Capitol riots mark launch of new extremist movement: experts | The Kansas City Star
The deadly insurrection at the nation’s Capitol marks the start of a new era of violent extremism and should serve as a wakeup call to those who have ignored the warnings, some experts say.

“It’s an absolutely new ballgame,” said Devin Burghart, executive director of the Institute for Research and Education on Human Rights, which has tracked far-right activity for decades. “What was on display Wednesday in many respects is the beginning of a new movement, not the end of an old one.”

The nation’s response, he said, will determine whether the movement takes hold.

Pro-Trump riot on Capitol Hill was even worse than it looked on live TV - CNN
News outlets are publishing more and more videos, photos and testimonials from Wednesday's pro-Trump riot on Capitol Hill. And it's becoming clear that as heinous as the attack looked in real time, on live TV and in our social feeds, it was even worse than we knew then.
It was even more violent. It was even more treacherous. And Trump's behavior was even more disturbing.

Only later did it become clear that lawmakers feared for their lives; that some of the attackers were hunting for congressional leaders; that there could have been a massacre.
On Wednesday "the images broadcast were largely not the most horrifying ones of the day," MSNBC's Chris Hayes said Friday night. "Much of what we saw — silly costumes, people taking selfies, grabbing the speaker's lectern — looked like of kind a group that might even attend a Trump boat parade. But there was something way, way darker, more violent, more sinister, and more organized happening in that Capitol on Wednesday. And it's time we see it clearly."

...
The fuller videos that came out on Thursday and Friday provided much more detail. The Daily podcast from The New York Times played audio clips of rioters chanting "Where's Mike Pence? Where's Mike Pence? Where is Mike Pence? Find Mike Pence."

...
As for the president and his behavior, CNN's Sunlen Serfaty, Devan Cole and Alex Rogers revealed on Friday that Trump "tried to call senators" and pressure them to overturn the election even as the riot was raging.

..
Something else that was even worse than we knew at the time: The attacks against members of the media. Erin Schaff of The New York Times later described what happened when the mob saw her Times ID. "They threw me to the floor, trying to take my cameras. I started screaming for help as loudly as I could," she said. "No one came. People just watched. At this point, I thought I could be killed and no one would stop them. They ripped one of my cameras away from me, broke a lens on the other and ran away." She fled and found a place to hide.
Seems like they would have lynched Mike Pence if they could.

Inside the House chamber as the Capitol was overrun by an angry mob - "NBC News congressional reporter Haley Talbot was inside when the violence and chaos started."
I started my pool note, intended to add color and context to everyone’s reporting, and made up of moments that are not captured by C-Span's cameras. Typically it’s a combination of who was refusing to put on their mask, who’s participating in a standing ovation, which members are huddled in the back chatting, maybe even a quick reference to a member caught snoozing during the extended proceedings.
He then recounted how safe the House chamber seemed at first, then the attackers breaking into the Capitol rotunda, then their heading for the chamber itself.

The reporter was evacuated along with the Congresspeople and some other reporters, going downstairs to a secure location. The reporters weren't allowed in the room where the Congresspeople went, but Rep. Abigail Spanberger tried to help them find safety. They did so in Rep. Ruben Gallego's office. He's D-NM.

Later that day, it was back to work, and the reporters picked up what they had left behind in the House chamber.

The video coverage which is starting to come out erases any doubt about how nuts the attackers were. This was a mob feeding on its own floodtide of id. The footage of them smashing a door open (just before the woman got shot) is a scene of a bunch of ignorant maniacs trying to one-up each other. They would have murdered any anti-Trump legislators, if they could. This, hopefully, is like the little stand of trees near Cemetery Ridge at Gettysburg: the high-water mark of Trumpism.

What would happen to our country if they had happened to kill a Congressman, say Pelosi? Or any democrat? That’s all just one. Would we be at civil war? Would there be at least violent vengeance against certain Republicans?

Or would we just say, too bad, so sad, what’s on the TV?

Well, recall that the war went on for almost two bloody years after Gettysburg. This is not the end. It’s the beginning of a dark chapter in our history. I think we are on the verge of a new civil war. Different from the previous one, Maybe not actual armies, but darker in many ways.

Ultimately I blame the Supreme Court. For decades now they have gutted the rights of ordinary people in favor of corporations and the uber wealthy. The anger is finally boiling over. Trump tapped into that. He won’t be the last.

Black Capitol Police Officers Describe The Racism They Faced
Two Black officers told BuzzFeed News that their chief and other upper management left them totally unprepared and were nowhere to be found on the day.

“I found out what they were planning when a friend of mine screenshot me an Instagram story from the Proud Boys saying, ‘We’re breaching the capitol today, guys. I hope y’all ready.’” The officer, who asked to remain anonymous out of fear of retaliation from his superiors, told BuzzFeed News that it was just a sign of the chaos that was to come, which saw officers regularly finding themselves unprepared and then outmanned and overpowered by the mob.
The Capitol attackers talked about their plans a lot, violating a central rule of military planning and criminal conspiracies: secrecy.

I remember during the Gulf War some reporter asked Gen. Colin Powell how his troops were to take on the Iraqi armies. He responded in very general terms, like "We're going to kill it". What he should have said is that we won't reveal how we're going to do it, because we want our targets to find out only when it's too late for them.

Part of military secrecy is cryptography, for sending messages while trying to ensure that only their intended recipients can read them. Cryptography goes all the way back to Julius Caesar, and over the last century, armed forces have heavily invested in in, both in encoding and in decoding. With the rise of computers, civilian cryptography has become a big business, and cryptography is used in a lot of Internet applications. US civilian cryptography was hampered for some time by export laws that classify cryptographic systems as munitions, but that was eventually relaxed.

Back to the article.
BuzzFeed News spoke to two Black officers who described a harrowing day in which they were forced to endure racist abuse — including repeatedly being called the n-word — as they tried to do their job of protecting the Capitol building, and by extension the very functioning of American democracy. The officers said they were wrong footed, fighting off an invading force that their managers had downplayed, and not prepared them for. ...

While some of the images from that day appeared to show officers standing by to let the mob into the Capitol building, the veteran officer said that they had fought them off for two hours before the attackers eventually gained access. The officer said that many of the widely spread images of smiling marauders, wandering the halls dressed in absurd costumes, had the effect of downplaying how well prepared some of the rioters were to overtake the building, and even to capture and kill Congress members.

“That was a heavily trained group of militia terrorists that attacked us,” said the officer, who has been with the department for more than a decade. “They had radios, we found them, they had two-way communicators and earpieces. They had bear spray. They had flash bangs ... They were prepared. They strategically put two IEDs, pipe bombs in two different locations. These guys were military trained. A lot of them were former military,” the veteran said, referring to two suspected pipe bombs that were found outside the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee and the Republican National Committee.

Some of the cops did try to do their jobs, but they were overpowered by the attackers. Some of the attackers had Blue Lives Matter flags, and some of them were themselves cops.
“There’s quite a big difference when the Black Lives Matter protests come up to the capitol,” he said. “[On Wednesday], some officers were catering to the rioters.”

He said that what upset him the most was when he later saw images of a white colleague taking a selfie with the attackers, seeming to enjoy his time with the insurrectionists who were roaming the US Capitol with confederate flags and other symbols of white supremacy.
The fifth columnists among their fellow cops.
“That one hurt me the most because I was on the other side of the Capitol getting my ass kicked,” he said.

He is certain that if a group of Black Americans had stormed the Capitol they wouldn’t have gotten that kind of friendly reception from his white colleagues.

“If you’re going to treat a group of demonstrators for Black Lives Matters one way, then you should treat this group the same god damn way. With this group you were being kind and nice and letting them walk back out. Some of them got arrested but a lot of them didn’t. Everyone who came into that Capitol should have been arrested regardless if they didn’t take anything.”

...
And instead of being honored by the supporters of a man who likes to call himself the “law and order” president, Black Capitol officers found themselves under attack.

“I got called a nigger 15 times today,” the veteran officer shouted in the rotunda to no one in particular. “Trump did this and we got all of these fucking people in our department that voted for him. How the fuck can you support him?”

“I cried for about 15 minutes and I just let it out.”

Boo hoo hoo hoo hoo. I thought that they believe in capitalism.
Apple will be banning Parler until we give up free speech, institute broad and invasive policies like Twitter and Facebook and we become a surveillance platform by pursuing guilt of those who use Parler before innocence.

They claim it is due to violence on the platform. The community disagrees as we hit number 1 on their store today. The same day "Hang Mike Pence", a disgusting violent suggestion, was trending nationally on Twitter. Displaying the horrible double standard Apple and their big tech pack apply to the community.

Apple, a software monopoly, provides no alternatives to installing apps on your phone other then their store. We do not own our phones, Apple simply rents them to us. Apple, Google and the rest of the anti-competitive pack of big tech tyrants coordinate their moves and work together to stifle competition in the marketplace.

More details about our next plans coming soon as we have many options.
But these are people who claim that they love capitalism.

Opinion: After heinous assault, time to reckon with reality
Tear gas had been deployed after violent protestors stormed the rotunda, but as we took cover under bulletproof chairs I assured my colleague we would be fine. After all, there had been incidents in the past, but Capitol Police had maintained control over the seat of our democracy since 1814.

The mob then rushed the barricaded doors to the chamber, trying to break them down. The illusion of security, of the sanctity of our constitutional order, collapsed. With guns drawn, police ordered us to evacuate, leading to chaos as we fled down corridors and into the tunnels beneath Capitol Hill. Several times our group of lawmakers found ourselves alone, with no police escort, fearful of what threats might lie around the next corner.

We eventually took shelter in a committee hearing room, coming to grips with the appalling assault on our democracy we had suffered first-hand. Some rioters were armed, and at least one carried flex-cuffs to take hostages. Pipe bombs were discovered and neutralized. Outside the Capitol, a gallows with a noose for our necks had been assembled. It was clear Capitol Police had underestimated the threat, but they were not alone.

Or would we just say, too bad, so sad, what’s on the TV?

One week ago, any conservative in the country would have told you that killing a cop is an unpardonable offense: straight to the electric chair, vigilante justice acceptable if the courts take too long. Now they are talking about "healing the nation" instead of prosecuting conspiracy.to murder. You really think it would be different if it was a Democratic politician who died? I don't know if it would be "Civil War" but it certainly wouldn't calm things down, because the core of Trump's support would still be committed, even emboldened, in their attempts to overthrow the govenrment. The 17th of January is going to be bloody, no matter what anyone does. Not because Democrats will have had enough and taken to the streets in arms, but because the seditionists don't care what Democrats do; they want them silenced or exterminated either way.

You’re probably right about the seventeenth, or the twentieth. I don’t think we need healing and conciliation right now. I am angry. Livid in fact. Prosecutions must be certain swift and severe. I hope Trump doesn’t resign so he can’t be pardoned. Or I hope Pence conveniently decides to forget to do so. Cruz and Hawley must resign. Mo Brooks as well and many other representatives, including the one who cited Hitler to rouse up the crowd. I really think the Republican Party should disband. We need a conservative opposition, but after this, I’m just not sure what form that should take. This insurrection can be laid at their doorstep. Oh and Rush Limbaugh’s cancer needs to get busy!

Maybe it has to do with this from Wapo.

Inside the Capitol siege: How barricaded lawmakers and aides sounded urgent pleas for help as police lost control - The Washington Post

Outside on the west side of the building, a handful of Capitol police officers had been backed into a corner, under the scaffolding holding up the inaugural stage. One was pulled down a set of stairs and then beaten and kicked while he tried to cover his head, according to footage of the incident.

Atop the stairs, another had his helmet ripped off as he tried to hold up the last remaining metal barrier before the crowd could flood into the building. A person in the mob sprayed something at an officer. Another lifted a hammer above his head as if preparing to throw it, and then instead began striking at the barrier, where officers were holding it with their hands.

Notice his sweatshirt. Trust the plan. It refers to the fact that Q’s predictions have turned out to be false over and over again, most recently the re-election of Donald Trump. But don’t despair, just “trust the plan.” Q will triumph in the end.

Well, OK, dude! Trust the fucking plan while you stew in jail and lose your right to bear arms. All of these people should be prosecuted for felonies so they lose theIr gun rights. That’s the plan.

I'm not good at internet stuff.

So I'll ask.

Can someone juxtapose the video of cops opening the gates with this one?
Tom

This guy was running from them not helping them. I haven't seen any real proof of cops helping them. The gate opening could just be because they didn't want to be overrun, they were vastly outnumbered. There is abundant evidence of oops putting themselves at risk to keep them out.
