So Carlson did exactly what he accused news sites doing. He cherrypicked the video clips to find those where people were not shouting obscenities, breaking windows, chanting threats, stealing mementos, threatening and beating police, etc. Then he called what the media showed "lies", even though he didn't deny that that footage was real. He didn't call his video segments "lies", because the people in them weren't committing mayhem. The images of people acting calmly were supposed to cancel out those of depicting truly awful violence. They were merely "tourists" visiting their Capitol building and being escorted on tours by their allies, the Capitol police.
If a crowd showed up at his house and smashed their way inside, threatening him and his family, it is possible that at least some of them would be milling around inside afterwards, picking at some of his stuff but not smearing poop on the walls, gawking and taking selfies, and just relaxing on his furniture after the break-in. Videos of all the non-violent behavior could then be used to prove that only a small minority of the trespassers ought to be punished for the break-in. The rest were just tourists. Fox News, of course, would try to portray them all as evil, violent rioters, but the mainstream media could talk a calmer, more objective view of the matter.
