January 6 Hearings Live

Trump's company charged Secret Service 'exorbitant' hotel rates to protect the first family, House committee report says | CNN Politics
The Trump Organization charged the Secret Service “exorbitant rates” – upwards of $1.4 million over four years – to protect the former President and his family at properties they owned, according to documents released by the House Oversight Committee on Monday.

The committee found that the Trump Organization charged the Secret Service “excessive nightly rates on dozens of trips” as high as $1,185 per night despite claims by the former President’s company that federal employees traveling with him would stay at those properties “for free” or “at cost.”

“The exorbitant rates charged to the Secret Service and agents’ frequent stays at Trump-owned properties raise significant concerns about the former President’s self-dealing and may have resulted in a taxpayer-funded windfall for former President Trump’s struggling businesses,” the panel’s chairwoman, New York Democratic Rep. Carolyn Maloney, wrote in a letter to the service’s director on Monday.
What a sleaze. Trump bragged when campaigning back in 2016 that his wealth would make him incorruptible. But he was shamelessly on the take even there.

Hm, wait... How do they decide that prices, jobs and immigration ARE the top issues and then decide which political party is "disconnected" for having different top issues? What kind of questions did they ask to get those results?

By wagging the dog: what issues can they point at, so as to look-squirrel and gain power.

The issues on the left, on the other hand, have been the same issues day in and day out.

Today on "Dubm Americans" (links to polling referenced by Oleg).
  • 55% of Americans blame Biden for inflation – including 42% of Democrats.
    • Inflation jump occurred before he took office
  • 58% are not confident in the Biden administration's ability to keep inflation at bay.
    • BUT...
  • Americans are worried about the Fed: 74% think the Fed will cause a recession.
    • The recession would be from higher interest rates, to reduce inflation
  • 84% of voters think the US is in a recession now or will be in one by next year.
    • Meanwhile, the economy adds 250+ jobs a month and people are still quitting their jobs meaning they don't fear not being able to find another, indicating our economy is in a weird place at the moment... but not in a recession.
It is funny... Americans link Republicans with being hard on crime, but then seem to think Dems care too much about January 6th riot. ?! I guess it is a political protest if white people do it, a #BLM riot when black people do it.

Curious, what this is doing in this thread though. Certainly, that poll seems bad for the Dems, as the pollers write-off significance of abortion ruling... which I think is a very bad idea to wave off. Pregnancy didn't stop being an issue a month after Dobbs.

As I'd like to see a Red Wave this November, it'd be great if the Dems keep obsessing over the InSuRECtiOn.

...and health care, Medicare spending, infrastructure...

Trump didn't even sign an infrastructure bill. Or health care reform bill. Biden managed both in 2 years.

So you want sick people to be dead people, old people to be on their own, to have to pay rent on roads, extortion rates on electricity and water.

Pretty certain DeSantis would try to repeal that aforementioned Democrat passed legislation. But what ev's. Need to stop derailing.

Oh noes... the Democrats care too much about that mob Trump put together that forced the evacuation of Congress.

Your response to the spending listed was a complaint. You did not specify which spending here you were complaining about so the default assumption is "all of them".

If we do not spend money on health care, we get sick people. If we do not spend money on Medicare, we get old people on their own financially. If we don't spend money on infrastructure, it goes to private interests who in your libertarian fappyland find whatever rate the market will bare and then charge at every port for every resource as greedily as they may, efficiently draining resources and leverage towards self determination to their private interests.

If you wish to put the straw to it, then I suggest you discuss your actual position, if it is not the apparent one.

Funny how folks think crime and inflation are more important that all of that. Selfish bastards.

When you can actually defend against peer review the claim that "crime and inflation" are currently problems, get back to me.

As stated, the dollar is stable in global markets.

You and your ilk crowing about it loudly doesn't make it true that it is really a problem, just that you crowed about it loud enough that everyone started looking at it and thinking about it as a result.

It's a look-squirrel that is somehow born whenever a Democrat is in office.

Personally I think crime is up because we had a criminal in the white house normalizing criminality, and a GOP looking to be "The Boss", ala Putin's Oligarchy.

According to Mediaite, Bannon pleaded with the court to give him probation after he previously owed to fight the contempt charges and turn the case into “the misdemeanor from hell.” In their sentencing memo, federal prosecutors Federal said Bannon had repeatedly threatened outside the courtroom that he was going to “go medieval” on his opponents and compared the proceedings to a “Moscow show trial of the 1930s.”

But now that he’s facing actual jail time Bannon is pleading for leniency.

“Should a person who has spent a lifetime listening to experts – as a naval officer, investment banker, corporate executive, and Presidential advisor – be jailed for relying on the advice of his lawyers?” Bannon told the judge, apparently blaming his lawyers for his predicament.

Yes. Get more honest lawyers, and maybe vet that info for yourself. Are you supposed to be an advisor, or an advisee?

Bannon is citing four occupations that require a person to evaluate information and make executive decisions in his attempt to portray himself as a mindless follower.

Yeah, wealth doesn't make people incorruptible, it just makes their corruption inexcusable.
