Kanye is an idiot. If you listen to the interviews he's comparing the Holocaust to black abortion rates to argue that there is a black Holocaust going on right now. People are making a major deal out of Kanye's comments for the wrong reason for example Steve claiming blacks can be oppressive. While individual black people can be oppressive using Kanye's argument as a case in point for it is racist as fuck. Kanye's argument to put it simply is a stupid one. You don't need to bring the holocaust into the discussion of abortion rates amongst blacks. Those numbers speak for themselves. He's also a Christian that is anti abortion and has the usual Christian arguments against it. Nothing special about Kanye, and to claim black folks are going to collectively rally around this guy is silly (and racist). We have our own individual opinions of this guy just like any other race. If anything you may as well say a whole bunch of white people will rally around Kanye because that's the demographic he makes the most money from.
I have heard abortion called a holocaust for black people (or people), usually by people who consider themselves devout Christian. That's not new, although West is the first time I can remember someone of his celebrity specifically saying this in public. I mostly agree with what you wrote however, it seems that you are not addressing the fact that West has enormous influence--not specifically or only among (some) black people but among some people of many different skin colors/backgrounds. If I were to say the things that West has been saying, nobody would notice. At. All. Just as people were outraged at some of the horrific things that Donald Trump said as POTUS, what made it so outrageous was that he was a person of power and influence. West and Trump both have used their positions/platforms to say horrific things about groups of people.
Many people in many positions have a lot of power and influence via their platform/audience: teachers, preachers, famous people, politicians. The right wing is extremely upset that some teachers may teach something in their classrooms that some parent(s) or community members or someone with a lot of time on their hands and a keyboard and internet connection objects to.
The unfortunate thing is that antisemitism has been increasing and West's remarks seem to be connected with an uptick in the number of incidents. This is every bit as reprehensible as Trump's remarks about Mexicans being rapists or criminals, that police should engage in casual brutality, etc.
I don't believe that when Trump or West or JK Rowlings or anybody else expresses callous sentiments directed towards any demographic that it causes an increase in hatred or bigotry. I do think that it gives permission for some people to express such sentiments and in louder, more crass and even physical ways.
My personal opinion of West, based on the small amount I have read/heard about him lately: He is in serious need of some serious mental health help. Urgently. That doesn't make him evil or terrible or bad but he does seem to have gone off the rail in some respects. He's enormously talented--it would be terrible for his legacy to be wiped out by recent behavior.
