Split Legalized Prostitution split from GOP: The party of idiots

To notify a split thread.
My question really is WHY are brothels necessary? Obviously there is a ton of prostitution that occurs outside de of brothels. What is the advantage—to the sex workers—of a brothel?
I wouldn't say necessary. But I would say it provides a larger customer base. Probably far greater than trying to go it alone. Probably safer too. I can't imagine a brothel not having a bouncer on site at all times.
I’ve never been to Nevada or Vegas but my understanding ( and I believe noted by someone else in this thread) is that there is a lot of prostitution, fairly openly in Vegas, even if it’s illegal. I am pretty certain that Vegas is an ideal set up for prostitution: What happens in Vegas, after all.

Safety? Maybe. Also a LOT of control over the workers.
I've been to Nevada but only to pass through. So I have no first hand knowledge of the brothel/independent sex work situation there. I would say the chance of arrest and prosecution of independents is a plus to working in legal brothels.

And I've never worked anywhere where I wasn't under a lot of control by my employer. Employee/contractor being controlled by the employer doesn't necessarily mean bad as you are implying it is.
Up thread I linked an article detailing allegations by a sex worker in a law suit she’s bringing. I’ve often but not always worked in highly regulated environments as well. This is an entirely different level of control.

Why do you think that adult sex workers are incapable of making their own choices, based on whatever they think is in their own best interests?

I don’t think that. But apparently those who run brothels prefer a system where the brothel owners control the lives of the sex workers.

And people here are basically telling me that the sex workers are better under the control of brothel operators.

Which seems at odds with people saying that sex workers should be in control over their lives. I think they should as well. I just don’t think it’s anywhere close to a benign system nor as voluntary as some are asserting.

Apparently the State of Nevada prefers such a system.

Presumably with at least some input from brothel owners; Perhaps with some input from prostitutes themselves; and almost certainly with a LOT of input from busybody churchy types who would rather retain prohibition, but will settle for a barely workable model whose flaws they can use for propaganda, if prohibition is not achievable.

Legality.

And most of those cater to those passing through, not locals. Having a recognized brothel is a big advantage.
How is it a big advantage? I understand it’s an advantage to the customers and those who own/ operate the brothel. I care much more about the welfare of the sex workers, which you seem to totally ignore.
ZiprHead understood--economy of scale. It's the fundamental issue with a lot of businesses: the job needs an X but one worker doesn't need a whole X. Group several workers with one X and the output per worker goes up. X in this case being promotion, bouncer etc, as well as being more attractive to the customer because there will be a variety of women to choose from. The customer is going to get a better experience from a brothel and thus would generally choose them over an independent. That's why an awful lot of skilled services work in a group setting even though the actual work is always one-on-one.

My understanding (no first hand experience, it is completely not my thing) is that there are higher-end independents working in the tourist areas. However, the organizations provide a lot of safety to their workers in the form of very quickly circulating any address that was a police sting. The police have to go to all the work of setting up a sting and they can spring it only once. The result is in the absence of trouble the police don't try.

Independents have no such protection and streetwalkers certainly have no such protection. The police do go after the streetwalkers, although I do not know to what degree.

And you didn't respond when I pointed out that some of her allegations were simply the brothel owners obeying the law. I don't put much credence in someone who sues because the law was followed.
