In light of all the brouhaha about Kavenaugh, why no attention toward the Keith Ellison accusations?

U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison's ex-girlfriend posts medical record alleging abuse

Instead he's cruising to getting elected as attorney general.
The same people apoplectic about having Kavenaugh on SCOTUS are unconcerned about having Ellison as a state's top prosecutor. Why is that? Is it because he is a Democrat? Because he is black? Because he is a Muslim? Or all of the above?

And this allegation is recent, when Ellison was an adult, and alleges an ongoing abuse, and not just a drunken indiscretion at 17 years old 35 years ago.

For the record, most of us don't care about the sexual allegations about K. We care that he has perjured himself at congressional hearings, and that he has massive financial problems which open him to blackmail and bribery, and that his perjury is related to email hacking and contradictory statements on settled law. He. Is. Not. Qualified.

As to Ellison, I think I speak with everyone here even a smidge left of the alt-right when I say this: investigate him and if he is guilty, let him spend the rest of his days with Trump's people (in prison). /thread

Well, Ellison denies it and I heard that this lady once gave $35 to a Republican campaign, so she's clearly a partisan rightwing hack who's making this shit up for political purposes.

Now, obviously I'm not saying that I disbelieve this lying bitch and she certainly deserves the opportunity to present her information about the good and honourable Congressman, so she should be able to present her case to a panel of State Democrats who'll assess whether or not their trusted colleague and friend is guilty of what this partisan hack is unfairly accusing him of. She'll really need to do that by next Monday, though, or retract her statements and let the election go on without her unwarranted mudslinging.

I care quite a bit about Kavanaugh’s attitudes of entitlement and his attitudes toward women and minorities. I care very much about his honesty, his forthrightness and his integrity. I care whether he still has a problem abusing alcohol or other substances. I care about whether (another) Supreme Court Justice with a lifetime appointment will be making decisions that affect this nation and her people for generations to come.

I’ve never been much of a fan of Ellison. Minnesota does not need someone without good mental health, good judgement and a thorough and deeply felt respect for all people in any high office.

Please tell me this is almost word-for-word what the alt-right posters here responded with when DF delivered the allegations against K. You may need to add /s

It was a drunken assault, not indiscretion. It wasn’t tping the principal’s house. It was sexual assault.

You realize you are playing into the alt-right dialogue on the subject when you place a stale sex scandal before real and substantive allegations of perjury, financial susceptibility, and hacking/fraud.

More Dreary Derec Drivel...that's why he's on ignore. No one claimed that Democratic politicians (or dems in general) have never committed abuse. Look at what happened to Al Franken for something much less offensive than Kavanaugh is accused of.

If Ellison did do this, he should be investigated by the FBI and if found guilty should be stripped of public office, and maybe jailed. Just like Kavanaugh.

Nice try Derec....well not actually nice - it failed....put the footgun back in the closet.

But when all of those things bring nothing more than an unconcerned shrug, you've got to go with what you have. It would be nice to have an honest and open debate about important and relevant issues, but the debate is taking place in America, so that's not an option.

It's like how none of the shit that Roy Moore did over his long career of criminality and horror brought a reaction, but his scamming on some high school chicks a few decades ago had everyone set him on fire. It would be nice if that stuff was 50th on the list of people's problems with him but when it's not, you emphasize what gets results.

And yes, my post above was a tongue in cheek mockery of the GOP position on Kavanagh. Ellison's accuser needs to be taken seriously and all the information about it needs to be made public and credibly answered before the election. If Ellison cannot do that, he needs to withdraw from the nomination even if that ends up meaning that the GOP candidate wins by default since he's unopposed.

Yes, it is unbelievable that people are trying to excuse the behavior, assume the account is true.

A teenage boy drunkenly trying to kiss a girl (and stopping when she tells him to stop) could be called a drunken indiscretion. A pair of boys pushing a girl into a room, forcibly trying to remove her clothes despite her resistance, and even covering her mouth when she starts to scream is plain attempted rape, and shows a fundamental depravity in the heart of that boy.

Let me put it this way, I could trust the first boy, especially as an adult. The second would be impossible to ever really trust.

I've got to say, I give credit to Ben Shapiro for at least admitting that this behavior would be immediately disqualifying if it happened as alleged. Dennis Prager, in his defense of this behavior, shows how morally bankrupt he is as a human being.

Is there enough time for the President to drop the mination, nominate somebody else, and get that other person confirmed before the Democrats could take over in the election.

Anybody else disgusted with how these judges get appointed not by credentials but by partisanship?

I as I understand it, KE's ex is a nutcase and has been harassing him for years. She claimed to have a video of him dragging her off of a bed. When asked to produce the video, she said she couldn't find it. When he took up with another woman after he broke with nutty ex GF, she started harassing the new woman. Hell, even his ex wife vouched for him, saying he would never abuse a woman.

Yes, but it's important to not jump directly into the character assassin phase and start calling the accusers nutcases and liars.

I find it disgusting - on both sides - that there is open talk of selecting judges for their biases. The idea of "blind justice" seems to be well and truly dead. This is a powerful argument against politicians ever being allowed to appoint judicial positions.

It really is a shitty way to pick judges ... unless my side gets in control, in which case forget I said that.

I'm really not sure how one can separate out Roy Moore's 'scamming' as you call it but let's be honest: sexual assault of high school aged girls from other terrible behavior.

Aren't all female exes nutcases? I can scarcely think of one that hasn't been referred to that way.

And let's be clear: it was Karen Monahan's adult son who made the first allegation and who claimed to have video.

And there's this:

I don't separate it out, but the rulings he made from the bench caused a hell of a lot more damage over a much longer period of time and it would be nice if people thought that defrauding people and abusing his position to enrich himself was the type of thing they should be against. They weren't, however, so he got far enough along in the process for the sexual assault allegations to even surface. In a non-crazy place, he should have been gone due to the actions he took in his professional life long before he became prominent enough for people to start looking into his personal life. That didn't happen, though.

Same with Kavanagh. What he's done on the job should be what disqualifies him. It doesn't, however, so decades old allegations of what he did as a teenager are what will do it ... hopefully.
