Impeachment II thread

The impeachment process is rather complicated.

First, the House must pass articles of impeachment. Essentially an indictment.

Then the Senate must do a trial. This will involve the House selecting impeachment managers to serve as prosecutors.

The first time Trump was impeached, Mitch McConnell saved Trump's hiney by blocking the trial. Will MMC try to save Trump's keister this time around?
If he wasn't going to, he'd have been to the White House already informing Trump to quit while he had time.

Once the impeachment has occurred, Dems can sit on it until well after they have taken control of the Senate before referring the then twice-impeached ex-president to the Senate for conviction.
It won't be pointless - it will deprive the bastard of ever being allowed to run for office again, take away his pension, his travel allowance and possibly even his secret service protection.

Ain't gonna happen. Need 2/3 of both houses to deny him a second run. And can't stop his benefits if he wasn't removed from office. This is all for show.

I'd be careful making predictions.

We're in uncharted Constitutional waters here.

Never before has a loser president attacked his VP, promised to lead a march to the Capitol to steal back the election,
then jumped into a limo to go back to the White House to watch the death and destruction on TV.

Only a simple majority is required in the House of Representatives for impeachment.

He'll be impeached, sure. But nothing beyond that. The longer this goes on, with the ripples of recent big tech censorship against conservatives, the more likely Republicans will close ranks. Trump is gone on 1/20. Enough already.

Fuck your false censorship claims. I've lost count the amount of Republicunts who in that last week have said on FOX, OANN, Newsmax, Twitter, AM radio, editorials in print media, Sky News, Morse Code, semaphores and a shit ton of other media outlets how they are being silenced. The stupid cunts are saying this to a huge audience with a total lack of self awareness. That word, "censorship"? It does not mean what you disingenuously imply it to mean. Twitter telling Trump to fuck off is no different than a bar owner telling a drunk with a long history of stirring up trouble to get out and never come back.

I'd love to take your money.
In 100 days, while waiting to send the passed articles of impeachment to Congress for conviction, the intelligence community and DOJ will start releasing a tidal wave of damning facts currently unknown about what has been going on in the Nazi bunker while Trump had it sealed from all eyes. No more Chinese water torture drip, but a fucking firehose implicating all the politicians who were compromised by Trump. By the time it is brought to a vote in the Senate, they will all be on the spot. Pass the popcorn!

I think/hope you're right. I mean, look at all the asinine Trump moments that have come out already. His call to the Georgia Secy. of State came out so fast it must've made Donald's head bobble. And there are a ton of WH staffers who aren't easily going to find jobs next month who will want to have their say. This era of Republicanism is going to amount to an Everest of raw sewage. I want to live long enough to read through it all.

Reading through the usual right-wing forums I'm seeing them excusing Trump because he did not actually say the words 'go storm the capitol building'. Therefore he cannot have incited violence or insurrection and it all just the usual TDS and extreme left-wing socialist MSN blowing the whole thing out of proportion. This is followed by the usual lukewarm 'condemnation of all violence' and 'Trump says stupid things sometimes', and why didn't the 'leftists' get upset about violence and rioting all summer as it's absolutely the same thing as what happened last week.

Plus the whole idea of the impeachment and the 'silencing of free speech' on social media platforms is a calculated move to anger his supporters more, hoping they will respond with violence so they can shut down innocent conservatives further.

Boo hoo hoo hoo hoo. If it was some online forum where people were talking about killing Republican politicians, I'm sure that right-wingers would eagerly support shutting it down. But instead they call themselves victims and become anti-business. Just like how those pro-cop Capitol attackers turned anti-cop when most of the Capitol cops turned against them.

Thanks for reminding me why I have trausti on ignore.

So, twitter bans people all the time. Is that also censorship? If it is, why aren't the MAGAts out there storming twitter headquarters? The position of the person being banned doesn't define the crime, it either is, or it isn't.

Simply put, Biden and the Democrats were stealing the election so Red Hats stormed the Capitol and stole a podium and some mail. They are idiots!

He must be impeached. If he isn't, it sets a very dangerous precedent for the country.
He needs to be impeached by both parties. With virtually only the Democrats taking a stand it again, it looks like politics. It isn't but the GOP is damned for their reaction to this.

Yeah. He was guilty as hell last time around. Yet, the Republicans came in to support him. Why wouldn't it be a do-over this time? The guy is on the way out, is there any incentive for a Republican senator to turn against Trump now? It's not like Trump truly is a danger to Western civilisation. Since Trump is on the way out it can only be a symbolic gesture. What senator wants to have on the resume that they betrayed a fellow party member?

Actually Trump is enacting policy changes right now to fuck with Biden: Cuba, EPA, transition.

But the GOP won’t impeach. They are either cowards or despots.

You do realise the Republicans who gave unconditional support to the GOP Presidential nominee in 2008 and 2012 aren't in good standing in the Republican Party anymore, right? Four years from now, Trump politicians will have one motherfucker of an albatross hanging around their necks.

You forgot the phenomena of spontaneous conservative amnesia, though, wherein as soon as the latest lightning rod, figurehead, or political whore drops away, the entire party magically starts caring about "fiscal responsibility", and any event referenced from the previous 4 years comes with endless demands for source.
