said that this person is no longer fit for office. That was weighing on me, and I thought maybe it was time for us to do this.
He then makes an analogy with a woman who has a husband that is nasty and violent and abusive to her, but is otherwise a good husband.

As to the prospect of being dismissed by the far right,
At least as long as I’ve been editor in chief, I’ve never imagined that we at Christianity Today speak for all evangelicals. We speak for moderate, center-right, and center-left evangelicals. The far right—they don’t read us. They don’t care what we think. They think we’ve been co-opted by liberalism. So I understand that we do not represent the entire movement. And anyone who thinks that CT does, that’s just not the case.
The right wing believes that *all* news-media outlets that disagree with them are biased against them, so it may be hard to get through to them.

This is so exciting! Trump getting free publicity over the shampeachment and Dems have secured his re-eletion!
Approval rating jumped from 34% to 46% during the shampeachment!

Thank you leftists!!!!

Christianity Today calls for Trump's removal from office - CNNPolitics

Donald J. Trump on Twitter: "A far left magazine, or very “progressive,” as some would call it, which has been doing poorly and hasn’t been involved with the Billy Graham family for many years, Christianity Today, knows nothing about reading a perfect transcript of a routine phone call and would rather....." / Twitter

Donald J. Trump on Twitter: "....have a Radical Left nonbeliever, who wants to take your religion & your guns, than Donald Trump as your President. No President has done more for the Evangelical community, and it’s not even close. You’ll not get anything from those Dems on stage. I won’t be reading ET again!" / Twitter

From CNN:
Jim Wallis, one of the nation's most prominent liberal evangelical leaders, called the op-ed's stance a "huge, watershed event," adding that the magazine is arguably the leading evangelical magazine in the nation.

"What CT is saying in their editorial is removing Donald Trump from office is now a matter of faith, not politics, and I agree," Wallis told CNN.

Wallis, founder of Sojourners magazine, says evangelicals made a "Faustian" bargain with Trump -- appoint the federal judges we want and we will look the other way.

"They have made the Faustian bargain that no matter what he does, it's all acceptable because he gives them the judges he wants," says Wallis, author of "Christ in Crisis: Why We Need to Reclaim Jesus."

Trump criticizes Christian evangelical magazine for impeachment stance - has this tidbit:

Bill Kristol on Twitter: "In light of the Christianity Today edit -- [url]https://t.co/BZEDahRDoR -- and the furious reaction to it by Trump and Trumpworld, which suggests they're worried, @jpitney reminds us of this tweet from when Trump was less politically correct about his religious beliefs or unbeliefs. https://t.co/ryqpmr4wtZ" / Twitter[/url]

Donald J. Trump on Twitter: ""@HarrietBaldwin: @realDonaldTrump @deedeegop What happened to "turn the other cheek?" Sorry, not a believer!" / Twitter - 8:12 AM · May 3, 2013

Where it comes from:
38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ 39 But I say to you, do not resist the evildoer. But whoever strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other to him as well. 40 And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your coat also. 41 And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two. 42 Give to the one who asks you, and do not reject the one who wants to borrow from you.

43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor’ and ‘hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, love your enemy and pray for those who persecute you, 45 so that you may be like your Father in heaven, since he causes the sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Even the tax collectors do the same, don’t they? 47 And if you only greet your brothers, what more do you do? Even the Gentiles do the same, don’t they? 48 So then, be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

According to Gallup (https://news.gallup.com/poll/203198/presidential-approval-ratings-donald-trump.aspxPresident Trump's approval rating has never been as low as 34% since he has been in office and the lowest it has been this calendar year is 37% in January of 2019. The impeachment hearings started on September 24, and the lowest approval rating since then is 39% in early October. So HL's "information" is a bit off.

Back to CNBC, referring to Billy Graham:
Graham’s son Franklin Graham, who is a backer of Trump, said in a Facebook post that his father, who died in February 2018, “would not agree with” Chritianity Today’s opinion piece.

“In fact, would be very disappointed,” Franklin Graham wrote.

“My father knew Donald Trump, he believed in Donald Trump, and he voted for Donald Trump. He believed that Donald J. Trump was the man for this hour in history for our nation,” Franklin wrote.

“For Christianity Today to side with the Democrat Party in a totally partisan attack on the President of the United States is unfathomable.”
Even a lot of Religious-Right types don't sound as unhinged as Trump does.

Angry, belligerent bragging. Does he need a diaper change?

And I love how atheists are now touting the opinion of Evangelicals as Gospel. I thought atheists said evangelicals were dumb and always wrong?

But all of a sudden since the atheists agree with them on this, now the Evangelicals are smart with their opinion!

That is exactly what the Fox News host just said while laughing at the left's hypocrisy.

Truth hurts. Trump's right. The other leftists candidates don't give 2 craps about Christianity or Judaism. They only care about Islam.

Bernie is most likely a self-hating Jew, which can be considered anti-semitic.

I have to agree with President Trump about his last statement. I think one can make a good argument that no President has ever made Evangelicals look more craven and hypocritical.

So Christians aren't allowed to forgive Trump for what he did and move on?

Didn't Jesus advocate forgiveness? Or did he advocate grudges forever?

Enlighten us Christians on how to properly follow Jesus, atheists and leftists!

So, let's see if I got this right. Half-life's argument is that Trump's approval rating isn't as bad as he imagined it to be, but still the worst for an incumbent in recent history and that's a win?

Trump attacks Christianity Today over bruising editorial | TheHill
“To the many evangelicals who continue to support Mr. Trump in spite of his blackened moral record, we might say this: Remember who you are and whom you serve. Consider how your justification of Mr. Trump influences your witness to your Lord and Savior,” Galli wrote. “Consider what an unbelieving world will say if you continue to brush off Mr. Trump’s immoral words and behavior in the cause of political expediency.”

Evangelical Trump supporters bash Christianity Today for calling for removal from office | TheHill

Jerry Falwell on Twitter: "Less than 20% of evangelicals supported @HillaryClinton in 2016 but now @CTmagazine has removed any doubt that they are part of the same 17% or so of liberal evangelicals who have preached social gospel for decades! CT unmasked! https://t.co/O7WjyZSwiW" / Twitter
That's Jerry Falwell, Jr.

"It’s obvious that Christianity Today has moved to the left and is representing the elitist liberal wing of evangelicalism," wrote Franklin Graham, CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and Samaritan's Purse, an evangelical relief organization. Graham accused the magazine of being "used by the left for their political agenda."

A detriment to all life on earth. This guy's more than on the slow-side to only just now realize Trump is a morally vacant piece of shit.

Here you go, Half-Life, a flimflam man wants you to think like this, so do as you're told and think like this:
