Guess the race of the man. Go on, guess!

Granted, the plural of anecdote is not data. This just illustrates what is in the data.

  • Police brutality in general is on the rise and has been on the rise for a long time. Police deaths at the hands of citizens is at a twenty year low, while citizen deaths at the hands of cops is at a forty year high in America.
  • Police brutality affects poor people more than it does middle class people, which in turn is more affected by this than rich people.
  • Police brutality affects African-Americans more than it does white people.

So yes, you can find incidents in which innocent, unarmed, non-resisting white people were murdered by police. The point is that on average the police and the public respond very differently based on the race of citizens who interact with the police, and that is precisely the problem that is illustrated here.

Clearly, the officers in Louisville did not fear for their life. Perhaps they could go on tour around the country and teach their fellow officers how to react a bit better.

The article at least told the truth even though they still pretend the situation is similar. You omitted a critical detail.

Walters pointed an air rifle at the cops, fired it and shattered the glass on the front door of his house

Note "air rifle".

The cops knew it wasn't a real gun.

Hey, he could have used that air rifle as a club and beaten them all to death. The police were out of line putting their fellow officers at risk by not shooting him fifty times as an opening move.

They confuse mobile phones, hands and other things for guns all the time.

They didn;'t know that when he pointed and fired. Nor would they necessarily know from the shattered glass. Given the police shoot people holding BB guns ( Shooting_of_John_Crawford_III) and other toy guns (Tamir Rice) that are not pointed at them nor fired, your explanation is less than convincing.

What was Loren's opinion on the shooting of Daniel Shriver who was white and unarmed?

Was the Parkland School Officer praised for not shooting Cruz when he was in the school or at least trying?

I remember when Dylan Roof was taken in, you couldn't tell if the cops were detaining a person that murdered several people in a church... or going out to lunch.

Almost all cop violence is okay to LP. Only the most egregious oversteps of force are spoken out against by Loren.

You have justified firing on people with rocks!

Of course, there's no way he could have had any other guns, so it was safe to approach, as he was harmless.

He must not have pointed his cell phone at the cops. That is what really scares them.

You mean, the same kind of object that got John Crawford III killed even though he never even shot it or pointed it at anyone? The same kind of object that you and Derec and all the usual suspects insisted police could NOT tell the difference between that and a real gun?

THAT "critical detail" that you and Derec insisted didn't matter when a black man was killed by police?

Lucky for him it wasn't a cell phone or a squirt gun. He'd be dead for sure.

And it's not bloody likely they knew it was an air gun. What they knew about him was that he was white.

Clearly, the officers in Louisville did not fear for their life. Perhaps they could go on tour around the country and teach their fellow officers how to react a bit better.

Indeed.

"Hey, look, guys! It's possible to do our jobs without murdering citizens. Isn't that amazing?"

Isn't it amazing how they poor are able to tell that that is not a real gun when it's held by a white man?

Gosh, do you suppose that there is a possible explanation for that?

Phones look like guns. Air rifles? Not so much.

I seriously need to know if you're a fan of either Keith and the Girl, or The Black Guy who Tips...

Yeah, police can often capture this sort of person alive, as long as they don't lose their minds and blast away in a panic.

I don't know who either of those people are. Sorry.

And yes, police are more likely to capture a deranged, resisting, armed white citizen alive, but not an unarmed, compliant African-American citizen. That's kind of the problem.

I'll change that up... the air rifle didn't look much like a phone, so he was safe.

Once again you fail to see the obvious.

When it's not fired the cops don't know if it's real or not and will treat it as real.

However, in this case he fired it. Now they know it's not real.

I don't know why he wasn't shot as he brought it up and fired, perhaps they didn't already have their guns out.

Another person who doesn't get it.

Weapons will be assumed real until proven not real. Firing a air rifle/BB gun/Airsoft gun will reveal it's not real. Now the cops will know they are not facing a lethal threat and will respond very differently than when faced with something which seems real.
